Power Electronics advance further, with vision and hard work bringing success in both the Industrial and Solar divisions, while maintaining the unique customer orientated business model and 24/7 service. The client enters into a contractual relationship with a product and a service but it is our different way of seeing things that really creates added value.

With this philosophy, our solar division has successfully commissioned more than 750MW in the last semester. This is not just a service landmark but a collection of projects completed on time ensuring profitability for our clients and increasing their trust in us. Facts that enable us to have secured a pipeline of more than 600MW projects to date in the coming months in the US and Latin America where our structure continues to grow and we see great opportunities.

Similarly our Industrial division has progressed exponentially in sectors with large travel such as Oil & Gas and Mining. Where flexibility of our designs and our new outdoor solutions open a

range of possibilities for reducing the CAPEX and OPEX of new facilities.

Our commitment to R&D for the previous years is important and is now bearing fruit, in the last six months we have launched our new HEC-PLUS and HEC-1500V solar inverters, and our medium voltage XMV660 outdoor variable speed drive. All have received a great response and we hope to be a best seller in 2016.

We share and engage our employees and partners of our recent success, and we invite our staff to continue to work with the Power On Support objective.

POWER ELECTRONICS HAS A NEW EUROPEAN SALES DIRECTOR

This month Power Electronics is happy to introduce Flavio Baccini as our new European Sales Director for the Industrial division. Flavio was originally introduced to Power Electronics as a client where he was always happy with the quick response times and strong customer oriented approach of the company. This also gave him the opportunity to develop a good relationship with the Salvo family as is common with most Power Electronics customers.

He has a strong cross-disciplinary background ranging from sales to marketing to project development and even product development. His goal is to introduce a proactive approach to developing market share while focusing on the largest markets around Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the UK. He is tasked with generating new avenues of business development while being client selective in order to position products in markets that enjoy quick turnaround times. Major focus will be placed on developing medium voltage product sales where the market is currently much less saturated.

His team will be based about 25km outside Milan in Italy; with Italy currently the second largest market for drives according to European statistics. “There is still a lot of room for growth,

especially when considering the support offering from Power Electronics. Customers need more involvement from their product providers and value offering through the advent of complete product customization and that is what we can offer better than anyone”.

A great deal of time will be spent on establishing direct relationships with machine manufacturers in order to create low intensity sales with larger volumes. His opinion is that the current sales focus is on a limited portion of the market. “There are many more avenues where our products could be introduced and we look to open those markets while applying the company ethos of 24/7 support”.

Current estimates puts the focused market at well over 2.5 billion Euros, “we know that there is more than enough market share to create significant growth in the industrial sector, and we have big challenges from the European market with regards to customer requirements, I am excited for the challenge”.

We look forward to seeing great things from Flavio and we are happy to welcome him to the Power Electronics team.

XMV660 OUTDOORNEMA 3R

Power Electronics has released its ultimate XMV660 Outdoor MV VSD. The most innovative, reliable and long lasting IP55/ NEMA 3R outdoor medium voltage drive is ready for 24/7 operation with highly

reduced maintenance under the most demanding desert conditions.

The XMV660 topology goes one step further in achieving high performance by implementing proven low voltage technology within a modular and reliable configuration. An input phase shift transformer powers low voltage cells that are combined in series producing a quasi–sinusoidal current and a voltage output wave with a reduced dV/dt and THDi level.

This leading topology has been integrated in a truly outdoor enclosure. This is a system born to run under the most demanding conditions with dust, moisture or ice: extreme conditions common in Oil&Gas, Power Generation and water applications. A highly globalized market is demanding reliable, safe and efficient solutions to reduce the OPEX and CAPEX in new facilities, and XMV660 Outdoor MV VSD links all these concepts by providing substantial savings on:

•CAPEX (Construction and Civil Works): Multi-MW AC drives have an important foot print that push designers and constructors to build impressive technical rooms. The civil works in remote locations represent an important investment that the outdoor XMV660 reduces to the minimum.

•OPEX (Maintenance and HVAC): The AC drives dissipates in heat between 2% to 4% of the power converted, this means that the HVAC systems for e-houses can represent a high percentage of the electrical operating cost of the facility. The XMV660 Outdoor is ready to exchange heat with the surrounding air of up to 50°C, being the smarter and the most cost-effective solution.

The outdoors market is growing at a high rate and XMV660 Outdoor is attracting the attention of leading companies from Oil & Gas, Power Generation and Water applications due to its rugged construction:

•Inox Enclosure - that ensures cabinet longevity under the most demanding conditions.

•Mineral Isolation - that reduces solar heat gains and ensures trouble free operations.

•Non-stop innovative Cooling – Smart and Reliable cyclone air filtering that allows the unit to withstand Sand Storms and Extreme Environments.

•Redundancy – Power cells and cooling redundancy reduce the cost associated to a non-scheduled production stop.

Power Electronics provides innovative solutions and best-in-class worldwide service, an undoubtedly good concept combination that ensures long-term relationships with our clients.

Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) or Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) are extensively used to regulate processes, shaft positioning or reduce energy consumption. However few Lead Electrical Engineers count on VSDs to reduce the size of their new or retrofitted electrical facilities. The inrush currents of large motors during motor starting create significant load impacts on the electrical network, causing voltage fluctuations or in worst cases, blackouts.

Hospitals, Security and Government buildings, water purification plants and pumping stations are critical facilities that must continue to provide despite emergency blackout situations. For this reason new and retrofitted plants require diesel gen-set power supplies and facilities that are engineered to overcome these emergency situations. A diesel gen-set power station is a costly asset that can be reduced significantly in size by installing high performance VSDs on the larger motors, which will ensure:

Low inrush current: SD700FR and XMV660 are available with soft load and starting control, which allows the user to connect the drive and start the

motor at its rated current. This leads to a smooth drive connection and a smooth motor starting sequence that significantly reduce the load impact on grids powered with diesel gen-sets.

Low harmonics and High Power factor: SD700FR and XMV660 provide a THDI <5% to achieve compliance with IEEE519 and reduce the inefficient distortions on weak grids.

Synchronous Bypass: Once the starting sequence is finished and the motor is intended to run continuously at full speed, it is recommended to

run at 100% efficiency by transferring the motor to the grid with a synchronous bypass. SD700FR and XMV660 are available with a bypass cabinet that ensures full synchro transferring.

Low Voltage Ride Through functionality: In case of a sudden voltage fluctuation the

SD700FR and XMV660 will withstand and keep powering the unit without stopping.

An unbeatable offering and a unique philosophy of ‘Power ON Support’, makes Power Electronics the right choice for worldwide challenges.

POWER ELECTRONICS SOLAR PUMPING, COMMITTED TO SAVINGPower Electronics have installed a new hybrid solar pumping unit in Avila, Spain; a system that can run from a solar installation as well as from the grid. The installation consists of a SD700SP working as the master, and a SD500 working as the slave. Both feed 18kW pumps responsible for the irrigation of barley fields from a nearby reservoir. An irradiation sensor provides the information to the SD700SP control drive when there is enough radiation to start the pump at the minimum frequency. If radiation increases, the master

On the 25th of June a meeting was held between the organizing committees of EFIAQUA, EGETICA and ECOFIRA. The meeting was attended by a host of luxury, Aguas de Valencia, and unparalleled stage; the Drinking Water Treatment Plant (ETAP) The ETAP La Presa, located in the Manises plant, is the longest running drinking water plant in Europe. With weir or “barrier” collection dating back to 1858 and a pump room since 1906.

The plant produces between 40%-60% of the drinking water for Valencia, reaching more than 850,000 inhabitants of the city. However, instead of lingering in the past it has been modernized over the years and today has become one of the most advanced stations on the continent. It has conventional treatment with granular activated

The safe torque OFF module (STO – Safe Torque Off) is now available as an optional extra for the SD500 drive family. This functionality can interrupt the power to the motor reliably so that it cannot generate torque.

The STO functionality along with the installation of a safety relay and an emergency stop button is widely used in applications where cleaning or maintenance of mobile areas can lead to a risk of entrapment, where there are safety interlocks for the user, etc. The new STO module will prevent the need to install a general supply contactor and allow the user to monitor this condition in the drive.

Power Electronics SD700FR low harmonic and regenerative drive obtains A and B1 compliance against the toughest symmetric and asymmetric voltage dips defined in IEC61000-4-34.

The new software control provides nominal torque and power to the motor during voltage dips with a residual voltage over 70%. Thanks to the advanced front end rectifier of the IGBT’s, the drive is capable of automatically increasing the bus voltage and the input current to compensate for voltage dips in the line, ensuring that the power delivered to the motor remains at an acceptable value. This functionality allows facilities with unstable power networks or frequent dips, uninterrupted operation without harmful effects on their processes or machines.

Additionally, in the event of an input voltage less than 70%, the SD700FR drive will perform a controlled shutdown and will automatically provide

The Solar sector in the UK, thanks to the ROCs scheme established by the British Government, has seen more than three years of successful growth of their renewable energy sector. The 31st of March was the deadline in the calendar for the ROCs scheme to be brought down from 1.4 to 1.3 with a size limitation of 5MWp per site. Due to this, all companies with solar projects in the UK were making all possible efforts to connect their parks before this deadline.

We broke the last years record; in March 2014 we announced the connection of 350MW in less than 2 weeks. Today we are proud to announce that over 600MW has successfully been commissioned in this past quarter in

Power Electronics supplied 8, 6.6kV VS65 Series starters to modernize the 1.8MW pumping station in Kazandere, Istanbul. The station is managed by ISKI, the public utility responsible for water in Istanbul. The station pumps 2,770,000m3 daily, providing enough drinking water to the 14 million inhabitants of the city.

The 4,4MWp solar park in the Czernikowo district in north-central Poland will rely on two HET inverters to be at the heart of the installation and inject power in to the grid. The HET inverters were chosen for their ability to handle even the most demanding conditions, with low temperatures and frequent snowfall in winter. It is built using a standard ISO 40” isolated maritime shipping container, containing a medium voltage switchgear and transformer making the HET the obvious choice.

OVER 1,2GW INSTALLED IN THE UKPower Electronics has successfully commissioned over 55 parks all over the United Kingdom’s geography, totaling more than 600MW in the first quarter.

more than 55 different locations over the country. Power Electronics leads the list of solar inverter manufacturers for ground mount PV plants with over 1,2GW installed in the country.

For this tremendous achievement we began months ago to prepare a plan to bring over to the UK multi-located engineers and off-grid commissioning sets. This has resulted in into an unmatched success and the valuable recognition of our clients.

Power Electronics will continue to grow with even more passion, fueled by our client’s appreciation for our great efforts in the industry we proudly represent.
