ISSUES AND CHALLENGES (To be continued) Improper water pricing one of the main reasons for inefficient use by industry Cost of damages in polluting ground and surface water ignored in tariff determination Lack of effective co ordination amongst regulatory bodies Multiplicity of authorities with different mandates MOWR ( Water resource) principal agency responsible for water in India but water pollution and Industrial water not in purview3 4. ISSUES AND CHALLENGES (To be continued) MOI (Industry)concerned with planning and development of water resources for Industrial use. No mandate to control or regulate water use by Industries CGWB(Ground water Board) map ground water status. No mandate to charge for ground water CPCB/SPCB regulate industrial water pollution and charge water cess based on the amount of waste water discharged but no mandate to control sourcing of water from various sources4 5. EFFECT Water conservation not a significant success Rivers and Lakes are highly polluted Ground water severe depletion5 6. WATER PRICING WATER PRICINGPrice, to promote efficient use.Every State to establish a water tariff systemPowers to collect water charges by Water User AssociationsRecycle and reuse of water through a properly planned tariff systemHeavy under pricing to be revised 6 7. PROBABLE SOLUTION Implementation of Aquifer policy to restrict ground water usage Emphasis on Recycle and Reuse through regulation and incentives Desalination a probable option for Coastal industry belt Proper co ordination amongst Ministries and regulatory bodies Institutions like MCCI not to stop here7 8.
