Magic Lights is used for making differentpatterns using lasers and for decorationpurposes.

It uses 14 bi-colour (red and green) lightemitting diodes, having three terminals each.

Different dancing colour patterns are producedusing this circuit since each LED can producethree different colours.

Easy to build and works without any externalsupply, just a 9V battery.

LEDs used are robust so the chances of getting afault in long run are very less.

Not affected by shock and vibration.

Running Energy cost is FAR LESS. LEDs use 1/8 to1/10 the amount of energy (small electric bills).

Very Sensitive to Voltage. Over Voltage mustbe Avoided.

High Initial price due to the presence of LEDs.

    1. Bi-Colored LED:

capable of emitting two different colors of light, redand green

It has 3 leads, housed in a 3mm or 5mm epoxypackage.

Positive voltage directs one of the LED terminals, causing that terminal to emit light of the correspondingcolor; when the direction of the voltage is reversed, theother color is emitted.

    2. IC CD4511:

It is a 16 pin BCD-to-7-segment decoder IC from the4000 CMOS series.

Takes in a 4-bit BCD number and, through a series ofinternal logic gates, generates 7 outputs.

It is used to build microcontrollers or other ICs that canbe configured through firmware to perform the same

    functions in a smaller package.

    3. ICCD4518:

It is 16 pin Dual BCD Up-Counter IC.

It has two identical, internally synchronous 4-stageCounter. The Counter stages are D-type Flip-Flops

having interchangeable Clock and Enable lines forincrementing on either the positive-going or negative-going transition.

The Counters can be cleared by giving high input on

    their Reset lines.

    4. IC-555:

It is an integrated circuit(chip) used in a variety of timer, pulsegeneration and oscillator applications.

In a-stable mode, the 555 timer puts out a continuous stream ofrectangular pulses having a specified frequency.

Particularly with bipolar 555s, low values of R1 must be avoidedso that the output stays saturated near zero volts during discharge

In the a-stable mode, the frequency of the pulse stream dependson the values of R1, R2 and C:

The middle terminal (pin 2) of the LEDs is the common cathodepin which is grounded. The positive voltage is applied to pin 1and pin 3, depending on the desired color.

IC 555 is applied in a-stable mode of multi-vibrator to produce

clock signal for IC CD4518 (IC2 & IC3)that are dual BCD counters.

The outputs from IC2 and IC3 are connected to IC4 through IC7which are BCD to 7-segment latch/decoder/driver ICs (CD4518).

The outputs from former pair (IC4 & IC5)are connected to pin No.

1 of all the 14 bi-colour LEDs via current limiting resistors, theoutputs of the latter pair (IC6 & IC7) are similarly connected to pinNo.3 of all the bi-colour LEDs

The circuit produces a magical dancing lights effect.

It can be used for decoration purposes.

It can be used for laser shows by replacing the

    LEDs with laser module.

It can be used for lightning purposes in

    household purposes.

It can be used as indicators on roads etc.
