Nicknamed the 'white city', Arequipa is surrounded by spectacular mountains, including the volcano El Misti. A fascinating feature of the city is its many beautiful buildings made of a light-colored volcanic rock called sillar. The City Tour of Arequipa is a great way to get to know the impressive beauty of "La Ciudad Blanca", the White City. The tour includes sites such as the church and square of San Francisco, home of La Compañía de Jesus, colonial homes, the Plaza de Armas and the unforgettable Convent of Santa Catalina, characterized by its narrow streets and different styles and famous in the 16th century. The Convent of Santa Catalina, perhaps the most fascinating colonial religious building in the country, was until recently home to almost 450 nuns.

Private Colca Canyon Tour Starts

We will depart at 7:30 am from Arequipa, crossing 160 Km to the town of Chivay, capital of the Province of Caylloma. At the beginning of our excursion we will enjoy the majestic views of the Misti, Chachani and PichuPichu volcanoes and then approach the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”, where our transportation will make a short stop to observe the wild Vicuñas (the most important American camel) in its natural habitat. At this point we will be around 3,400 meters above sea level. We will arrive to “Pata Wasi” (Pata=high Wasi=home) an Andean community at the opposite border of the reserve. Here you might enjoy the natural formation of rocks and the view to the backside of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. To prevent altitude sickness we will have an original Andean “Mate de Coca” drink in Sunbay at 3,800 meters above sea level.



Continuing on the road we will pass through “Tocra” over the 4,500 meter high mountains, where we will observe lakes with migrant birds and get pictures of the “Antiplano” (high plains) with its Llamas and Guanacos. Our highest point will be “Pata Pampa” (Pata=high, Pampa=land) located at 4,820 meters, where we’ll observe the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca-Hualca, Mismi (the source of the Amazon River), and the “Cordillera de Chila”. When we are getting close to the town of Chivay (3,651 meters) we will start to wonder at the spectacular multicolor view of the terraces of the Colca valley. In Chivay we will drive to our hotel and after occupying our rooms we will have time for lunch, (cost of lunch is included in program). In the afternoon we will walk to the real Indian Town of Coporaque, where we will visit its traditional main square and -optionally- go on an hike to the hill of the San Antonio ruins, where we will visit a cemetery and have a wonderful view to the terraces of the Canyon (the hike takes about 1 hr.) We then proceed onto the 5* Hotel, Las Casitas De Colca, deep in the base of Colca Canyon.

The hotel was constructed to be a refuge of peace and tranquillity, providing the guest a chance to forget about all the worries of everyday life and enjoy the serenity and beauty that the Andes offer. Marvelous views, a singular hospitable setting, excellent weather, and the height of service you deserve are a few of the delights this hotel offers. Other features include: The Stables There are five beautiful Peruvian paso horses that live in the stables which you can visit and feed. Horseback riding excursionsare also offered along different trails that lead to nearby communities.



The Garden The hotel is located on 24 hectares, which include an extensive organic garden where a large variety of plants and vegetable are grown, many of which are used in the food offered to the guests. There are also 5 greenhouses set aside for growing vegetables and other flowers. A lovely picnic is offered to all guests in the midst of the flower fields. The Farm This hotel has an incredible variety of plant and animal species, and many people visit us just to experience the diversity of birds that can be seen in this region of the country, like the giant hummingbird that feeds on the cantuta flower, regional flower of Arequipa. Ducks, chickens, turkeys, pigs, rabbits, and Guinea pigs at the farm are also raised on the hotel grounds.

Private Cruz del Condor and transfer to Puno

We will have our breakfast very early in the morning (about 6:00 am), so we can leave to the famous “Cruz del Condor” point as early as possible. We’ll arrive to “Cruz del Condor” at approximately 8:00 am. After taking pictures of the majestic flight of the Condors, our guide will take you for a short walk near the Canyon. (01 hour approx.) We will return to our transportation and drive back to Chivay, visiting on the route the traditional town of Pinchollo and the “Antahuilque viewpoint”, where a wonderful 1,500 year old terracing constructed by the Collaguas culture well before the Incas’ time can be observed. Also we will make a stop at the look-out point of “Choquetico” with its “Tumbas colgantes” (hanging tombs), and take a look to the litomaqueta, model of the canyon terraces carved in a rock. We will continue visiting the town of Maca, an Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November of 1991 and the town of Yanque with the most beautiful church in the valley. We’ll return to Chivay town to have lunch at a local restaurant (cost of lunch is included in the program). You will then enjoy a transfer onto Puno and Lake Titicaca (approx. 5 hours). You will also visit the Pre-Inca Sillustani Funerary Towers as you approach Lake Titicaca.



Sillustani Funerary Towers Sillustani is a pre-Incan burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo near Puno in Peru. The tombs, which are built above ground in tower-like structures called chullpas, are the vestiges of the Colla people, Aymara who were conquered by the Inca in the 15th century. The structures housed the remains of complete family groups, although they were probably limited to nobility. Many of the tombs have been dynamited by grave robbers, while others were left unfinished. Ancestor worship and kinship were integral parts of Aymara culture, and the huge chullpas or "chulpa" at Sillustani were built to house the Aymara elite of the immediate pre-Inca and Inca period. Many of the chullpas at Sillustani show pre-Inca characteristics that were later redressed with Inca stone blocks. Similar chullpas are found throughout the entire south Central Andes with the above ground burial styles going back at least to mature Tiwanaku (ca AD 500-950). The insides of the tombs were built to hold entire groups of people, most likely extended families of the Aymara elite. Corpses were not intentionally mummified, but in the dry environment created by the closed tomb, they survived for centuries. Most mummy bundles indicate burial in a fetal position. Some of the tombs also have various animal shapes carved into the stone. The only openings to the buildings face east, where it was believed the Sun was reborn by Mother Earth each day.

Recommended Tours After rising at the hour that suits you, enjoy breakfast in bed if you wish wake at dawn to a magnificent sunrise. In the morning your guides will take you by car and boat to visit the legendary islands of Uros and meet one of traditional families that live there. The Uros Floating Islands are located near the protected National Reserve of Titicaca. The people of Uros are a proud culture who due to persecution by other groups found refuge by living on manmade islands many years ago. They call themselves kot-suña or people of the lake who claim to have "black blood," as they are immune to the cold and consider themselves to be owners of the lake and its waters. Learn about their history, uses for totora reeds and customs after exploring one of these impressive islands. The site is a must for travelers to the area; thus expect to see many other visitors. Return to the hotel for lunch and a siesta. Return to the hotel for lunch and siesta. After teatime you could you can bike the fields of Plateria. This biking excursion will become one of your memorable bike rides. The fields of Plateria, the district where Titilaka is located, provide the perfect setting for active exploration. Follow country roads along the grand lake and diverse terrains, where you will observe the local villager’s rural way of life. You will see them washing clothes, herding their animals and tending to their children. These are conditions for a great time outdoors; you set the pace and direction. Return to the hotel for dinner at 7:30 pm. Cocktail at 6:30 pm followed by Dinner.

This spectacular rail journey begins in the city of Puno on the shores of Beautiful Lake Titicaca and travels north to the historic city of Cuzco and vice - versa. Observation / Bar Car – Andean Explorer Train On the journey the train makes a gentle descent / ascent to slightly, lower / higher altitudes. One half of the journey showcases the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuña and alpaca can be seen, while the second half is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains which tower over the deep valleys of the meandering Huatanay River. While traveling aboard the Andean Explorer, the glass-walled observation car provides the perfect opportunity to view the beautiful scenery.

We start the tour at the Inca ruins of Tambomachay. This was an Inca sanctuary dedicated to the cult of water, a place reserved for Inca Royalty. Consisting of a group of walls that are united by stairs, there are springs that cascade to a pool through several channels. The waterfalls in these ruins form part of a terrace to the second wall where the drainage cascades to the first and forms a small pool. The window sills, holes or niches are 2m height, and was the place, according to the historians, that the Inca and important people of his court offered water rights to the Sun God, Inti.



We then proceed on to visit Puca Pucara (Quechua for red fortress). This is an Inca archaeological site located again on the peak of a hill and is thought to be a military position and an administrative centre. Due to its proximity to Tambomachay, it is believed to have had a relationship with its defense, as well as the control of the route to Calca.



We proceed on to visit Qenko; a sanctuary dedicated to the adoration of animals, and consists of ruins formed by a rocky site with stairs in a zigzag, and a main building similar to a circular amphitheatre where 19 window sills are located as a way of seats. It is presumed that this place was a site of adoration, and supporting this presumption is the presence of an enormous stone block of 5.9m height that resembles the appearance of a puma. There is a labyrinthine entrance towards several underground galleries, passages, channels and stairs with signs of an earlier culture. These reveal themselves in a series of drawings and engravings including outstanding figures of pumas.



We then visit one of the most important Inca sites in South America the enormous Fortress of Sacsayhuamán.

Its construction took over seven decades and required the work of 20,000 men approximately, both for the foundations and hewn stone works, the transportation of materials, carving and stones setting. Hewn stones could have been located at Muina, Huacoto and Rumicolca, 20 kilometers away from Cusco, and at closer places such as Sallu, Rumi, Chita, Curovilca and Viracocha. Thereafter, we will visit Cusco Cathedral which is one of the finest Colonial Cathedrals in the Americas. Building started in 1560 and was declared completed in 1664. The design is constituted by a Latin - Cross base, the facade has a Renaissance style, very ornamental, and it contains the best manifestations of colonial goldsmith and wood carving, as well as a valuable collection of canvases from the Escuela Cusqueña (Academy of Cusco). There are two auxiliary chapels on its both sides: Capilla del Triunfo and Jesus, Maria y Jose.



Finally we proceed on to visit Coricancha (from the Quechua word Quri Qancha meaning 'Golden Courtyard'), originally named Inti Qancha (' Temple of the Sun') was it the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated primarily to Inti, the Sun God. It was one of the most revered and respected temples of the city of Cusco, Peru. The walls and floors were once covered in sheets of solid gold, and the courtyard was filled with golden statues. Spanish reports tell of its opulence that was 'fabulous beyond belief'. The Church of Santo Domingo was built on the site, using the ruined foundations of the temple that was flattened by the Spanish in the 17th century, and is a fine example of where Inca stonework has been incorporated into the structure of a colonial building. Major earthquakes have severely damaged the church, but the Inca stone walls, built out of huge, tightly-interlocking blocks of stone, still stand thanks to the sophisticated stone masonry. Nearby is an underground archaeological site museum containing a number of interesting pieces, including mummies, textiles and sacred idols.

Introducing The Sacred Valley Tucked under the tawny skirts of formidable foothills, the beautiful Río Urubamba Valley, known as El Valle Sagrado (The Sacred Valley), is about 15km north of Cusco as the condor flies, via a narrow road of hairpin turns. Long the home of attractive colonial towns and isolated weaving villages, in recent years it has become a destination in its own right. Star attractions are the markets and the lofty Inca citadels of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, but the Valley is also packed with other Inca sites. Trekking routes are deservedly gaining in popularity. Adrenaline activities range from rafting to rock climbing. Spend the day exploring this peaceful, fetching corner of the Andes. The archaeological sites of Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Chinchero can be visited with a boleto turístico, which is included in the tour.



Pisac Market A famed hill town, Pisac is a great place to purchase top quality Andean knitwear at lower prices than visitors will find in major cities during their travels in Peru. Woven blankets, tapestries, and alpaca garments such as sweaters and mittens, colorful fabric and accessories are found in abundance at the Pisac market in addition to pottery, jewelry, and other handicrafts. Though Pisac’s biggest crafts market takes place on Sunday, you will find fewer tourists and smaller crowds in general if you visit the weekday craft markets. The village’s largest produce market is also held on Sunday, bringing a multitude of vendors from the countryside to supply the local population with produce, fresh from the fields.



Pisac Inca Ruins It’s not hard to succumb to the charms of sunny Pisac, a bustling colonial village at the base of a spectacular Inca fortress perched on a mountain spur.

Its pull is universal and recent years have seen an influx of expats and new age followers in search of an Andean Shangri-la. Located just 33km northeast of Cuzco by a paved road, it’s the most convenient starting point to the Sacred Valley. The ruins are separated along the ridge into four groups: Pisac, Intihuatana, Q'allaqasa, and Kinchiracay. The Intihuatana group includes the Temple of the Sun, baths, altars, water fountains, a ceremonial platform, and an Intihuatana, a volcanic outcrop carved into a "hitching post for the Sun" (or Inti). With military, religious, and agricultural structures, the site served at least a triple purpose. Researchers believe that Pisac defended the southern entrance to the Sacred Valley, while Choquequirao defended the western entrance, and the fortress at Ollantaytambo the northern. Inca Pisac controlled a route which connected the Inca Empire with the border of the rain forest.



Ollantaytambo After lunch, we proceed onto Ollantaytambo an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning.

The town is located at the foot of some spectacular Inca ruins which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses. Stone used for these buildings was brought from a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River - an incredible feat involving the efforts of thousands of workers. The complex was still under construction at the time of the conquest and was never completed.



Posada Tunupa Lunch Lunch at Posada Tunupa is included. Posada Tunupa serves perhaps the finest buffet lunch in the Sacred Valley.

The Posada itself is set in extensive gardens with beautiful views across the Valley. Chinchero Chinchero was once one of the most important Inca towns in Peru. There is a lovely Colonial Church and a great plaza where a local market is held.

Revisit Machu Picchu Private Guided Tours of Machu Picchu. You may start at Dawn or as you wish. All tours are included you are only limited by your time and energy.

Machu Picchu Tours: Inti Punku (Sun Gate) (2 Hours round trip) Inti Punku the Sun Gate marks the entrance to Machu Picchu. It is a one hour uphill hike to the southeast of the Sanctuary, climbing more than 300 meters. The hike is on the original Inca trail and is paved with Inca stones. There is a spectacular view from the gate (pictured right).



Apu Machu Picchu (4 to 5 Hours Roundtrip) The hike to the summit of Apu Machu Picchu is 2 ½ hours and can be quite steep in places. This trail, accessed from Machu Picchu, joins parts of the Inca trail leading to the Sun Gate before climbing to the mountain's highest point. From there, enjoy the view of soaring eagles as well as Machu Picchu and other significant ruins in the area, such as Putukusi, Huayna Picchu, Salkantay mountain and the Vilcanota River view. This is a breathtaking hike, lot of orchids along the way, birds in the bushy areas, and with every stop the view is gets better and better. The climb is 600 meters uphill, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. *** Access to Apu Machu Picchu is controlled by special tickets, these need to be purchased in advance by us. Access is 07:00 – 11:00. Please ask to have these tickets included in your tour if desired***



Inka Bridge (Bridge 1 Hour Round Trip) This hike is to the south west of Machu Picchu, a nice original trail that overlooks the Aobamba valley and the Hydro-electric plant. This Inca Bridge is a part of a mountain trail that heads west from Machu Picchu. The trail is a stone path, part of which is cut into a cliff face. A twenty-foot gap was left in this section of the carved cliff face, over a 1,900 feet drop that could be bridged with two tree trunks. When the tree trunks were removed then the trail became impassable to outsiders. The path is narrow and paved with original Inca stones. The steep trail continues on and climbs the side of the mountain, leading adventurous travelers to a remote corner of this archaeological site. In addition to a magnificent bird's-eye view of Machu Picchu, the summit also offers a perfect vantage point to the canyon of the Vilcanota River, the mountain of Putukusi and the distant snow-capped Andean peaks.



Huayna Picchu (3 - 4 Hours) Huayna Picchu (Huayna Picchu or Young Peak) is the mountain you see behind Machu Picchu. Towering above the north end of Machu Picchu this steep mountain is often seen in the backdrop to the classic photos of the ruins. The mountain is steep, but stone steps are laid along most of the way and where the mountain is steeper you will find steel cables used as handrails. For fit people it is not a difficult climb. On wet days you have to be very careful as things can turn dangerous quickly. Very Limited Access! Only 400 people are allowed to hike Huayna Picchu each day. You have to sign in at the entrance gate. The first 200 numbers are released at 7:00am, and are often gone in less than an hour on busier days. The second 200 are available at 10:00am. ***You should buy these special tickets in advance with us to be sure you will have space for this hike*** What to see while hiking; the beautiful landscape on your way to the top is breath taking and there are some ruins near the top which many like to visit.



The most important thing about Huayna Picchu is the bird’s eye view of the whole of Machu Picchu from the top. More on the level of difficulty: You will be glad to see that the path is almost two meters wide, but at the beginning only, later it becomes narrower, and one side there is a steep fall. There are some accidents and even deaths every year so be aware this can be a quite dangerous hike. After a while you will find the path becomes really narrow - only a couple of feet wide and here the slope is really steep. Throughout the rocks are uneven and sometimes slippery too, but you will find hand rails along those areas.

EXCURSIONS AND ACTIVITIES Excursions and activities offered at Titilaka are included in the rates except for those specified as a special program or at additional cost. Our excursions are based on ¼ day, half- day or full duration and have three difficulty levels: Easy (I), Moderate (II), or Difficult (III). All excursions include transport with driver and are guided by one of our trained professional interpreters in Spanish or English and include beverages and snacks. FOOD AND DRINKS

Life and meals at the hotel are carefree and flexible. Guests may dine in their room, at the main dining room, on the terraces or picnic style on outings. Guests are offered daily specials and a selection of a la carte options. Full breakfast is served from dawn until noon, including local breads, cheese,

fruits and egg options. Lunch and appetizers are served from noon until 3pm, and afternoon tea is offered prior to the excursions. Cocktails and dinner are served from 7pm. If the weather permits, sundowners are served in the lounge, on the beach or at the outings. The bar service is available throughout the day. PAYMENTS AND CASH Please note that at Titilaka, all payments for additional services should be made in cash or with American Express, MasterCard, or Visa credit cards. ATM cash dispensers are not available at Juliaca Airport and the hotel has limited cash available for money exchange. We recommend traveling with enough cash in local currency.

HEALTH AND SAFETY Altitude Sickness or Soroche Lake Titicaca is located 3,450 meters above sea level. Higher than 2,000 meters of altitude it is possible to suffer "Soroche" characterized by headache, dizziness and nausea. To avoid these symptoms, we suggest that you plan your trip and gradually adapt to the altitude visiting Arequipa or Cusco before Titilaka. On your first day at Titilaka follow these tips: - Avoid excessive exercise - Drink plenty of water (more than 3 liters per day) - Do not drink alcohol or coffee (or do so moderately) At the hotel, we offer Coca teas that are ancient natural remedies to alleviate and prevent these symptoms. In addition, we have a full time nurse who will monitor your oxygen level throughout your stay and administer additional oxygen if needed. Nearby hospitals and additional medical assistance is available in 50 minutes in the city of Puno. Water Quality Although Peru has made vast improvements concerning water quality, it is still not safe to drink the tap water. We process and filter the lake water for the hotel use, however we do not recommend drinking it. Please use bottled water which is available at the bar, in your room and at all excursions and transfers. If you want to help us reduce pollution in the area, we encourage you to bring your reusable water bottle. Sunburn If you are travelling to the highlands of Peru, sunburn is of major concern because of the altitude and high level of radiation. Be sure to wear plenty of sun block, preferably over 45 SPF, and a hat at all times.



Dehydration Because of the highlands’ dry climate, dehydration and dryness may become a problem. Be sure to drink plenty of liquids and to apply lip balm and moisturizer continuously; both are found in your room. CLIMATE & WEATHER The weather in Puno, due to its geographical location and its high altitude, changes continually. Days are worm and evenings cold. The region has a yellow and the green seasons. The summer or green season from December until March offer warmer evenings, green pastures and occasional rains. The winter is dry with sunny days and clear cold evenings.

COMMUNICATIONS Titilaka offers full connectivity, including international phone service, complimentary wireless internet access as well as cellular phone coverage. We recommend contacting your cell phone provider to make sure that they offer phone coverage in Puno-Peru ELECTRICITY All electrical appliances run on 220 volts. The hotel provides electric transformers and adaptors.



WHEN TAKING PICTURES We strongly recommend these guidelines while taking pictures in Peru:

Ask for permission before filming or taking photos of individuals. In some parts of Peru, filming and photography can offend, frighten or intrude others. Other times, people in traditional dress hanging around heavily touristic areas expect you to pay them if you take their photo.

Don’t treat people as part of the landscape. They may not want their picture taken.

In rural areas, ask for permission before taking pictures through doors or windows into private homes.

PACKING LIST Weather in Puno changes very rapidly; it is advisable to wear light clothing during the day when it is sunny (shirts / T-shirts, short sleeve shirts, shorts) and warm winter clothes for the dusk outings (sweater, jacket, fleece, pants long). We also recommend using special walking shoes or hiking boots, a cap or hats, sunglasses and sunscreen when outside the hotel. The hotel is heated and casual, so feel free to use conformable clothing indoors. If you need to wash something, Titilaka offers a 24 hour room and laundry service. Every bathroom is equipped with hair dryers. You may want to bring your I-pod, every room is provided with an I-pod dock.

ARRIVAL AND TRANSPORT If you have purchased our Comprehensive Experience, upon arrival at Juliaca Airport you will be greeted by our Guest Services Representative who will drive you to Titilaka. Otherwise, please contact our concierge to help you arrange transportation to the hotel. The approximate travel time to the hotel is 90 minutes. If you arrive on the Andean Explorer train from Cusco (arriving at 18:00 pm), you will be met by our cars at the station in Puno and driven straight to the hotel on a 45 minutes ride. Other possibilities include transfer by car from Colca Canyon (Approximate time of travel: 7 hours) or from Cusco city (Approximate time of travel: 7 hours) or directly from Bolivia. MAP
