Analysis Of Lyrics:

Ohhhhhhhh! X2Yeah Yeah

things seem so far away since yesterday,

things seem so far but right here in my head,

Ohhhhhhhh! X2Yeah Yea

god, please I’m running around, take my drink and ill hit the ground,

sorry for everything, its so hard to be free,

this is so uncomfortable but needed, too many times of my life ive spent pleading,

Mention of the past, can also be a connotation of how the drastic things have changed because they are ‘far away’.

The use of repetition here creates a rhythm and pace which may alter shot or edit selections. The use of repetition also allows there to be a similarity between shot, or edit selections between the first two lines. The mention of ‘in my head’ can be interpreted in many different ways; one appealing connotation that matches the song title is that the protagonist is addicted to something and

This part of the song also fits in with the title, as there is a mention of alcohol, ‘drink’, which is a commonly noted habit or addiction. The mention of religion is significant for us because we realised how this could be the point in the song where the audience realise that the lead persona is suicidal. This is supplemented by ‘hit the ground’, which could be taken literally, as he could hit the ground, or be taken figuratively, where he is under the ground.

This links onto the previous line effectively and the same theme of suicide can be applied. This is because the mention of being ‘free’, can be interpreted as freedom from life itself, and we found that the music video may be more powerful in this direction rather than the obvious connotation that can be made from the song and its title. Furthermore, the apology at the beginning of the line is a characteristic that is common with suicide notes, as we often have seen in other forms of media and television that in suicide notes there are apologies. Thus we have included one for the lead persona who is writing it to his ex-girlfriend.

This is another line that fits our ideas for the video as the protagonist is talking about being ‘uncomfortable’, but does not talk about what is ‘needed’, thus leaving this up to our interpretation, which we have taken to mean suicide. The pause after ‘needed’ will allow us to change shots or edits as it will add to the dramatic tension in the song and scene as it will allow the audience to realise what the protagonist is actually doing. The mention of ‘life’ can contrast what our ideas for video represent as it is about death and therefore, will create more anxiety in the audience as they subconsciously realise what is going/is happening.

hoping, crying, bleeding, dying, waking up oh lord im trying,

gotta run, i gotta run its all i do nowadays, its so hard its got to end, its got to end,oh please.

Ohhhhhhhh! X3Yeah Yeah

The use of listing and more importantly commas here causes the pace in the song to increase, this will result in the tempo of the music video also increasing, thus meaning more fast edits. The use of the powerful adjectives, ‘bleeding’, ‘dying’ and ‘crying’ create more negative imagery and therefore can be said to effect the audience mood, making it more sombre. Religion is also mentioned, ‘lord’, this also enforces his desperation as he is pleading with God. Furthermore, the ad-verbs listed can also be said to represent the emotions in a relationship and the feelings and emotions associated with addictions such as drugs or alcohol.

The use of repetition continues the pace which has been created by the previous line, and is used twice in this line of the song with both ‘gotta’ and ‘end’ being repeated. The end of the song is also significant for us because our ideas have culminated and the link between this line and the protagonist being suicidal can be made. The repetition of ‘end’ can be said to follow our projected theme for the song, this coupled with the pleading once more in the last words of the verse allow us to have a clear and coherent idea on what we are going to do for the song.
