“THE SEcRET OF THE TRANcOSO’S ARK”
Inspired by the universe of intangible cultural heritage of Portuguese oral tales, the play “The Secret of the Trancoso’s Ark” tells the story of a child, who like any other child, suddenly sees himself with the responsibility of guarding a mysterious wooden ark, full of powers, desired by thieves and even supernatural creatures, which when opened it reveals different contents for different people.
The author of this play, Luiz Felipe Botelho, recovers the expression “stories of Trancoso,” which date back to over 400 years ago, shortly after arriving in Brazil a few copies of the literary work by the Portuguese Gonçalo Fernandes Trancoso. Starting from this storyteller’s name, the author creates an amusing and enchantment story with various notes/records on human nature itself.
From October 1 to 11, this play goes through various cultural areas venues of Madeira Archipelago, such as: Machico, Porto Santo, Funchal and calheta.

“THE MISER” BY MOLIÈRE
After the “Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare, the “Teatro Experimental do Funchal” (TEF) returns with another classic: “The Miser” by the French playwright Molière, in a new and updated version of this 17th century comedy.
With this brand new play TEF aims to make its audiences laugh and think at the same time, have fun and pose relevant questions. According to its director “The Miser” travels through humour without becoming undemanding or too simple, it’s instructive without falling into plain erudition, and it’s provocative without being insolent.
The play uses “theatre as a tool for understanding ourselves and the world during one hour and ten minutes of pure joy”.
The actors are unfolded repeatedly in multiple characters so that the engine may continue running.
“The Miser” offers meetings and disagreements, misunderstandings and grotesque behaviours flavoured by other characters, in a comedy that insists on being timeless, satirizing certain human vices and bizarre behaviours, with a particular emphasis on the excessive ambition for money.

“THE ENcHANTED GARDEN”
“The enchanted garden” by Luís Filipe Pessoa e costa
expresses stories through canvas. Stories to be seen and lived
with no sound, however, with plenty of action, colour and
imagination.
This set of twenty paintings provides an entry into a
children’s universe, in which interaction and dreams are
present and permitted.
The artist aims of children to become a part of this
“enchanted garden”, where each canvas tells a story that begins
and ends in the same painting. Along with the exhibition, it’s
possible to attend, simultaneously, an installation that grants
our younger ones with the possibility of entering a world of
fantasy, in which they may enjoy themselves and share several
play-tricks.
