Welcome Pastor Woods

WE PREPARE FOR WORSHIP

Gathering Music Crossroads

“Chariots’ Coming” by Don and Nancy Besig Duet: Zina Compton and Suzanne Tilley

*Call To Worship Worship Assistant and Congregation

Leader: Our God who is faithful calls us to worship. People: We come to sing praises to our steadfast God.

Leader: God invites us to join in an eternal covenant. People: With trembling we offer ourselves into covenant with God.

Leader: God calls us to faithfulness with one another. People: With God’s help we will treat others

with fairness and faithfulness.

*Prayer of the Day Led by Worship Assistant

Let us pray together…O God who is completely trustworthy and true: Grant us the grace to place our faith completely in you and to act as your true children by being faithful in all that we do; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

*Opening Songs Congregation and Crossroads “Open The Eyes Of My Heart” Paul Baloche

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord. Open the eyes of my heart.

I want to see You, I want to see You. (Repeat these four lines)

To see You high and lifted up,

Shining in the light of Your glory; Pour out Your power and love,

As we sing “Holy, Holy, Holy”. (Repeat these four lines)

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord. Open the eyes of my heart.

I want to see You, I want to see You. (Repeat these four lines)

“ How Great Is Our God” Tomlin, Reeves and Cash

The splendor of the King,

Clothed in majesty; Let all the earth rejoice,

All the earth rejoice. He wraps Himself in light, And darkness tries to hid, And trembles at His voice, And trembles at His voice.

Chorus: How great is our God!

Sing with me: How great is our God! All all will see how great,

How great is our God!

4

And age to age he stands, And time is in His hands; Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End.

The Godhead three in one, Father, Spirit, Son,

The Lion and the Lamb The Lion and the Lamb.

Chorus:

How great is our God! Sing with me: How great is our God!

All all will see how great, How great is our God!

Repeat Chorus

How great, how great is our God!

*Prayer of Confession Pastor Woods and Congregation

Leader: Let us confess to God and before one another our sins, and especially our failure to trust God and reflect God’s faithfulness.

People: We confess to you, O God, and before one another that we have sinned. You have been faithful in all your dealings with us, and yet we fail to trust you completely. We think that we must use others and be

deceitful in our dealings with them in order to get ahead. We forget that reflecting your faithfulness is the highest goal we can achieve. Help us to

place our trust in you so that we might be trustworthy people. Amen.

Leader: God is faithful and always welcomes us into relationships built on trust and truth. Be filled with God’s love and live honestly with your neighbors.

Reading 1 Peter 3:18–22 Lay Reader

As God acted through Christ's suffering and death to bring us to God, so God acts through baptism to save us from a sinful existence.

This spiritual cleansing marks our new life in Christ.

18For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, 19in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, 20who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. 21And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you — not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

*Congregational Response Congregation and Crossroads “Open Our Days” Larry Olson

Open our days, Open our nights, To see the Way And the Truth And the Life.

Open our hearts, Open our minds,

To hear Your Word Filling us with new Life.

*Gospel Mark 1:9–15 Pastor Woods

The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the first chapter. Glory to you, O Lord.

The Spirit that comes upon Jesus at his baptism sustains him when he is tested

by Satan so that he might proclaim the good news of God's reign.

6

9In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased." 12And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. 14Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe in the good news."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Children’s Message Pastor Woods After the Children’s Message, if someone has signed up lead the program, Children are invited to

participate in “Children's Church” . Children will return to their families in time to commune with them.

*Apostles’ Creed In Unison I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. on the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *The Prayers Pastor John Woods

*The Peace Pastor Woods and Congregation

The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you.

*Song of Praise Congregation and Crossroads ““ One Thing Remains” (VBS 2015) Riddle, Black and Johnson

Higher than the mountains that I face, Stronger than the power of the grave,

Constant through the trial and the change, One thing remains. One thing remains.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me. Your love,— your love.

On and on and on and on it goes. It overwhelms and satisfies my soul,

And I never have to be afraid. One thing remains. One thing remains.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

11

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me. Your love,— your love.

Your love never fails, it never gives up. It never runs out on me.
