ith a name like SAVAGES, you
would expect the band mem‐
bers to be pretty vicious, how‐
ever in reality, its quite the op‐
posite.Savages lead guitarist is a heavily tattooed
5’3 rocker, she’s very much so the modern
Joan Jett, with Slash like hair.
First things first, tell us a bit about the
new album?
Yeah, well its called The Bitter End and its our
debut album, so fingers crossed it does reallywell. It’s basically good old rock ‘n roll with
metal / country / jazz influences and some
pretty crazy solos (laughs).
Yes! That’s something that we noticed,
you have crazy fingers, how long have
you been playing guitar?
(laughs) Well, I picked up my first guitar
when I was 5, it was a really nice Spanish gui‐
tar that I used to play non stop, but then I
kinda got bored with it when I was 7, and I
remember watching my dad break it over

his knee, anyway, I went on to learn violin, that lasted
about 2 weeks, then at 12 I picked up the guitar again,
and haven’t stopped playing since.
So how many guitars do you have and which is
your favourite?
Well, I currently own 4, 2 acoustics and 2 electrics, by
far my favourite is my Epiphone Les Paul Standard,
that’s the guitar that I have used on most of the tracks
from the record, with the exception of a couple of
acoustic tracks.
Ok, so lets talk about these tattoos, there’s so
many!
(laughs) Yeah, I do have a bit of an obsession for ink,
Most of my tattoos are well hidden, except for the oneson my arms, and sometimes the one on my neck, but
they all mean something to me, I didn’t just randomly
walk into a tattoo shop and point a design out, I
thought about what I wanted, for different reasons,
and I designed a couple of them myself.
So you’re obviously quite an artistic person, if
you weren’t in the band, what would you be do‐ing?
Ermmm. Good question (laughs), you know, I’m a bit of
a gamer, so maybe I would have gone on to design
characters for games... Or maybe I would have followed
my passion for ink and become a tattoo artist (laughs).
Hmmm, wonder how that would have turned
out?...ok..so there’s 5 of you in the band, and
you’re the only girl, does that change the way
the group works?
No, The guys are like big brothers to me, and I think I’m
more of a little brother to them, they treat me like a
guy and its fun, because to be honest, I’ve been hang‐
ing around with dudes for so long I’ve kinda picked up
all their bad habits (laughs) and most of our crew are
guys too, so it all works out fine. The only problem isthat obviously I’m not as strong as them, so they al‐
ways tend to win at wrestling... But ill remember that
when they’re old and in wheelchairs (laughs).
