Akio Morita • Made in Japan : Akio Morita and Sony is an autobiography of
Akio Morita, the co-founder and former chairman of Sony Corporation.
• It was written with the assistance of Edwin M. Reingold and Mitsuko Shimomura.
• The book narrates about: The story of Morita Sony Corporation's formation after Japan's brutal defeat in
World War II The Japanese way of thinking particularly their business
management philosophies and styles.

• A broad minded family background brought the western culture closer.

• Contribution toward rebuilding his country from the ashes of the war.
• His family wanted him to be in his traditional business.• On May 7, 1946, Morita and Ibuka founded Tokyo
Telecommunications Engineering Corporation .• Morita's family invested in Sony during the early period and
was the largest shareholder.• The company developed magnetic recording tape , a pocket-
sized radio and etc.• In 1958, Morita and Ibuka decided to rename their company
Sony.

• Moritas marketing concept was brand name that would communicate high product quality.
• Marketing is really a form of communication. • Introduction of walkman. • Wanted to project ‘Made in Japan`as benchmark of
quality.• Shifted to USA for Sony company.
