2012FROM IWA CHAIRMAN’S DESK IWA will discuss the application of its blue print for Ndi-igbo as stated below:
1. The application of the twin principles of Njikoka(synergy) and Igba Izu (Flexibility/Collaboration/Dialogue/Diplomacy). and not Nzogbu Nzogbu(force) strategy;
2. Therapy and healing for our “Igbo Enwe Eze Syndrome” (Indi-vidualism vs. consensus/collective strategy politically speaking).
3. We need diversification of strategies so as to have several op-tions
4. Broader definition of Ndi Igbo to include all our brothers and sisters at home and in diaspora
5. We need to work for the interest of Ndi-Igbo first and then the interest of Nigeria or any political parties.
6. We always need to remember that we are the largest ethnic group in Nigeria and Africa
7. Elected and appointed federal offices commensurate with the large size of Ndi-igbo as the largest ethnic group in Nigeria and Africa.
8. Alliances with other groups must be key, regardless of the fear of a hidden Igbo agenda for domination
9. Collaboration and cooperation with other ethnic groups particu-larly the Northern and Southern minorities
10. There is a need to restructure Nigeria to ensure true federalism
11. There is a need for equity in state creation within the geo-political arrangement in the country
12. To insist that Electrical Power, International Airport, Major federal Roads and Second Niger bridge should be built in the zone
13. To fight self inflicted injuries – corruption ,lack of meritocracy at all levels, unprecedented in education

Igbo World Assembly (IWA) welcomes you to its 2012 Convention that includes a high level interactive session. The theme is the Actualisation of Igbo Agenda and Youth Empowerment in the South Eastern and South-South parts of Nigeria. The venue is Nelrose Hotel, Government House Road, Asaba, Delta State Nigeria and is taking place between September 26th - 27th 2012.
IWA is the Umbrella Organization that repre-sents the Apex National Igbo Organizations (outside Nigeria) in the various countries of the world such as USA, UK, France, Spain, Finland, Netherland, Ireland, India, Ghana, Dubai, Pakistan, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Russia, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden and Canada. The Igbo World Assembly (IWA) works very closely and recognizes Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo as the mouthpiece of Ndi-Igbo World Wide.
The Igbo World Assembly, is the only bona fide, inter-continental, Igbo Advocacy group of its kind founded on May 19, 2008, and represents a committed attempt to truly perfect a Global Igbo Union. IWA is founded on the twin principles of Njikoka and Igba Izu (synergy and collaboration) and we are committed to working with, collaborating with, partnering with all genuine Igbo politi-cal, economic and social expression vehicles. By presenting a platform to leverage Igbo Diaspora as a strategic partner on Igbo is-sues, we aim to advance the Igbo agenda as never before done in our post-war history.
Our goal is clear, Ndi-Igbo must speak with one voice and one accord; we must seek to do and be done equitably, by all means expedient or warranted; we must wage struggles as necessary; we must conclude peace as always necessary; we must estab-lish and prosper our economies; we must promote our welfare; we must tell our stories; and we must celebrate our culture and history.
This is IWA’s commitment to Igbo lead-ers and friend of Ndiigbo who share our vision to attain and perfect that elusive global Igbo Union. It is in that light that IWA wishes to use the event of our convention to introduce our platform, to seek program partners, to assemble committed Igbo lead-ers, and to reflect on how to leverage Igbo’s Diaspora presence as a new instrument in the struggle against Igbo enemies.

True democracy and freedom is what we want for ourselves as NdiIgbo, Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Our history in Nigeria clearly shows that NdiIgbo have always stood for democracy and fair play for all. We do not believe or promote religious based politics and ideology. We want a Nigeria where the majority’s right are balanced with the minority’s right. We want a Nigeria where the various ethnic groups feel that they have a stake in the future of the country. We envision a Nigeria where leadership is based on the ability to work hard, where fairness reigns with a sense of direc-tion and accountability to the various groups and for the common good of the country. We envision a Nigeria where people can vote and be voted for everywhere. We believe in meritocracy, a system that gives opportunities and advan-tages to people on the basis of their ability and not on the basis of their wealth or seniority. Our clear and firm pursuit to being the best we can be betrays our refusal to accept mediocrity.
IWA’S BLUE PRINT FOR NDI-IGBO
The convention will deal with matters that threaten our security and long-term prosperity as stated below:
1. To Reposition Ndi-Igbo politically and seeking POLITICAL EQUITY.
2. To Reposition and Regenerate the South East Geo-Political Zone.
3. Economically and supporting the actualisation of South Eastern Nigerian Economic Commission (SENEC)
4. Attract “genuine” foreign investors to SE & SS in the field of Technology, Healthcare and Social Services
5. Agriculture and Food Security: Food sufficiency and production is a necessity. We need to be able to be self-sufficient in food production.
6. Work assiduously for the creation of more states in South-East and South-South.
7. Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition
8. Security of South East and South South Geo Political Zones.
9. Cultural heritage.-Maintain language and propagate our Igbo culture.

Delta is an oil producing state of Nigeria situated in the region known as the Niger Delta, South-South Geo-political zone with a population of 4,098,291 (Males: 2,674,306 Females: 2,024,085 The capital city is Asaba located at the northern end of the state with an estimated area of 762 km2,while Warri is economic nerve of the state and also the most populated located in the southern end of the state. Delta State is a state in Nigeria, comprising mainly Urhobo, Isoko, Igbo (Anioma), Ijaw and Itsekiri. The whole ethnic-groups that com-prise the Delta are administratively grouped into three senatorial dis-tricts namely Delta North, Delta South and Delta Central for easy ad-ministrative purposes.

ABIA STATEAbia State was carved out of the former Imo State in 1991.
The name ‘Abia’ is an abbreviation of four of the states densely populated region of aba, Bende, Isikwuato, and Afikpo. It is one of the 36 states that constitute the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Abia people are of the Igbo ethnic group who predominates much of the Southeast-ern part of Nigeria. Their language is Igbo, English is widly spoken and serves as the official language in governance, and business.
Abia’s 2.4 million people are mainly christians. They are intrepreneurial, known and reputed to be industrious, highly market oriented, very hospitable and accommodating.

ANAMBRA STATEAnambra is a state in Southeastern Nigeria. Its name is anglicized ver-sion of the original ‘Oma Mbala’, name of the river now known as Ana-mbra, and which the state is named after. The capital and seat of gov-ernment is Awka. Onitsha and Nnewi are the biggest commercial and industrial cities respectively. The stae’s theme is ‘Light Of The Nation’ Boundaries are formed by Delta State to the west, Imo and Rivers State to the south, Enugu State to the East, and Kogi State to the north.

Ebonyi State is a mainland Southeastern state of Nigeria, inhabited and populated primarily by Igbo of Southeastern nigeria. Its capital and largest city is Abakaliki. Afikpo is the second largest city. other major town are edda, Mgbo, Onueke, Ezzamgbo, Nkalagu, Uburu, Onicha, Ishiagu, Ukawu, Amasiri, and Okposi. It is one of the six new states created from the old Abakaliki division of Enugu State, and the old Afik-po division of Imo State.Ebonyi is primarily an agricultural region. It is a leading producer of rice, yams, cassava, potatoes, maize, and beans. Ebonyi also have sev-eral solid mineral resourses, but little large scale commercial mining. The state government has however given severa incentives to investors in the agro-allied sector.Ebonyi is called ‘The Salt of The nation’ for its huge salt deposite at the Okposi and Uburu salt lakes.The state is governed by Chief Martin Elechi, who was elected governor in 2007

ENUGU STATE
The name Enugu State derivees from its capital city, ‘Enugu’ (Enu Ugwu) meaning ‘Top of the Hill. Although most of Enugu city is down the sprawling valley below, it borrowed its name from the Enugwu village of Ngwuo which is on top of the hill, with most of their farmland on the sprawling valley that became Enugu, and was then refered to as ‘Enugwu Ngwuo’. The first European settlers arrived in the area in 1909, led by a British mining engineer, Albert Kitson. In quest for silver, he discovered coal on the Udi ridge. Colonial Governor of Nigeria, Lord Lugard took keen interest in the discovery, and by 1914, the first shipment of coal was made to Britain. As mining activi-ties increased in the area, a permanent cosmopolitan settlement emerged, supported by a railway system.Enugu acquired township status in 1917, and subsiquently dropped the name ‘Enugwu Ng-wuo’ for a more convinient Enugu. From being the capital of the Southern Province of Nigeria, Enugu became the capital of Eastern Nigeria, capital of the defunct Re-public of Biafra, capital of old Anambra State, and now caiptal of present Enugu State through a process of state creation and diffu-sion of administrative authorityThe present governor of Enugu state is His Excellency Barrister Sullivan Chime

IMO STATEImo State has resilient and democratic political environment. It has a population of 4.8 Million people. The state’s proximity to neighbouring states metropolitan mar-kets of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Aba in Abia State, Onitsha in Anambra State, Enugu in Enugu State, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River State makes it the most attrac-tive for investments. All the important commercial centers mentioned above are connected to Imo State by well developed network of good roads.
Imo state has a busy international cargo airport . The Sam Mbekwe Airport, located in a serene environment with a proposed inland container depot and good access road to the capital and adjoining states.

The Igbo Unity Project has been established in the interest of realizing the full potential of the geographical Igboland and help position this region in the mainstream of international commerce. Igbo Entrepreneurship Institute is a corps of young adult Igbos engaged in the field of "Igbo Global Social Entrepreneurship" from the global Igbo community. The I.E.I. is designed to mold youth in the Diaspora and native Igbo speaking region into entrepreneurs who can embark on practical methods of improving the infrastructure and industry in the Igboland. Igbo youth in the Diaspora & native Igboland work side by side to promote and consolidate Igbo businesses by providing services for business such as marketing, high-skilled labor, and creation of strategic networking contacts. These activities will foster both a favorable business environment in the Igbo community and the enterprise of Igbo youths. Currently, the I.E.I. has recruited active participants and is engaged in research initiatives aimed at the economic development of South Eastern Nigeria. More About Igbo Farm VillageMany volunteers came from different parts
of the United States to participate in the construction of the Igbo Farm Village (Ulo
Ubi Igbo) during the summer of 2010. They came from Igbo Communities in Chicago, Nashville, Kentucky, Washington, DC, and New Jersey. The construction of the Igbo farm village by volunteers from various
Igbo communities must have been a great experience for all involved. It undoubtedly provided the opportunity for older people to reenact the traditional collective work-
ing spirit of Ndigbo they were used to back home, and for the younger ones, an oppor-
tunity to live an experience what they might have heard their parents talk about, and
also an opportunity to experience the deep sense of belonging that goes with it.
Ticha Akuma-kalu Njoku’s statement went further to drive this home when he said,
“I do believe that the learning and growth that have come by these first hand experi-
ences and from the summer cultural immer-sion classes and weekend institutes that I run in the Igbo farm Village mean a great
deal to Igbo youths and to other people of African descent”.
The Igbo Farm Village (Ulo Ubi Igbo) marked its one year anniversary this year 2011.

The Igbo Farm Village (Ulo Ubi Igbo) in the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, Vir-ginia is one of the five farmsteads to recog-nize the contribution of the first Old World immigrants to the development of Virginia and the greater American frontier culture. In 2002, after the American Frontier Culture Foundation had funded the construction of the English, Irish, German, and Colonial American farms, the staff of the Frontier Culture Museum began to consider one that will represent the peoples and cultures of West Africa. In 2003, after hearing about my research that retraced the slave jour-neys from Arochukwu to the coastal towns of Calabar and Bonny before the forced to journeys to the Americas, the Frontier Cul-ture Museum contacted me. I became a member of their Advisory Board and later the principal consultant for the Igbo Farm Village project in Staunton of Virginia.
Why Igbo?
Even though the Frontier Culture Museum’s intention was to name their new farm “West African Farm”, they were aware that the Igbo were greater in number than all the other enslaved Africans put together in Virginia in the 1700s. Before my Nigerian hinterland slave routes project, other schol-ars had established that most of the slaves sold by the Aro traders in the eighteen century were bought by merchants from Glasgow, Scotland and taken to Virginia to work on tobacco plantations. And when cotton took over from tobacco as the main-stay of the economy of British America, Vir-ginian slaveholders sent their Igbo slave laborers to the Cotton Belt and the Igbo la-bor made cotton king. Douglas Chambers (1996) made a direct connection between the journeys from Calabar and Bonny and Igbo settlements in Virginia .
In March 2006, the American Frontier Cul-ture Museum staff and I traveled to Nige-ria
and together with the staff of Nigerian Na-tional Commission for Museums and Mon-uments gathered information on tradi-tional Igbo architecture. After the research trip, Mrs. Umebe Onyejekwe who served as our contact person and consultant in Nige-ria helped to collect and ship a container full of building materials from Nigeria for the construction of the Igbo Farm Village. I opened discussions in the Igbo community in the spring of 2008, and recruited Rever-end Dr. Stanislaus Maduawuchi Ogbonna, a man with traditional building expertise
to assist with the construction of the build-ings. Dr. Kanayo Odeluga agreed to mobi-lize and coordinate volunteers. Throughout the construction, volunteers came from the Washington, D.C. area, Chicago, Nashville, Bowling Green, Kentucky; Orlando, New Jersey, California, etc.” From the volunteers, the American Frontier Culture Foundation appointed Dr. Ejike Obasi and Dr. Nwa-

One Diaspora Igbo Voice for Our People A Brief History Igbo World Assembly (IWA) was inaugurated on 3rd May 2008. Before the inception of IWA, there was no umbrella organization that was representing different countries worldwide, hence no One Diaspora Igbo Voice for Our People. IWA is structured into two groups. The leadership rotates between the groups. Group 1: the Americas, Caribbean Group 2: Europe, Africa and Asia HIERARCHY OF AUTHORITY (Igbo Welu Eze) IWA agrees that Ohaneze Ndigbo (Nigeria) is the Parent Organisation and Mouthpiece of Ndigbo World Wide, hence the close collaboration and working with Ohaneze Ndigbo in ALL matters of concern to Ndigbo – IGBO AGENDA – IGBO UNITY. IWA CONVENTIONS All IWA Conventions must be in Nigeria. The Conventions is always scheduled on 26th and 27th September of every year in the state chosen by Ohaneze Ndigbo Igbo Day Commemoration on 29th September of every year. Regional unity does not require our people to give up cherished beliefs or “waterdown” their convictions. Rather, it requires respect, listening, and dialogue wheninteracting with those who hold differing viewpoints. Indeed, civility and inclusiveleadership have often been exercised in the igbo experience as a means of movingto highest, common ground and developing more creative approaches to realiseshared aspirations.
Accordingly, the Igbo World Assembly committee to Unite a Divided Regionstrongly urges Igbo Leaders to draw strength and wisdom from our region’sgreatest achievements arising from inclusiveness and civility, leadership etc.

2012 From the Office of the DSG Education InstituteThe Education Institute on this auspicious occasion of the 2012 IWA Convention sends greet-ings to all Igbo citizens all over the world. Special greetings go to Igbo people in Nigeria who bear the brunt of the alienation and discrimination being meted out to Ndigbo in Nigeria. The 2012 IWA Convention provides a platform for Igbo renewal of and reengagement with those attributes that distinguish us as a people, unique in purpose, dogged in every struggle, and determined in character.
Sound education is one of such attributes. Igbo people have always been champions in the forefront and vanguard of creative and progressive education. The immediate past era largely dislodged us form this traditional and enviable position and domain. This is our chance to relocate and position ourselves where we belong. Education is the surest avenue and a nonne-gotiable option to sustainable development. The misguided and misconstrued shortcuts, which our new generation of youths tried as alternatives in the recent past proved dismally dysfunc-tional.
The Education Institute advocates for the creation of centres of excellence in Igboland at all levels of education – primary, secondary and tertiary. Through this decentralised but strati-fied system approach, all stakeholders including parents, communities, teachers, learners and industries will be involved in education administration, planning and implementation. The days of total disconnect between learners and parents; teachers and the community; and between institutions and the industry should be put behind us. The untoward damage the recent bas-tardization and commercialization of education and the get-rich- quick mania have done to the Igbo agenda is immeasurable but not irreparable. We need to regenerate and reconstruct a progressive system of education that would harness the Igbo moral and ethical values and funnel them into a progressive and constructive education system whose graduates will pro-vide and not deprive; create and not destroy; uphold and not downgrade; and honour and not dishonour the tenets of Igbo identity. The system of education being advocated will make learning the envy of the unlearned, create educated patriots and not bigots, usher in industrial revolution, create jobs and move Igbo youths away from street trading to dignified industry executives,
We have done it in the past we can do it again! Let’s go!
