City of Prescott Airport Well #3 Equipping by Mike Young Fann Environmental was just awarded the City of Prescott’s Airport Well #3 Equipping project. FE’s bid of $2.8 million was the lowest out of seven bids. The project will begin in October and be completed by October 2014. It is practically in our backyard so there won’t be a lot of commuting or hotel expense making it a great project all the way around. This project is important because it helps the City of Prescott comply with AZ Department of Water Resources requirements. This new system will serve the northeast Prescott area south of Highway 89A/Granite Dells Park- way interchange. Water pumped from this well will directly reduce the water that is currently being pumped from the existing Chino Valley Well field. The shorter pumping dis- tance will also save on the pumping costs. The project consists of constructing and equipping a new pump house and arsenic treatment facility for Airport Well #3 just north of Ruger Road and Prescott Airport. It includes building 3200 feet of new gravel road that traverses the north side of Bottleneck Wash along with grubbing and prepping a two acre well site. The piping installation includes 341 LF of 12” DIP water main and 220 feet of 10” DIP water main. The well will have a new pump installed and will need to be developed prior to connecting to the arsenic treatment facility. The new arsenic treatment and chlorination facility will be housed in a new CMU building with a removable well house enclosure. There is a 779 feet of concrete masonry wall, a retention basin and fencing to be constructed also. Mike Young will be the Project Manager, Gary Steinmetz the Project Superintendent and William Russell as our new Underground Superintendent. In the next couple of weeks they will begin putting the crews together. A Pre- Construction Meeting was held on October 4 th . Thank you Gary Steinmetz, Gary Hackett and Gary Regnier for working so hard on estimating and ultimately winning this project for us. Bird Springs and A to E Water Booster Stations Mike Young was able to negotiate another couple projects with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA). Bird Springs is located just slightly north of Winslow, and A to E Booster is located about 15 miles north of Window Rock on the Navajo Reservation. Mike Young is the Project Manager, Mark McQueary is the Mechanical Superintendent and Gary Regnier is the Electrical Superintendent on these jobs which started the first of October. The Bird Springs project is to prepare a building pad for a new pre-cast building provided by NTUA, install underground piping for stubbing up through the floors of the new building to connect to the new booster pump skid that has also been provided by NTUA. We are will also be reinstalling the existing telemetry panel and new pump control panel. A to E Tank Booster consists of converting an existing pressure reducing station into a water booster station. We will remove the existing PRV’s and install a new booster skid provided by the NTUA. We are providing new SCADA controls for this system. At both locations there will be new electrical services, magnetic flow meters and pump control panels with VFD’s. The goal is to complete the projects as quickly as possible before the cold weather settles in. Wickenburg Airport Zone #4 BS We just finished the Wickenburg Airport Zone #4 Booster Pump Station. Employee Profile

Featured Employee: Mark McQuearyMark McQueary began working for FE in January of this year as the Mechanical Superintendent upon leaving McCarthy Building Companies Inc. He went right to work on the Lake Havasu Effluent Pump Station Improvement project and the Town of Wickenburg Zone #4 Booster Pump Station. He has also added his expertise to several other projects during his tenure with FE. Mark has spent most of his career working for companies that build

and refurbish water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Born in Hereford, Texas, Mark and his wife, Sandy, now live in Glendale, Arizona and have been married four years. Mark loves spending quality time with his wife, traveling, sports and of course being the “carrier” on Sandy’s shopping trips. They both enjoy riding Harley’s and golf. Mark has two grown sons Duane and Daniel.

Mark enjoys the diversity of his job with FE and loves the fact that he can be in on the project from the beginning to the final close out. He is eager to share his knowledge of the fundamentals of construction with each crew he works with. Mark said, “Since coming to work for FE, the people and staff are more than you could ask for. The crew wants to take a lead or learn and the staff is always ready to help. I enjoy the opportunity to be a part of a job from planning, building and finishing a job. This is a great company to work for.”

Don’t forget to get your flu shots. Flu season is upon us. There are really nasty colds and bronchial infections going around as well. ! Make sure you are covered – get your shot!

New Great-GrandsonGary and Janet Steinmetz became great-grandparents once again. They just welcomed a great-grandson Leo two weeks ago from grandson Kegan and Riley. Leo weighed 7# 7 oz and was 18” long. CONGRATULATIONS to the whole family!

SAFETY ALWAYS!by Gary Steinmetz

Fann Environmental has a strict company safety policy that is to be adhered to on every project at all times, no matter how big or small the job is by ALL personnel.

I have noticed lately, on several occasions, that some are not following these requirements. I have seen missing hardhats, missing safety vests, hard soled boots and etc. The safety requirements are in place for several reasons: 1) to protect you and those working around you; 2) to meet OSHA requirements - if an OSHA inspector should come around a job site and see workers without their personal protective equipment (PPE), the company could be slapped with a very large fine; 3) to meet our insurance requirements - if we are not in compliance our insurance rates will escalate substantially.

As per the “Welcome” booklet you were given at your orientation, you are required to wear your PPE and could be subject to dismissal for not following this safety code. Subcontractors are given the same set of guidelines to follow on the job site and can be shut down on the job until they are in compliance.

We at both Fann companies take safety seriously and we urge you to be vigilante as well. If you see someone no t wear ing sa fe ty equipment, please let them know or r e p o r t i t t o t h e s u p e r v i s o r immediately.

Christmas PartyIt’s time again to mark your calendars for the annual Christmas Party. The date is December 14th at 6:00 PM at Stoneridge Golf Course Clubhouse. We will be having a “Mardi Gras” Christmas. No need to dress up or wear masks, so don’t worry! We will have dinner, gifts, door prizes and hopefully a lot of fun! Bea, Patty and Katie have been working on the details and have come up with a few changes. So, mark your calendar and don’t miss out on the fun!

We hope to see all of you there!

A Word from Mike Young

We have recently completed several projects and I want to thank all of you for your participation and hard work. We have some very happy clients and some nice projects to show for all of your hard work. I want to especially thank Gary Regnier for his help in stepping up and taking over the completion of the Window Rock WWTP and Ganado Lift Station projects for me. The Window Rock project has been a very tough project to get wrapped up and with his help the project is now complete. We all continue to turn over rocks and seek every opportunity we can to keep everyone working and for the most part we have been successful in doing so. The Job Order Contracting (JOC) projects have been keeping us busy until the larger projects come along, and we are very thankful for them. JOC projects are directly related to our positive long-term relationships built from hard work resulting in high quality projects and provide a great value for our clients. Our motto of “Each job sells the next job” rings true with JOC projects. The City of Page, Town of Clarkdale, NTUA and Town of Wickenburg projects were all negotiated fee projects. We were directly selected to perform the necessary task at hand without those agencies having to prepare documents to go out for a competitive hard bid. The JOC’s for the most part are smaller Design-Build projects that have had values up to as much as $350,000.00. We are also expanding our Contract O&M projects. We recently added Highland Pines WID and Estancia de Prescott to the current list of clients, with a couple more considering our services. Highland Pines has already proven to be a bit of a challenge with a couple of water-main breaks within the first couple of weeks. We also are the apparent low bidder for the City of Prescott’s Annual Potholing contract, so there is more potholing work coming up to keep the Vactor busy. Everybody is involved in our success. Regardless of what job you are doing, it has a direct effect on the job you will be doing tomorrow. If we do our best to be the safest, most efficient and productive workforce producing the highest quality product possible – we will continue to be busy. As we start getting busier over the next few months, it is imperative that you help do your part in reaching our goals as being the best at all times. If you see anything that can be improved, please talk to your supervisor and bring it to their attention. If it is found to save time and/or costs and can be implemented, it will be. Everybody has an interest in the profitability of the company. Remember everything we do makes a difference in whether we have a year end bonus or not.
