IntegrationWith OS X and built-in support for a wide range of network infrastructures, Mac can integrate seamlessly into enterprise environments—often without changes to IT and business processes. With a few simple settings, IT departments can configure Mac to give employees secure access to key enterprise resources like corporate email, calendars, and contacts. And a range of integration options let employees take advantage of many other OS X benefits.

Mac fits easily in Active Directory environments, ranging from the most basic to the most detailed integration environments. IT departments have the option to join Mac computers to Active Directory manually using built-in tools in OS X. Or they can automate the process using configuration profiles that can be built with OS X Server Profile Manager or MDM applications. And IT can leverage Active Directory to authenticate users and enforce password policies for all computers within the organization.

OS X also includes native support for Microsoft Exchange. Setup is as easy as typing in a user’s email address and password. So Mac users can use the same Exchange data for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, and Reminders as they do for other Exchange-compatible clients, including Outlook. Technologies built into OS X help the Mac connect to secure networks, authenticate users and systems, quarantine and validate incoming files, and protect data in transit. With support for WPA2 Enterprise wireless networking, OS X ensures secure connectivity with Wi-Fi networks. It also includes advanced enterprise VPN technologies such as per-app and on-demand connections and integrates with many popular authentication methods. Files downloaded from Safari, Mail, and Messages are screened to determine if they contain dangerous malware in disguise. With configuration profiles, a wide variety of settings can be controlled and configured on OS X, including directory service binding, 802.1X configuration, and certificate distribution to Mac management. Configuration profiles allow IT administrators to set management policies that provide granular control of features, preferences, and restrictions on Mac systems. When integrated with an MDM solution, configuration profiles can be wirelessly distributed to Mac systems. This streamlines the process of securing and configuring Mac computers, as well as installing and managing applications.
