Let us fill our boards with eager disciples, so that the new Pastor does not inherit the baggage of the past and can go to work immediately on what the Lord would have him to do and Peace needs him to do. I got the text from Keith Kirchhoff, “they

approved the ministry description with only minor

changes.” I felt at first joy and relief, that the body of

Peace was indeed one in Spirit and purpose and that

this important part of the calling process had been

finished.

Then my focus turned to the kind of Pastor that would have to come in

order to fulfill the responsibilities of the ministry description. The only

word that came to mind was perfect. To be traditional yet flexible, to be

a great shepherd and a great evangelist, to work with all groups and be a

leader of all ages. While these are valid biblical requirements of the

Shepherd, all must remember that pastors are no different than anyone

else; they make poor decisions; they sin.

Your next pastor will not be perfect. He will fail. He will sin against you

and the Lord. But what brings pastors and laity together is what they

share besides a sinful nature, faith in the blood and name of the Lord

Jesus Christ. He is the head shepherd of the flock and the under

shepherds. He is the one who forgives and forgets. He is

the one who enables us to bear the fruits of repentance

and redemption so we can forgive and forget the sins of

others, including those of pastors and each other. Let us

prepare for the arrival of God’s chosen by getting things

as perfect as we can before his arrival. Individuals and

boards looking at the challenges of Peace and trying to

address them with solutions that can be in place when he

comes. Let us seek out the brother or sister that we don’t

have a good relationship with and work things out. Let us get the physical

plant in top shape. Let us fill our boards with eager disciples, so that the

new Pastor does not inherit the baggage of the past and can go to work

immediately on what the Lord would have him to do and Peace needs

him to do. It can and will be done, for we can do all things through Him

who strengthen us. In the name of the only perfect one, Jesus the Christ,

and to the blessing of the faithful of Peace Lutheran. Amen.

First things first – Mark your

calendar for 12:30 January 18th

when the LWML has its annual

Chili/Soup Get Together. Hopeful-

ly, all have heard of Mother’s

Refuge opening its doors again in

December after a devastating fire

two years ago. We are pleased to

have its director, Robert Zorn, speak to us about the

efforts to once again have this home meeting the

needs of young mothers and their babies. After

gathering together on Sunday morning, December 21

in the church basement, we know what a good

feeling is generated around tables as we worship our

Lord in different surroundings. Let’s duplicate that

aura once again as we learn about this vital ministry

and break bread with fellow Christians. For planning

purposes, we ask that you sign up in the atrium.

There will be an added interest that afternoon as our

sewing ladies present their sewing gifts of love for

use at the home.

LWML

The Messenger of Peace 3 2015

The topic for the January 2015 circle

meetings is in the Winter 2014 Quarter-

ly on page 16 entitled “How Can I

Control My Tongue?” written by Jan

Brunette. Jan is a Christian author, speaker and

freelance writer and has been an active member of

the LWML for over forty years.

A very timely Bible Study as we start a New Year.

We might be suffering with a condition that has

caused others hurt. Sometimes what we want to say,

comes out wrong, and we offend someone in the

process. Let’s learn to focus our emotions on Christ

and not on our feelings and emotions.

The Roll Call word is “Tongue.”

Alpha Circle will meet the first Monday in the New

Year, January 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the home of

Edie Kirchhoff with Cindy McCubbin as her

Co-Hostess. The topic will be led by Jean Roberts.

Dorily Miller will check Acolytes Robes for launder-

ing or mending needs. For more information please

call the President of Alpha Circle, Elaine Nolen at

816-763-1773.

Esther Circle will meet the second Saturday,

January 10, 2015 at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall.

The topic will be led by Kathleen Jarvis. For more

information please call the President of Esther

Circle, Lois Gilham at 816-353-3110.

Mary/Martha Circle will meet the second Wednes-

day, January 14, 2015 at 9:30 am in the

Fellowship Hall with Lisa Thornton hosting the

meeting. Nita Runge will lead the topic. For more

information please call the President of Mary/

Martha, Peggy Noah at 816-358-0601.

A New Year - As we start a New Year untouched

and unmarred, may we try to do better than the year

just past. May we be more caring, be more

understanding, be more compassionate, be more

wise and kinder. How will we use the days of this

New Year. How will we use the time God places in

our hands? Let us seek the Lord in prayer and place

our future plans in God’s care.

Thank You, Thank You - The Lutheran Women’s

Lutheran Church.

We are pleased to announce that our program for this

month will feature Rets Rupmejs, foreign exchange

with a short devotion and business meeting.

The OWLS extend an invitation to all the congrega-

tion, our friends and our neighbors. No one is either

too young or too old to attend. We ask only that you

enjoy yourself in the time you spend with us. After

the program we will have an old fashioned pot luck

luncheon. If you wish to join us, bring a covered

dish and enough food to share our meal with our

visitors and the members of our OWLS group.

Normally our program and lunch will finish around

1:00 pm. Feel free to linger as long as you wish for

visiting and fellowship. Our monthly gatherings are

in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 10:30 am the

first Tuesday of each month.

The Messenger of Peace 8 2015

Of course every Christian is for Mission

Work. After all, isn’t that what the

Great Commission is all about – “Go ye

therefore and make disciples of all

nations…” So what is Peace doing

about mission work throughout the

world and right here in the USA? You might be a bit

surprised at the answer because it has to do with

something that has been on a pedestal at the back of

the church the last Sunday of every month for as

long as you can remember. Oh, that’s right. You

probably go right by it without giving it a thought

because after all, it doesn’t concern you. A purple

and white box only concerns that small group of

ladies who wear purple one Sunday in October and

seem to have bake sales and ask for food donations

and who knows what else all year long. The box is

marked “Mite Box” and “Mite Box Sunday” is

marked on the church calendar each month, but

really, it’s of no concern to most of the congregation,

especially the men. Right?? Wrong!!

Mite box is the gathering of coins and bills for

mission work for ALL WORSHIPPERS at Peace.

(Remember the widow that Jesus pointed out as

giving her “all” when she put her mites in the box

outside the temple?) Please read about what the

$100,000 pledged for just one of 18 projects is going

to do to ease suffering and proclaim the Gospel in

Haiti (on page 9). Then won’t you bring a dollar or

two the last Sunday in January to help with this Mis-

sion Work? Read next month about the $40,000

pledged to support Lutheran Public Radio.

ALL LOOSE CHANGE IS WELCOME!!

MISSION WORK!

The Family of Jesus offers a fictional view of

six of the family members of Jesus, all an-

chored in Scriptural truth, creating a life-

changing and unprecedented emotional

connection to the Bible.

The characters in these short stories were among

those closest to Jesus: Mary, Joseph, James (brother

of Jesus), John the Baptist, Zechariah, and Elizabeth.

Each has a compelling tale to tell. Karen intersperses

fictional, emotionally gripping details anchored in

Scripture with historical and theological insights and

questions that will guide soul-searching and

reflection.

The next Book Club will meet on Wednesday,

January 28 at 9:30 in the Social Room.

Savior Jesus,

Thank you for giving us everything we need for

living a godly life as you have shown us to. In 2

Peter You remind us of Your divine power and

promises You have given to us all. Our human

desires often distract us from sharing Your grace

and mercy; help us to remain focused on You and

what You can do in our lives. And as told to us all

in verse 11, “Then God will give you a grand en-

trance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and

Savior Jesus Christ.” AMEN!

Together we can accomplish much and with

Christ nothing is impossible!!

YEAH!!! Grow in Peace has now been upgraded

with solar panels on our roof. This should assist us

in our commitment to improve and to continue increas-

ing our efforts towards quality standards.

Look for a GIP parent survey to come out soon. We need

feedback from all on how we are doing so far and sugges-

tions on what we can improve upon.

GIP Philosophy Statement

Grow in Peace Child Care Center shall provide a safe Christian

environment with loving, experienced, and professional staff that

recognize parents have the primary responsibility in skill development

and Christian training for their children. As an outreach ministry of

Peace Lutheran Church, we strive to set an example of Christ's Love

through God's Word and assist in the spiritual, intellectual, emotional,

social and physical development of the children entrusted to our care.

“Helping children grow in wisdom and in grace.”

Happy and blessed 2015 to ALL!!
