SUMMARY OF CAREER GOAL
I am a firm believer in the fact
that you should only try to master one
thing at a time and this is why I have
stuck to construction for twenty-two
years.
I have obtained my A.S., in
construction management from
Westwood College and I am already in
the mindset of researching avenues to
pursue Masters Programs.
Construction management is the
next level in my professional growth and
considering Masters Programs will solidify
the growth I hope to achieve. The
avenues I am currently considering
include, Urban Planning, Structural or Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, and construction law.
Once I have achieved my Masters depending on where I am in my life I will most likely pursue a doctrine
in similar fields and eventually teach others.
My career goals as they stand for the present are to work in construction management and
utilize the classroom education in combination with the field experience to the benefit of a prospective
employer. I believe that I can be an asset to any company, not only because I am qualified but because I
am already primed in a global mindset which is the best direction for any organization. I am good with
people in that my people skills allow me to motivate crews to give their all throughout the duration of
the project. As a carpenter I am not afraid to get dirty so any perspective employer can rest assure that
the perspective manager will be in the hole making sure the project is safe, on time, and under budget.

Construction Carpenter Certificate from the Department of Labor
The greatest of my achievements to date is when I graduated from apprenticeship and
became a Journeyman Carpenter. It is sublime in a way that symbolizes the point where a boy
becomes a man and he is ready to make his mark on the world. The next step is to add the
Bachelors of Applied Science degree to the collection. This will signify the mark I hope to make
and establish its character.

Journeyman Certificate from the United Brotherhood of Carpenter & Joiners of America
The Journeyman Certificate shows my dedication and perseverance to endure the unknown
and achieve things unseen. It also shows the willingness to belong to something of a greater
magnitude as well as being a member of a team.

EDUCATIONAL STATEMENT
I started my approach to construction in high school at Hyde Park Career Academy in
woodshop. I basically built a scale model home by myself which was an early indication that
construction would be demanding. This did not deter me from pursuing a career as a carpenter.
I later attended the Job Corps program in Laona, Wisconsin where I would hone my skills
as a pre-apprentice carpenter. Being a part of an elite carpentry crew our group was allowed to
travel abroad and build ranger stations for the Nicolet Forest Reserves. I graduated there with
honors and went to college in an Advancement program in Clearfield, Utah where I studied
Architectural Technology.
I later returned to that same Job Corps program to become certified as an electrician.
Being an elite member I was allowed to work for a local contractor and experience the field
work while training. While there I became president of the Student Government Association
where we allocated certain funding to the benefit of the entire student body. I also while there
received awards for leader of the year and most improved leader of the year.
After attending multiple city colleges and not really knowing which direction I wanted to
pursue in academia I saw a Westwood College Advertisement. This organization appealed to my
desire to remain in the service industry by marketing their construction management program.
I was immediately onboard and as giddy as a child in a big box toy store.
As I prepare to close in on my graduation I am more informed about the directions my
career can take me to and I am grateful. Westwood is a learning experience unlike any other
than has truly prepared me for what may lie ahead in my academic and professional future.
Knowledge is power and with my Westwood degree I will be prepared to take on more
responsibility and be a more productive member of the construction community.

This bridge was completely reconstructed by IHC (Illinois Hydraulic Construction) where I was involved
in the shoring and framing of this orthotropic beam bridge which are modular shaped and resist stress in
multiple directions at once. They vary in
cross-section and may be open or closed
shapes. This particular one is open and it
was a magnificent experience to work on
infrastructure.

1500 SF Basement Renovation
This was a self-performed project for a home owner in Matteson, IL that came to me and asked me to
design their basement. So I drafted the exterior outline of the basement and designed and installed the
wall layout, the additional load factors on the existing load center as well as the lighting arrangement. I
also contributed to the finishes from paint colors to the tile on the floor. This project is what motivated
me to take construction management because everything from the planning to the execution to the
delivery came so natural.
