Chapter 2

I didnt bother trying to hide the click clack of my heels as I walked down the school hall. I knew

Mrs.Pelion would find me somehow anyway. Anyone who broke the rules in this school nevergot awaywith it thanks to her. Detention was always full of people who werent even that bad. It wasnt like

theyd spray painted the walls or even cheated on a test or something like that.

As I foresaw, Mrs.Pelioncame striding down the hallway in another one of her pantsuits thatshe wore to school every day. I had never seen her in anything but a pant suit. Not even when it was

eighty degrees out and you could see the beads of sweat rolling down her face.

Ah Miss Sentierien, this isnt a very good way to start off the year is it? she said.

Actually, I think this is the perfect way to start the year. Especially since your beautifulface is

the first thing I get to see, I retorted, not bothering to hide the sarcasm in my voice.

She narrowed her eyes at me and said, Principals office. Now.

Great! I was just heading that way anyway, I lied. I loved getting her knickers in a twist as she

said it.

She ignored my comment and turned on her heels like we were in the army or something. The

way she acted, you might actually believe we were training to be soldiers to fight in a war.

We walked down the numerous hallways of my school in silence. It was always so weird to be

the only ones in the hall, like everyone else had just fell off the face of the earth. At that moment it was

even creepier because I was with Mrs.Pelion. Our steps echoed off the walls and I peered longingly intothe windows of the classroom doors where the smartstudents who managed to get to school on time

were.

Finally we made it to the main office where the principals office was also located. The principal,

Mr. Bradley, was leaning on one of the desks and drinking coffee. When he saw Mrs.Pelion and me, alook of annoyance flashed across his face but he covered it up with his usual jovial smile.

First period hasnt even started yet and youve already got a captive, eh Mrs.Pelion? Mr.Bradley said. Mr. Bradley was the coolest principal ever. He might also be the youngest principal ever.

Little did he know, all the students in this school speculated about how old he was all the time. We had

come to the conclusion that he couldnt be a day over twenty eight. Mrs.Pelion on the other hand webelieved that she might be a two hundred year old witch who fed on the misery of children to stay alive.

Mrs.Pelionwrinkled her nose as if she smelled something foul. I sincerely believed that shehated Mr. Bradley and that she might resort to murdering him to get his job as principal. Mr. Bradley

sir, she added distastefully, I think that you shouldnt be so laid back with the students. Only

punishment for their misdemeanors will teach them any discipline.

I doubted Mr. Bradley would ever do anything close to punishing us for our misdemeanors. Mr.

Bradley almost never got angry with us and was always joking around. I sometimes wondered how

someone like him got the job of being a principal who was supposed to be strict and stern which was the

exact opposite of what he actually was.

He chuckled at her and turned to me and said, Jade, you can just go to get your schedule. Imnot going to give you detention before the first bell has even rung. Another great thing about Mr.

Bradley was that he remembered everyones name. And I mean everyone. Even the janitors and the

lunch ladies.

But Mr. Bradley I think-

Just let it go Mrs.Pelion. Go get Jade her schedule.I stifled a giggle at Mrs.Pelionsreddening face. She was absolutely furious now. I was afraid

that her eyes would actually pop out of her head. Shewalked stiffly over to her desk and began typing

loudly into her computer to get me my schedule. I wouldnt be surprised if she broke the keyboard inhalf. Soon, the printer on her desk started whirring and out popped my schedule.

Thanks, Mrs.Pelion, I said in a sickly sweet voice.Her only response was a glare. I was going to say another witty retort, no doubt earning myself

another glare from Mrs.Pelion, but I found myself turning around towards the main office door instead.In the door stood the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen. Clearing at least six feet tall, he looked

like a god. His dark brown hair was almost black in color and swept over his beautiful chestnut brown

eyes. I found myself getting lost in them and struggled to control my instinct to see into his soul. I didnt

want to intrude on this gods inner thoughts. My eyes traveled to his luscious lips and lingered there fora few extra seconds. I became conscious of the fact that I was standing there like an idiot and checking

him out and immediately cast my eyes downward. I was sure that my cheeks were as red as tomatoes.

He seemed to be coming out of a dream too because he shook his head like he was trying to

clear it. As he walked over to Mrs.Pelions desk, his eyes never left mine.Hey. My name is Jace Luck. I just transferred here and Im not really sure how this place works.

Am I supposed to get my schedule here or something? Jace said in a hypnotizing voice.

I felt myself leaning towards him, drawn in by his seductive aura that I just so happened to take

a glance at.

Mrs.Pelions response snapped me back to the real world. Maybe it was the fact that shesounded like a tone deaf chicken? I dont know. Nice to meet you, Jace. Here is your schedule. Ill be

right back to talk to Mr. Bradley about getting you a guide for today, Mrs.Pelion said, sounding sincerefor once.

Shewaddled off to Mr. Bradleys office, leaving me and Jace behind. Alone. I really hoped he

hadnt noticed the fact that I was standing there drooling over him for the entire 5 minutes that he had

been here.
