The Department of Posts isplanning to open post shopsnext month in 11 post offices inthe city including the head postoffice in T. Nagar and sub postoffice in Ashok Nagar whichwill sell a host of stationeryitems.

The post shops will also havephotocopiers and spiral bind-ing facility.

The other post shops will bein the GPO, other head postoffices including Park Town,St. Thomas Mount and Myla-pore, and sub post office inAnna Nagar.

The facility was introducedin Adyar post office more thana year ago and it is being run bya private player. While a few ofthe 11 proposed facilities willbe given to private players, therest will be operated by postalstaff.

According to M. S. Ramanu-jam (Post Master General,

Chennai region), the size of theshops will differ depending onthe space available in the postoffices. The post shop to be setup in the GPO will also haveinternet facility.

The department will also in-troduce 15 varieties of cus-

tomised envelopes which willbe sold in the post shops. Thewater proof envelopes will comein various sizes which can beused for domestic and interna-tional mailing. These envelopeswill have foam and bubble lay-ers to suit various products.
