Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
For the last two years, we have maintained the same schedule of four weekend worship services year round. We did this because we were told that it would lead to growth in our worshiping community as we held to consistent worship times and eliminated the “summer slowdown.”
The Worship Committee examined attendance data for that two year period and con-cluded that four services are not necessary during the summer months. Then, we were faced with a difficult decision: which service to suspend over the summer. Once again turning to the data, we discovered that the only service that had not grown numerically during that time was the Sunday afternoon Connections service. It was a logical conclu-sion to suspend it, but it did not sit well with many of us. That gathering feeds so many faithful with the Word of God in a relaxed and intimate setting. It is also lots of fun for me to lead!
With that in mind, our Music Director, Gina Jones, and I will be working to make 11:00 service a bit less formal when the new summer schedule begins on the first Sunday in June. If you attend 11:00 worship on a regular basis you will notice a few additions. Sa-rah Davis will serve as our cantor (song leader), a reception will be held for the first time following that service in the narthex, and certain elements of the service itself will be less formal. What you will not experience is wholesale change! The service will contin-ue to be presented with the highest level of professionalism, worshipfulness, and taste.
I ask that you pray for this process of planning and for the mission of the congregation. We will keep you in loop all the way.
Yours in Christ, Pastor Jay
Council Members
Alfred Domschke, President Jim Stark, Stewardship Libby VanZino, Vice-President Marilyn Sorenson, Social Ministry Michael Miller, Secretary Marcia Wilson, Evangelism Jenn Billingham, Fellowship Carole Glynn, Christian Education Property-Mitch Wilson (Buildings); Debbie Rescott, Treasurer (Advisor) Ben Troemel (Grounds); Michelle Davis, Financial Sec. (Advisor) Libby VanZino (Administration) Angelika Domschke, Worship
The Church Council meeting was held on April 19th and here are some highlights of discussions and decisions.
The meeting began with a prayer and devotion by Pastor Jay.
Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed, as was the agenda for the evening.
- The Financial Secretary gave the financial report. (A copy of the report is posted in the fellowship hall). Jim
told us that we are keeping up with operating expenses. With an average attendance of 322 per weekend, March
recorded the highest attendance on record. 457 for the two Easter services was an all-time high.
- Treasurer’s report – Also posted in the fellowship hall. Debbie gave each committee chair a detailed report as to
his or her committee’s spending against budget YTD.
- The Evangelism report began with a hearty greeting, “The Lord is Risen!” Marcia told the council about ads
that were placed in local publications for Easter and Holy Week. She also showed an ad that had been placed in
the Patrick Airforce Base Relocation Guide. The ad mentioned that Pastor Jay is a former military chaplain.
Small quilt baskets have been made for new members to the congregation. The baskets are filled with a brochure,
Time and Talent Sheets, a church bumper sticker, cross in the pocket, and candies. Favorite Bible verses are still
being sought from the congregation.
- Worship Committee – Our new Holy Communion trays were recently dedicated in loving memory of Don
Hinds. They are much lighter and easier for the worship assistants to carry. Lent, Holy Week, and Easter prepa-
rations were made. The Good Friday service featuring a choir suite was very well received.
- Fellowship Committee – 198 people enjoyed the Easter breakfast this year. Many dates are available to sponsor
fellowship times.
- Social Ministry – Many thanks to the Cocoa Beach Women’s Golf Club for numerous food items! The same
group will be running an October food drive. 25 to 30 volunteers are part of the pantry crew. On Laundry Day
up to $90 worth of laundry is being washed. A revised poster requesting bike donations has been placed in local
condos.
- Christian Education – 21 children participated in the Easter Egg hunt which was held inside the Ministry Center
this year.
- Property – Gutters were installed along areas around the covered drive and north side of the sanctuary. Many
problems at the church have been addressed. The property shed has been cleaned out and all equipment has been
put in good working order. A photo was passed around of the newest addition to our church family: a new riding
tractor.
Old Business –
- Events for the conference center will be planned as soon as a decision is made on the summer worship schedule.
- Gutters have been installed.
- Cigarette disposal containers have been received. It was decided that “smoking area” signs would not be in-
stalled, as first proposed. Instead, people will be informed of the smoking areas by word of mouth.

New Business –
- A proposal was made to form a task force called the Green Team. This task force will work with all church
committees to reduce our carbon footprint, become active in educating and promoting restoration and care of
God’s good creation. Motion for the task force approved.
- A gift was received from the estate of Norm and Ruth Hilleren. The gift, in the amount of $58,913.87, was
given without restrictions on its use. After discussing a number of options, council decided to come before the
congregation at a specially called meeting to suggest that the donation be used as seed money for renovations to
the fellowship hall.
- Marilyn Sorenson suggested that a change be made in the church food pantry hours of operation. She made a
motion that the Tuesdays in the schedule be eliminated and that the pantry be open on the 1st through 4th Satur-
day of each month. Motion approved.
- A proposal to hire an IT specialist to work with our Ministry Center wireless network was tabled. The pro-
posal will be re-examined at the next meeting.
- Our lay delegate to Synod Assembly this June will be Lisa Bergstresser.
- A proposal was brought by the Worship Committee to reduce the number of worship services offered over the
summer at LCR. The Worship Committee suggested that the Sunday 1:00pm go on break from the first Sunday
in June to the last Sunday in August. This decision was based on several factors; the main being that attend-
ance at that service has lagged behind the other services offered. Some elements of Connections worship will
be introduced on a trial basis at 11:00 worship over the summer. Proposal was approved.

Welcome to the Evangelism Committee!
Pray, Care & Share
How do we get to know and care for each other? We reach out
and share with others in friendship, work together, enjoy fellow-
ship, worship together, play together, give of ourselves in times of
need, struggles, and grief.
Let's look at a positive way of reaching out called encouragement.
What do we understand about the meaning of encouragement. For one thing, there is a giver
and a recipient. In many different times and circumstances, we may be called on to give sup-
port, to cheer on, to hearten, to invigorate, to foster, to help, to assist, to inspire, as well as
embolden and strengthen others. When we uplift others and share our love and faith in our
Lord, we are given the opportunity to bless others in their times of trials. We even may be
called to demonstrate this when we ourselves are struggling. Remember on the cross Jesus
said to the thief, "Today you will be with me in Paradise!” Luke 23:43 Amazing, after total
torture, beating, and nailed to a cross, Jesus gives HOPE.
I’m not asking you to be Jesus, just a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness and en-
couragement may help another find their way to Him. We all know folks in this world who
need to be encouraged, even here in our church. Pray and ask the Lord how you can sincerely
encourage others. Who knows, you may be called for such a time as this?
Cocoa Beach became home to my family in June of
1983. Moving from Easton, Pennsylvania, my husband
Jim and I arrived with two of my children, Philip and
Bill. My oldest son, Larry, was in college and my daugh-
ter, Suzanne, just graduated from high school in PA.
We joined Resurrection almost immediately. I became a
Sunday School teacher, joined the choir and served on
Church Council. When Living Hope started, I was part of
the first group that went out and ministered to our friends on the street. I'm now involved
with the food pantry. I have been part of our Saturday night cafe service "Praise Singers"
for many years and truly enjoy the people, the music, and praising the Lord. Once a
month we also sing at the Solaris Nursing Home and the Brevard County Alzheimer's
Foundation.
About ten years ago, I started volunteering at Cape Canaveral Hospital in a program called
Nobody Dies Alone. The chaplain would call one of us when he got word that someone
was dying without any family nearby. We would sit with them until they passed. After
that, came visiting and praying with patients. This led to me following them to the Solaris
Nursing Home where I now volunteer weekly. Once a week, I help serve at a meal minis-
try in Cocoa. It's been a blessing to me to call Resurrection my church family throughout
the past 33 years and I look forward to many more to come.
