Magnets and their locations The Garage: The Magnetic Car Park is where visitors can create and try out their wheeled vehicles in a “skate park” atmosphere. The pieces include wheels, and blocks attached with plastic pieces. Each contains a magnet.

TheGarage:

TheMagneticCarParkiswherevisitorscancreateand tryouttheirwheeledvehiclesina“skatepark” atmosphere.Thepiecesincludewheels,andblocks attachedwithplasticpieces.Eachcontainsamagnet.

TheRaceCarTrackallowsvisitorstobuildracetracks andracecarswiththeirfriends.Duetotheangleof thetrack,thepiecescontainsmallmagnets(shown above)topreventthetracksfromsliding.

SometoysinTheLittleOrangeStorecontainstrongmagnets.AsktheStoreAssociateformoredetails.

TheMakeshop:

IntheMakeshop,visitorscaninvestigatehowthingswork.Magnetsarepresentinafewlocationsthroughouttheday.CircuitBlocks(right)allowvisitorstoexplorecircuitry.AchangeableBallMaze(below)createsachallengetogetthewoodenballfromthebeginningtotheend.Thesepiecescontainsmallmagnetstoattachthemtothemetalwall.Thecomponentsintheabovepicturearefree-standingandallowvisitorstoexplorerepellingandattractingmagneticfields.DuetothenatureoftheMakeshop,theactivitiesarechangedaround.TeachingArtists,whostaffthisExhibit,arehappytoansweranyquestionsyourmighthaveaboutnewactivities.

TheStudio:

VisitorsarefreetocreatewhicheverkindofartworkthatmovesthemwhiletheyvisittheArtStudio.EverythingfromScreenPrintingtopaintingateasels,fromexploringdifferentprinttechniquestomoldingwithclayisaccessibletokidsintheStudio.TheonlymagnetslocatedhereareatthePaintingEasels.OurStaffwillbemorethanhappytoaccommodateanyspecificneedsthatmightarisetoensureeveryoneisabletohaveagreattimeattheMuseum.

TheAttic:

LocatedjustoutsidetheAtticistheMagneticAvalanche.ThisisoneofseveralAvalanchescreatedbyartistNedKahn.Thisistheonlymagneticcomponent.Thesandlocatedontopofthepieceismixedwithironfilingswhicharemagnetic.Whenthediskisturnedthefilingsareattractedtothemagnetslocatedontheundersideofthepiecegivingita“fuzzy”look.TheNursery:OuryoungestvisitorsareabletoenjoytheTrainTablesintheNursery.Thesefamiliarandfunlocomotivescontainsmallmagnetstoconnecttogethertheindividualcarstocreateanevenlargertrain.SimilartrainsarealsosoldintheMuseum’sLittleOrangeStore.

Waterplay:

LocatedontheThirdFlooroftheMuseum,Waterplayencouragesexplorationofdifferentwaystoplaywithwater.Nearthefountain-buildingareaoftheexhibit,istheMagneticWaterWall.Smallmagneticpiecescanbemovedandmanipulatedtochangethecourseofthewaterasisspillsdownoverthemetalsurface.
