FRONT COVER Colour –

The colour used in the front cover is a mix between purple and red. Red has been used as the cover lines and masthead which stands out bold and strong, with this magazine Q they use the same Mast Head, this is not uncommon however Q do it in such a way which makes it feel the same, this can be good or bad as the same is not always good but anyone who has ever seen a Q would be able to tell you again where it comes from. Red stands out as it is used to signify danger and warns people to be on alert. Purple is used in the front cover, this could have been because the model happened to be wearing purple or that they wanted to have a calm relaxed feel, purple is seen in psychology as a deep colour with spiritual meaning. This is going to far, Q could have just been picking two colours which have nice match.

FRONT COVER Design –

The magazine cover has a complex composition, its design has been done in such a way that the image makes it so that the cover lines makes it busy especially since Q magazines have top 3rd left 3rd is taken up by the logo. This does not seem like a large space but as a consumer I feel its somewhat overpowering the whole cover, it feels like the masthead is fighting with the cover lines which makes it very busy but with it being busy is what caught my attention.

FRONT COVER Image/Model –

The image itself is of a female model mid shot and a direct gaze. The model has cloths suits the background which does not create contrast and makes it pop out less which gives the image less attention however this is a clever choice made by the designer as the image takes up a lot of space then having it give less impact makes It easier to read the cover lines

FRONT COVER Distribution –

Bauer media group are the publishers for the Q magazine who have also published kerrang and a lot of other well-known media products. This is a UK brand but I’m not sure if they distribute outside the UK

FRONT COVER Language –

The cover page’s cover lines aren’t really interesting for me(some may enjoy) but what I enjoy the most is the strap line, “THE WORLD’S GREATEST MUSIC MAGAZINE” which we know isn’t true but any magazine who has the confidence to pull this off must have something to back it up right? Which is the reason why I bought it. So good job Q you got a customer just because of your strapline. That was actually true which really only stresses how important language can be on/in a magazine.

CONTENTS Colour/Design –

So the contents page uses a multitude of colours, most basic colours are used. Because of this I feel it hasn’t got a colour scheme which is for me the best part but this makes it feel like an indie magazine, I know colour cant really define a genre but if I were to give a scheme to the contents page of this magazine it would be indie. This is because of the random chilled and pop(not music genre, just how the colours pop on the page) look.

CONTENTS Image/model –

The images/models for the contents page have been used to represent what is going to be on the affiliated pages. For an example I will use the first image which is page 8. The image is of a band which I imagine is MUSE as that’s what the title is. Its of a band playing on stage which clearly demonstrates what the band is about.

CONTENTS Language –

The language is pretty plain on the contents page with articles in bold with folios next to them with a brief summary of them under, it doesn’t do anything to make it great but it has a simplistic side to it along with the colours and folio look makes it look simplistic abstract art which is cool.

DPS Colour/design –

The design of this is mainly comprised of a huge image which takes most of the dps and attracts our attention. The colour of this is red black and white which creates contrast for the image making it pop out and each individual thing(Article/image/Titles) are easy to see and read.

DPSImage/model –

The image shows a band playing on a stage/concert, it really just a straight forward image which perfectly matches the text/article. There are also two more images of the concert again and a line for the club/concert.

DPS Language –

The dps uses a number of pull quotes, a Q&A, drop caps and headlines. All of these make it very easy to read it all s it breaks down the page to easy to read sections with text in columns. Besides from that the text is quite dull in a sense that its not really standing out as its just a big body of text. This can cause readers to avoid long text if they are not a fan of that sort of thing.
