Maha  Shivarathri  Festival  March  2nd,  Wednesday  -‐  2011  

You   are   cordially   invited   to   attend   the   celebration   of   Maha  Sivarathri   at   the   Shiva   Vishnu   Temple   in   Livermore,   CA.    Devotees,   on   this   auspicious   night,   celebrate   the   festival   with  devotion  and  religious  fervor   in  honor  of  Lord  Shiva,  one  of  the  deities  of  Hindu  Trinity.    Temple  Priests  will  perform  ritual  puja  by   bathing   Shiva   Lingam   (with   milk,   buttermilk,   ghee,   honey,  sugar   and   fruits)   among   devotee   chanting   of   “Om   Namah  Shivaya”  and  temple  bells.    This  ritual  will  be  performed  all  day  on  March   2nd   and   a   nightlong   vigil   (jaagaran)   will   be   observed  into  early  hours  of  March  3rd.     It   is  believed   that   the  devotee’s  sincere  worship   of   Lord   Shiva   on   this   auspicious   day/night  will  absolve  past  sins  and  enable  salvation.
