    FreshmenPlease submit the following items to the Officeof Admission:

    1. A non-refundable, $50 application fee in the

    form of a check or money order (payable toSt. Johns University) should accompany theApplication for Undergraduate Admission.Please write your name and social securitynumber on the check or money order.

    2. Official high school transcripts or officialGeneral Equivalency Diploma and score reportmust be forwarded directly to the AdmissionProcessing Service Center as soon as possible.

    3. Official SAT or ACT score reports must beforwarded directly to the Admission Processing

    Service Center as soon as possible. The Universitycode for the Queens and Manhattan campuses is2799; for the Staten Island campus, it is 2845. TheACT code for the Queens and Manhattan campusesis 2888; for the Staten Island campus, it is 2844.

    4. St. Johns strongly encourages students to provideus with:

    A. A letter of recommendation from your collegeadvisor (seeRecommendation for High SchoolSeniors on page 12 of this booklet). Decisionsmaybe made without this document. However,

    the Admission Committee reserves the rightto require a letter of recommendation atits discretion.

    B.A 250-word, typewritten personal statement oressay on a topic of your choice. If you chooseto submit a personal statement, please offersome explanation of your current career goals,information about honors and awards youhave received and/or other activities in whichyou have engaged in order to provide us witha clear, personal profile of your pursuits andinterests beyond the classroom.

    5. If you have not enrolled in school for a semesteror more, you must submit a written statementoutlining your activities during that time.

    Readmit Students

    A readmit student is one who attended St. JohnsUniversity as a matriculated student for one ormore semesters, has not been registered for one ormore consecutive semesters and has not attended

    another college or university. In addition tocompleting the application for admission, studentsseeking readmission must submit a personalstatement describing their activities while they werenot enrolled in school. Students who matriculatedat St. Johns then attended another college oruniversity are considered transfer students.

    Transfer StudentsStudents who were enrolled or are currently enrolledat another college or university and are seekingadmission to St. Johns are considered transferstudents. In addition, any student who was previouslyenrolled at St. Johns, left the University and attendedanother institution is considered a transfer student.Transfer students must submit the following items.

    1. Official secondary school record. If you have beeneducated in a country other than the United States,please submit original academic records or copiesthat are certified/attested to by the institution(s)with an official school seal. Transcripts/marksheetsfor all years of study are required. Photocopies thatare not certified/attested to by the originalinstitution are not acceptable. Credentials issued ina language other than English must beaccompanied by a certified English translation.

    2. Official certificates/results from the Ministry ofEducation (if applicable).

    3. Official examination results, if taken, directlyfrom the examining board (Baccalaureate,Caribbean Examinations Council, GeneralCertificate of Education, Hong Kong Certificateof Education, West African ExaminationCouncil, etc.).

    4. Official university/post-secondary records, ifattended. In addition, applicants seekingadmission to the College of Pharmacy and AlliedHealth Programs who have attended a universityor post-secondary institution outside the United

    8. Students wishing to be considered for anacademic scholarship must submit SAT orACT scores.

    9. The application deadline for international studentsis May 1 for the fall semester and November 1 forthe spring semester.

    Distance LearningApplicants to the Distance Learning program mustcomplete the Application for Undergraduate

    Admission but are not required to complete thesections regarding Housing or Family Information.In addition to a completed application, applicants tothe Distance Learning program must also submittheir official high school transcript, an officialcollege/university transcript, if applicable, apersonal statement describing their motivation toattend St. Johns University as well as the results ofthe ACT, SAT or Accuplacer exam. If you do nothave ACT or SAT results and would like to schedulean appointment to take the Accuplacer exam at theSt. Johns campus or at a testing center near you,please contact Elizabeth Alexander at (718) 990-2353 or [email protected]. The Accuplacerexam is not meant to replace the ACT or SAT.

    DeadlinesSt. Johns University operates on a rollingadmission basis for most programs, but priorityis given to those who apply by February 1.Please note that certain deadlines do exist forthe following. International students seeking fall admission

    are asked to submit their application by May 1.International students seeking spring admissionare asked to submit their applications byNovember 1.

    Completed Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) applications,including supporting documents, must bereceived by February 1. Decisions will be mailedon or about March 1. Pharm.D. applicants arestrongly encouraged to submit an essayindicating why they wish to study Pharmacy andany relevant experiences they have working in apharmacy or healthcare setting. This major isopen only to new freshmen.

    Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) applicants interested inthe Priority Pharmacy deadline must submittheir application for admission along with all

    supporting documents by December 1.Decisions for applications which are completedby December 1 will be mailed on or aroundJanuary 15. Applicants accepted to the Pharmacy(Pharm.D.) program through the PriorityPharmacy deadline must submit their enrollmentdeposit by May 1. This major is open only tonew freshmen.

    Students seeking admission to a B.F.A. programin fine arts, graphic design, creativephotography, or illustration are required tosubmit an appropriate art portfolio by February

    15. Upon submission of a completed admissionapplication, the student will be asked to contactthe Department of Fine Arts to schedule aportfolio review.

    Transfer Students interested in the PhysicianAssistant program should submit their admissionapplication by March 1 for fall semesterenrollment and by October 15 for springsemester enrollment.

    Student housing is available on a first-come,first-served basis according to the most currentUniversity housing policies. These policies maychange without notice based on demand. Westrongly advise students to submit theircompletedApplication for UndergraduateAdmission, indicating their interest in on-campus

    housing, by February 1 for the fall semester.Students must reapply for housing each yearusing the appropriate residential life form.

    Important Information Students majoring in Risk Management and

    Actuarial Science complete the last two years oftheir courses on our Manhattan campus.

    The Biology/Optometry (B.S./O.D.),Biology/Podiatric Medicine (B.S./D.P.M.), andPhysical Science/Biomedical Engineering(B.S./M.S.) are highly competitive programs.Qualified students can earn a B.S. in Biologyfrom St. Johns and an O.D. from the SUNYSchool of Optometry in seven years. Qualifiedstudents can earn a B.S. in Biology from St.Johns and a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine fromthe N.Y. College of Podiatric Medicine in sevenyears. Qualified students can also graduate infive years with a B.S. in Physical Science fromSt. Johns and an M.S. in BiomedicalEngineering from Polytechnic University. TheB.S./O.D. and B.S./D.P.M. programs areavailable only to freshmen and are foracademically superior students. An interview is

    required. Seats are limited.

    WaitlistsSt. Johns maintains an admissions waitlist forstudents who are not immediately accepted.Waitlisted students are encouraged to submit anynew information such as updated test scores, gradesor letters of recommendation in support of theirapplication. St. Johns University adheres to thewaitlist principles and guidelines outlined in theNational Association for College AdmissionCounselings Statement of Principles of

    Good Practice.

    Financial Aid and ScholarshipsAll entering students seeking consideration forfinancial aid must file theFree Application forFederal Student Aid (FAFSA). The St. Johns FAFSA

    Medical RequirementsNew York State Public Health Law 2165 requires allstudents who were born on or after January 1, 1957,to be immunized against measles, mumps and rubella.Students must submit documentation oftwo doses ofthe measles and one dose of the mumps and rubella

    vaccine before classes begin. All immunizations musthave been received after 1967 and after your firstbirthday. You will not be permitted to register forclasses without the proper documentation.

    St. Johns University is in compliance with NewYork State Public Health Law 2167, which requiresALL students attending colleges and universities inNew York State to be given information relating toimmunization against meningococcal meningitis.

    The University requires a recent physicalexamination (within one year of admission)including a diphtheria-tetanus booster and

    tuberculin skin test.3
