Use Lumin with Estante

This document contains instructions on how to export your Lumin Pak into Estante. Estante

(www.maf.org/estante) is a digital library that makes it easy for people to store and share digital

resources, offline. Lumin is a software program for creating courses, eBooks, presentations, and other

content—called ‘Paks’. For more information about Lumin, visit www.maf.org/lumin.

A second option for exporting and sharing your Pak is to upload your content directly into the digital

library app called Estante. You can only use this feature if you already have Estante installed on a mobile

device (smartphone or tablet).

Follow the steps below to upload your Pak to Estante.

First, you can simply click the Upload Lumin Pak to Estante button in the main toolbar, in the upper left

hand of the project screen.

(Or you can click Package in the menu bar at the top of the project screen, select Export from the

dropdown menu that appears, then click Upload Lumin Pak to Estante.)

When you click Upload Lumin Pak to Estante, almost immediately a small pop-up window will appear to

let you know the Lumin Pak was processed. Click OK. Then the Upload to Estante form will appear. You

will see that the Title box will automatically fill with the name of your Pak, which will normally match

your project name. (Note: The Pak name would differ from the project name, however, if you changed

the project name in the Project Explorer in Lumin and did not also change the package name just below

it.)

What to do before clicking Upload:

1. First you will need to make sure that your computer and your mobile device are on the same

WiFi network.

2. Next you will want to find for your device's IP address. Lumin needs this number in order to

send your Pak directly to the correct device. (You could think of it sort of like an email address or

a cellphone number. The IP address is a number string separated by a periods. No period at the

end of the string. For example: 192.168.185.300 or 192.168.0.1) The IP address will be found in

your mobile device's Settings in the same place where you find the other wireless/network

information. (For more tips on finding your WiFi network and IP address, go to the next page

called Find WiFi network and IP address.)

3. Enter the number you find into the IP Address box in the Upload to Estante form.

4. Open Estante on your mobile device (so Lumin can send the content to it). Otherwise you will

get a message saying that it couldn't connect.

5. Now you are ready to click Upload.

When you are finished with the form, you will need to click the Done button (in the bottom right corner)

to dismiss it.

Your Lumin Pak in Estante:

Depending on the size of your Lumin Pak and the speed of your WiFi network, etc., the upload process

could take some time. You will see a progress bar, indicating that the process is continuing. When the

upload is complete, a small pop-up window will appear telling you that the transfer succeeded.

Once the upload is complete, you should find your Pak within the Estante digital library app under

Courses.

If you wish, before uploading, on the Upload to Estante form, you can change the location/category to

which your Pak is sent within Estante. In the middle of the form you will see the Resource Type with the

default of Courses selected in the box to the right of that. You could, for instance, select Books instead.

If you have uploaded your Pak to Estante before, a pop-up window will appear asking you if you want to

overwrite/update your Pak in Estante. If you do not want to overwrite it, you could rename the Pak (on

the Upload to Estante form) so that you send a second version to Estante.

When you do overwrite/update a Pak in Estante, you will need to refresh your Estante screen before

you will see any changes you've made. You can do so by going back to the Estante main menu and then

going back into Courses again to find your Pak (doing so will refresh the Courses screen).
