Printers● Printers are able to make copies of text or

pictures onto paper and textiles.

Timeline of the Pre-Industrial Age

618-910The first known record of printing used was wood block printing.

1241Koreans create the first movable cast print type to print books.

1457The first book printed in more than one color.

1465Drypoint engraving, a new printing technique, was invented by the Germans.

1450Johaness Gutenberg created a prototype for a movable type printing press.

1702The first English language daily newspaper is published under the name ‘Daily Courant’.

Timeline of the Industrial Age

1891Printing presses print and fold 90,000 4-page papers an hour.Diazotype has been invented.

1947The first phototypesetter had been invented called ‘The Fotosetter’.

1907Commercial silk screen printing had been invented.

1846Cylinder press was an improved printing press that could print 8000 pages an hour.

1878Photogravure printing was invented by Karl Kilc.

1892The 4-color rotary press is invented.
