ADS, Inc.Machine ShopMany of you know, ADS, Inc. has been in the

turbocharger and fuel injection business for over 45 years. Not only do we sell new products from OEM’s such as BorgWarner, Holset, Garrett, Bosch, Stanadyne, and Denso (along with many others) but we also remanufacture and custom build turbochargers, fuel injection pumps and injectors. Very early on, Val Leefers,

President of ADS, Inc., realized the need to invest in specific equipment designed for the precise machining of parts in order to insure our remanufactured parts were being rebuilt to ‘like-new’, and in many cases, better than new, condition.

After a dozen or so years, this investment in equipment had begun to create a bit of an issue at the ADS headquarters. We were flat out of room! So

in 1990, the decision was made to expand to the west and add on a dedicated machine shop. Well, I think you can guess what happened next... now we had more room for machines! Over the years we’ve made many more investments in tooling, mills, lathes, etc. And today our Machine Shop Manager, Gary Harding,

has equipment he never dreamed of when he started his career with ADS.

Staffing the machine shop is a team of skilled and dedicated employees that, combined,

have over 70 years of experience in design and fabrication work. Assisting Gary with the daily duties are Dusty Ribble, Jimmy Mathis, and

Terry Borkgren III. Together, this team is responsible for machining everything from bearing housings and compressor covers to fuel injection pump housings, governor covers and head & rotor assemblies for both the turbo department and fuel shop on a daily basis. Once turbochargers are torn down, the parts are cleaned up and sent to the machine shop before they ever make it back to the build-up area to be used in the remanufacturing process. This ensures that the parts being used by our technicians for rebuilt turbochargers are well within the necessary tolerances for use. The machine shop can handle the basic processes such as straightening turbine shafts, balancing wheel assemblies, and honing bearing housings, but they can also cut wheel pockets to fit larger wheels, machine flanges to fit different intake and exhaust connections or in some cases, they will even machine parts of different turbochargers to work together to build a custom unit for everything from daily use to tractor and truck pulling applications.

The ADS Machine Shop has been integral in the development of several custom projects

such as our CAPS Kit, Big Horn Turbochargers, T04B Rajay Replacement, AGCO Turbo Replacement Kit, Magnum Specialty Tools, Oliver Turbo Kit and many more! These guys are also responsible for bringing to market our manifold adapters, exhaust flanges, heat shields, bearings, backplates, speed sensor kits and many more custom products sold under the ATA product line. In the fuel injection world, they cut barrel & plungers, machine governor housings and weights, cut delivery valves and rebuild head & rotor assemblies along with a myriad of other services. They were also instrumental in the design and on-going production of our remanufactured VP44 pump housing that

includes many design improvements over the original housing.

After more than 35 years of dedicated service, Lynn Emery has chosen to retire from

Area Diesel Service.

Lynn began his career with ADS in September of 1983. He spent the

majority of his career working in our Inside Sales Department while also assisting with purchasing, shipping and receiving duties along with a myriad of other tasks throughout the years. His dedication to always putting the customer first was obvious to all who had the pleasure of working with him. Lynn is the kind of person that makes others around him want to be better, to do better. His hard working attitude and positive outlook on life put him in a class all by himself. His many contributions to ADS and his

witty sense of humor will be missed by us all. Please join us in wishing Lynn Emery a happy and healthy retirement!! A
