City Code Section 2-611; ordinance adopted May 28, 1996 which repealed Section 2-611 through 2-614 which created the Juvenile Detention Advisory Board; Amended Ordinance 6/25/13 to Sections 2-611, 2-612, and 2-613

Appointments shall be for a term of four years each, except that appointments to fill vacancies that occur during terms shall be for the remainder of these unexpired terms. Appointments to fill unexpired terms shall not be considered full terms, and such persons shall be eligible to be appointed to two consecutive full terms. No person shall serve more than two consecutive full terms. The Director of the Department of Human Services shall serve as an ex officio member, without vote.

The Committee shall be appointed by Council and shall consist of five members and two alternates as follows: (1) One member with a technical background, such as an engineer or architect; (2) One member that is a principal, officer, or owner of a business; (3) One member and one alternate who have a financial background; (4) One resident at large; and (5) One member and one alternate who are licensed to practice law in Virginia. One representative each from the Office of the City Manager, the City Attorney's Office and the Department of Public Works shall serve as ex officio members for the purpose of providing assistance to the committee. The ex officio members of the committee shall be appointed by the City Manager, the City Attorney and the Director of Public Works, respectively, and shall not be voting members of the committee. Members may serve on one additional board.
