A FA MILY TRADITION
For more than a century, Lunt Silversmiths
has maintained a proud silversmithing
tradition. No craft in America today is so
rich in tradition or has such a well-
preserved heritage as silversmithing. Fine
silversmithing is as much an art as it is a
trade with skills passed from father to
son, one generation to the next.
George Colby Lunt was born in New-
buryport, Massachusetts on December 30,
1864. He began his silversmithing career
as an apprentice engraver at the jewelry
store N. & T. Foster. He later joined A.F.
Towle and & Son in 1882 and studied
design and modeling in Boston with the
sculptor, Max Bachman.
Rogers, Lunt and Bowlen Company was
incorporated in Greenfeld, Massachusetts
soon after the failure of A.F. Towle & Son
in 1900. There, Lunt began crafting sterling
flatware, holloware, and giftware of
impeccable quality and classic style.
Established in 1902, we are proud to carry
on over 100 years of the American silver-
smithing tradition.

The genesis of the bowl: The House of
Representatives had sent a Circular
Letter to each of the Colonies, protesting
grievances against King George III.
The King demanded that the House
rescind the letter, and in defiance,
92 members voted NOT TO RESCIND.
In grateful recognition, 15 members of
the Sons of Liberty, whose names are
engraved around the rim of the bowl,
commissioned Paul Revere to fashion
a special gift... this bowl. It was
presented to the Massachusetts House
of Representatives in 1768.
The Liberty Bowl, as it became known,
is the only piece of silver which com-
memorated the birth of a nation and
is a priceless historic relic, as well as a
thing of beauty. The inscription on the far
side of the bowl, in a circular medallion,
reads “No. 45/Wilkes & Liberty.”

Sterling silver is a precious metal, containing 925 parts of pure silver and 75 parts
of an alloy. All sterling products are either stamped Sterling or .925 on the back.
S I LV E R P L AT E
Silverplate is a term for metal products made from a base metal that has been coated
with a layer of silver.
H O L L O WA R E
Occasionally sterling silver and silverplated tableware is referred to as holloware.
This refers to anything that you can serve from such as trays, bowls, pitchers, coffee
pots, tea pots, trivets, frames and candlesticks.
H O S T E S S S E T S
Hostess sets traditionally include: a butter serving knife, a sugar spoon, a dessert
server, a cold meat fork, a tablespoon and a pierced tablespoon (or a gravy ladle).
Additional place and serving pieces are available (oyster forks, demitasse spoons,
asparagus servers to pie servers, ice scoops, cream soup spoons and more).
s t e r l i n g s i l v e r c a r eWe suggest everyday use as sterling finish becomes better with age, fine wine and
the good life as we know it.
R E C O M M E N D E D C A R E
The best way to eliminate the need to polish your sterling is to use it every day.
If you do not use your sterling items regularly:
Store away from air in a silver chest or drawer lined with
a tarnish-preventing cloth
After use, wash sterling promptly in hot, soapy water.
Rinse thoroughly in clean hot water and dry immediately.
If washed in a dishwasher make sure the silver does not touch other
objects. Remove before the final drying cycle and dry by hand.
Polish sterling as needed with a good quality silver polish.
Avoid using dips as they may remove the oxidation that adds
to the contrast of some designs.
