Can anyone step to their mailbox and get

a check every month for the rest of their

lives? Because of Network Marketing and

some hard work, they can. This book, full

of facts and true-life experiences, will

help you answer the mailbox money

question for yourself. These pages

explain Network Marketing: one of the

most innovative, yet misunderstood, busi-

ness concepts in the world.

In Mailbox Money, you will learn:

•Who makes Network Marketing work, and how and why.

• How others have used Network Marketing to change their lives from ordinary to extraordinary— possibly even from rags to riches.

• And most important, under what circumstances Network Marketing might provide a way for you to turn your dreams into reality.

If You’re Skeptical…

That’s okay. You may find that bythe end of this book, you willhave a new perspective. Maybeyour doubts and skepticism willdisappear. Or, maybe you’llbe even more convincedthat Network Marketing isnot for you. Either way, you’ll benone the worse for having taken acloser look.

Page 4: Mailbox Money eBook

Let’s start with a couple ofsimple facts.

FACT #1: It’s legal.

In the United States, NetworkMarketing — also called Multi-Level Marketing or MLM — hasbeen legally used for product distribution and compensatingdistributors for more than 50 years.

During this time, NetworkMarketing has repeatedly beenupheld by the federal and statecourts as a legal distribution andcompensation method, when the following legal guidelines are followed:

1. The main objective of the busi-ness is selling viable products or services at a reasonable price.

2. Each independent distributor maintains a retail customer base, usually of ten or more.

3. Potential incomes for recruiting others are not promised; or in some states, even mentioned.

4. Distributors are not paid (head hunting fees) for the mere act ofrecruiting others.

5. Distributors are not encouraged to buy more product than they can reasonably resell within 30 days.

6. The company must refund unsold product and sales materi-als, including enrollment fees, ifthe distributor chooses to resign.

Because Network Marketing islegal, there is a large upsidepotential for Network Marketingcorporations and distributors. Theconcept attracts very dynamicpromoters — some ethical, somenot. Many Network Marketingcompanies have crossed the linelegally and have been the subjectof negative media, as well as civiland criminal penalties.

Listen to how a NetworkMarketing company’s distributorspresent the opportunity, andreview the company’s businessmaterials to discern if the company is engaged in legal product distribution. Any business opportunity promoted in a fashion similar to a lottery, chain letter orinvestment opportunity will notpass established legal guidelines. If you have questions about acompany, the Direct SellingAssociation (DSA), inWashington, D.C., is the profes-

sional association that representsand sets high standards for theNetwork Marketing industry. TheDSA has been in existence forover 100 years. You may visit theirwebsite at DSA.org.

FACT #2:There are successful Network Marketing companies…and there are others that fail.

There are more than 1,000Network Marketing firms distrib-uting over $50 billion a year ingoods and services. Many of thesefirms are publicly traded compa-nies, listed on the NASDAQ, aswell as the New York andAmerican Stock Exchanges.Quixtar, Herbalife, Mary KayCosmetics, NuSkin, Primerica andNikken each boast over $1 billionannually in sales and have been in business, growing steadily, for 20to 30 years.

As is true for every kind of busi-ness, however, many NetworkMarketing companies go out ofbusiness within a few years.

FACT #3:There are successful Network Marketing dis-tributors…and there are others who give up.

Some individual distributors haveearned and enjoyed long-standingresidual income fortunes of $1million or more per year, for manyyears. Many more earn from$1,000 to $10,000 a month.

Most individuals who pursuebuilding a Network Marketingbusiness, however, give up beforethey see the level of success they hoped for. The averageNetwork Marketer never createsenough success to warrant doinganything beyond buying productsat wholesale.

The fact is, people with averageambition, commitment and effortusually don’t do well in a businesslike Network Marketing. The fol-lowing myths will be debunked —hopefully forever — if you willhelp by spreading the word…andnetworking the truth.

5

Page 6: Mailbox Money eBook

Network Marketing MythsMYTH #1: Getting in on the ground floor is the best wayto succeed in a Network Marketing company.

The truth is, it is the worst time tojoin. Eighty-five percent of allcompanies, including NetworkMarketing companies, go out ofbusiness during their first three tofive years. Of course, no companyis going to tell you that in theirpromotional material. Everyoneinvolved at the start of any com-pany hopes for it to succeed.

Another risk with a new companyis that no company has its best footforward early on. It takes years todevelop competent, experiencedstaff, reliable procedures and effi-cient services. What is the besttime to join a Network Marketingcompany? Usually when the com-pany is at least five years old. Bythen, it has demonstrated a com-mitment and ability to:

• Stay in business;• Grow ethically;• Honor distributors and customers.

And yet, you still have a chanceto get involved before they are sowell known that everyone has

either already given them a try, ordecided they aren’t interested.

MYTH #2: Network Marketing is an opportunity forsomeone who is not doing well financially to make some money — maybe even a lot of money.

Unfortunately, many of the suc-cess stories have perpetuated thismyth with a rags-to-riches theme.Although there are enough peopleto substantiate the myth, it is stilla myth.

The same skills it takes to succeedin any marketing business arerequired in Network Marketing:

• You must have confidence;• You must be assertive;• You must be dynamic in your ability

to express yourself;• You must have enough resources to

propel yourself through the challenges.

Those resources should includeworking capital, contacts, credi-bility with your contacts, time, discipline, and a positive, crystal-clear vision of where you intendto go with your business —whether it is easy or not.

Page 7: Mailbox Money eBook

The truth is that people who arestruggling financially are doing sofor a number of reasons, includinglow self-esteem and/or a lack ofthe basic skills and preparationthat allow one to succeed in any-thing. Network Marketing is apowerful and dynamic economicmodel, but not so powerful that itcan overcome most people’s lackof readiness or persistence.

The fact is that the people whoare already successful in whateverthey do, tend to also succeed inNetwork Marketing. The greatpart is they are apt to do betterfinancially in Network Marketingbecause the economic dynamicsare so powerful.

MYTH #3: Network Marketers succeed by being in theright place at the right time. Luck and hypeare big factors.

Network Marketing is a business:it is not a hobby, a game, ascheme, a deal, or something inwhich to dabble. Peoplewho treat it lightly do notsucceed. People who treat itas a new career, a profession, anda business have a reasonableopportunity to make it pay offvery well.

As with any new career, profes-sion or business, you need to:

• Learn what you are doing;• Practice;• Invest in your education and tools;• Apply yourself diligently to succeed.

All of this takes time, effort andmoney. It is not unusual for a suc-cessful Network Marketer to haveinvested hundreds of hours andthousands of dollars before profitsand residual income start to flow. This is actually “the norm.”

MYTH #4:The way Network Marketing works is the "BigGuys" make all their money off the "LittleGuys".

The “big guys, little guys” myth isusually perpetuated by people whodefine “fairness” as “everyone getsthe same benefits regardless oftheir contributions.” That is nothow Network Marketing works.

7

Page 8: Mailbox Money eBook

In Network Marketing, the peoplewho attract, train and motivatethe most salespeople earn themost money.

If you personally sell $500 worthof product each month, and youhave built an organization of 500people who sell $500 worth ofproduct each month, you will earna great deal more (like 500 timesmore) than the person who justsells $500 per month. That’s basiccapitalism, which most NorthAmericans consider quite fair.Network Marketing does workand it can work for anyone.

When Network Marketing doesnot work it is usually because aparticular company, product ordistributor is not working. If it isnot working for you, take a lookat whether your chosen companyis not working, the products arenot working, or most importantly, whether or not it is you that is not working.

MYTH #5: You have to use your friends and family tomake any money in Network Marketing.

The truth is, you do not andshould not. Your friends and fami-ly should only become part of yourbusiness if it serves them to do so.If it serves them — if they see anopportunity for themselves just

like you did — then they are notbeing used; they are being served. If you do not believe your oppor-tunity can serve them, do notoffer it to them…and questionwhether or not it even serves you.

An opportunity that truly inspiresyou will most likely inspire themas well. Offer it to them. If theysay no, respect and honor theirviewpoint and do not make a nuisance of yourself.

MYTH #6: If Network Marketing really worked, every-one would get involved and the marketwould soon be saturated.

The truth is, although this ismathematically possible, historyhas proven that saturation is notan issue. The largest NetworkMarketing company in the world— Quixtar (formerly Amway) —has been drawing circles andrecruiting sales reps for more than50 years. You are probably not adistributor, nor am I, nor are 239million other Americans. Yetthree million people worldwide, and more than one millionAmericans are, which makes forsome very, very wealthy Quixtardistributors.

8

Page 9: Mailbox Money eBook

Most of us grew up with thedirect selling paradigm.

In direct sales, if you are offered aproduct and the opportunity toearn money by selling that prod-uct, the amount of money youmake will be based on the amountof product you personally sell.

In the direct selling paradigm, if you had a goal of selling $1 mil-lion worth of product a month, you might hire 100 full-time, professional salespeople to workfor you, giving them each a terri-tory and a quota of $10,000 insales per month. If they couldn’tmeet that quota, of course, youwould fire them and find othersalespeople who could.

While Network Marketing is aform of direct selling, there aresome important distinctions. As a Network Marketer, you woulduse a very different paradigm to achieve the same $1 million in sales.

Instead of full-time, professionalsalespeople with terrifying quotas,Network Marketing is based onsatisfied customers, most of whomdo not like to sell, but are happy

to tell others about products they, themselves, use. These customersare not full-time or part-timeemployees. They are some-time,independent volunteers with noquotas and no protected territo-ries. They “work” when they feellike it.

Network Marketing is notnecessarily about personallyselling a lot of product, althoughsome distributors do. It is aboutusing, recommending and sellingthe product and finding a lot ofothers to do the same.

How Does It Really Work?

9

Back to Table of Contents

Page 10: Mailbox Money eBook

The differences between Direct Salespeople and NetworkMarketing People are:

Network Marketing is simplya lot of people

each doing a little bit.

As you can see, in the Network Marketing paradigm, individual distributors donot sell very much product. One million dollars in sales is achieved by getting alot of distributors — in this case 10,000 — to each sell a little.

This is how the rich get richer andthe poor get poorer.

If you had $1 million today toinvest at 10 percent:

• In seven years, you would have $2 million;

• In fourteen years, you would have $4 million;

• In twenty-one years, you would have $8 million.

In many “old money” families, this investment compounding hasbeen going on for so many genera-tions, they can’t possibly spend allthe interest income produced. They are on autopilot to just keepgetting richer.

Conversely, if you had $5,000 borrowed on credit cards at twen-ty percent interest and you made the minimum payment, in thirty years:

• You would have that debt paid off;• You probably would have accumu-

lated other debts;• You probably would not have had

an extra dime to invest.

In many “limited money” families, this debt compounding has been

going on for so long they can’teven afford the minimum pay-ment, let alone continue to buywhat they need and want. Theyare on autopilot to just keep get-ting poorer.

Most Americans are in an endlesscycle of debt. They borrow more, which raises their payments, which eats into their othermoney, which leads to borrowingmore…and so on.

Compounding BankruptciesThe number of people filing forbankruptcy has increased 63 percent in the last decade. Whatthe heck — you can do it everyseven years!

The Compounding Effect

Geometric ProgressionThe secret that drives this wealth-building and debt-buildingdynamic is Geometric Progression;the same thing that makes thewealth-building potential ofNetwork Marketing so huge. Thegreat thing about NetworkMarketing, however, is you don’tneed to have a lot of money toput Geometric Progression towork. You just need to talk to alot of people, who talk to a lot ofpeople, who talk to a lot of peo-ple…etc.

The geometric progression of NetworkMarketing is typically illustrated inthis way:

Each circle represents one person. This is a “four-who-sponsor-four-who-sponsor-four” scenario thatcan continue on indefinitely.

Note: No Network Marketer’sorganization looks exactly like thisone. This is merely an illustration ofa mathematical formula that showsthe dynamic and potential available. There is no way to control howmany, or how few, people any onedistributor will sponsor.

Page 13: Mailbox Money eBook

The Secret of InertiaA little-known fact about makingthe compounding effect work foryou is that first you have to breakthrough inertia.

When you start to build yourNetwork Marketing group, youwill experience a lot of inertia.Only if, and when, you movethrough that inertia will youexperience the true value andrewards of your NetworkMarketing organization.

Getting started is like riding abicycle up a steep hill. It takes a

lot of sustained effort to get up the hill. Once you reach the topof the hill however, little energy is required to keep it moving.

The inertia you experience whenstarting a Network Marketingorganization is actually like get-ting up and over the crest of ahill. The uphill push takes evenmore sustained effort to get start-ed, but once you’re over the crest, the natural momentum makes itdifficult or impossible to stop.

Page 14: Mailbox Money eBook

It is possible to push your group’ssize and activity through its inertia and into momentum ina way that is so powerful yoursales organization’s sustainedgrowth continues regardless ofwhat you do.

This is accomplished throughmassive action. Massive actionis you hitting the ground running as soon as you choose your opportunity.

Massive action requires that you:

• Give your all to your Network Marketingbusiness in the beginning;

• Give your all to your Network Marketingbusiness until you crest the hill…until your group starts to have growth and a momentum of its own.

Breaking through inertia can takea month, a year or more. No mat-ter how long it takes, you mustcontinue to apply maximum effortuntil your group starts rollingwithout you. What that means ispersonally selling enough productand sponsoring enough peopleuntil you find those few — three, four or five — willing to exertenough energy to get theirorganizations over the crest. Those few are the leadersupon which your empirewill be built. Nothing great andlong-lasting is ever built in

Network Marketing without find-ing and developing those leaders.

It takes time and substantialeffort, but once you find yourleaders, you can just fan the fireand watch your empire grow togreatness.

14

Page 15: Mailbox Money eBook

WARNING: When you really“get” this concept, you will mostlikely spend the greater part of the rest of your business life inNetwork Marketing.

If we continue to use the theoreti-cal model on page 12 of four whosponsor four, etc., then 256 peoplewould fill the fourth level (or gen-eration) of distributors. Thiswould result in a total of 340 peo-ple in your Network Marketingorganization, plus you.

If each of these distributors sells$100 of product per month, therewould be 340 people selling atotal of $34,000 worth of productmonthly.

If you were paid an average royal-ty of 10 percent on that $34,000,your monthly check would total$3,400.

You may think, “Wow! It looksgreat, but how do I know this willlast? How do I know this will con-tinue to grow?”

The answer…is in the numbers.

Look closely at the generationdiagram above. Which generationearns you the most income?Obviously, it is the fourth genera-tion which has four times as many people in it as the third generation above it. In fact, morethan 75 percent of your group’ssales volume, and therefore over75 percent of your earnings, are from your fourth generationdistributors.

In this scenario, however, we areassuming your fourth generationpeople are just getting started inthe business. Hopefully, they areinviting everyone they know totake a look, but they have not yetsponsored anyone themselves, sowe do not show a fifth generation.

Sooner or later this may change, and when each fourth generationdistributor gets their four, youwould have added 1,024 new dis-tributors to your fifth generation. At $100 per distributor in sales, and with a 10 percent royalty, that translates into an additional$102,400 in sales and an addition-

al $10,204 in monthly earningsfor you.

Quadruple Wow! Are you startingto “get” the power of GeometricProgression and the potential yourNetwork Marketing business has— to not only last — but to growexponentially? Picture what happens on the sixth level, on the seventh, and on the twenty-seventh.

This, my friend, is how "…the rich (networkers) get richer!"

Page 17: Mailbox Money eBook

In previous pages, you’ve seenthat Network Marketing works, how it works and the potential forexponential growth. What youhaven’t seen is the hidden, andwhat I believe is the most significant, value of a NetworkMarketing business — the oppor-tunity to create residual income.

Residual income is cash flow that survives your efforts.

Examples of residual incomeinclude the income provided byrental real estate, stock portfoliosor any interest bearing asset. Foreach of these, however, it takesmoney to make money. For exam-ple, how much rental real estate isrequired to earn $5,000 per month

in net rental income? About $1million in real estate equity. Howlarge an income would you needto buy or leverage that much realestate, and how long would ittake? The answers are: “a lot” and“a long time!”

The same is true for any type ofconventional asset appreciationprogram:

• First, you have to earn the extra money to invest.

• Then, you have to invest it wisely.

• Finally, you must wait several decades for your investment to amount to something substantial.

Residual Income

17

Back to Table of Contents

Page 18: Mailbox Money eBook

Supplementing your retirementwith residual income fromNetwork Marketing is more likewriting a book, composing a hitsong, or inventing somethingworthwhile:

• You don’t need a lot of money to start.

• You do the work for a relatively short period of time.

• You get paid for a relatively long period of time.

An effective Network Marketing distributor-ship built in an established long-term Network Marketing company can, andshould, pay you a steady residual income— indefinitely.

What that means is, if you everhave to — or choose to — stopbuilding your Network Marketingbusiness, the cash should keep on coming!

A reasonably capable person inthe right Network Marketingcompany can create a monthlyresidual income of $5,000 withina couple years of part-time effort.THAT’S RIGHT — a million-dollar distributorship within threeto four years! And, benefits can bedoubled by using the extra incomethat a Network Marketing busi-ness generates to fuel an invest-ment portfolio. How would it feelto be able to invest $5,000 in your

future every month for the nextten years?

Historically, our best options forcreating financial freedom havebeen pensions and investments.Today, however, both of these systems fall short for most people. In fact:

• The U.S. Department of the Treasury reports that the average household gets less than 45 percent of its retire-ment income from pensions and social security.

• One economic study indicates that half of North American families have less than $1,000 in net financial assets.

A residual income from a reliableNetwork Marketing company isperhaps the only truly viableoption available to anyone withthe ambition to pursue it. I per-sonally believe that in the nextten years, most people will haveadded Network Marketing to theirwealth-building strategies.

How is your retirement fund shaping up?

It might surprise you to learn just how muchyou must save and invest, starting now, toensure that you can retire when and how youchoose. Take a few minutes to fill out theworksheet that follows. It may reveal ashocking truth.

1. PRODUCTYou must find a product or serviceyou absolutely love:

• Something you would buy for-ever, regardless of whether or not you were a distributor.

• Something you can recommend to others, without reservation.

If you have to try to feel this wayabout the product, let it go. It willnot work for you long term. Lessimportant, but still vital, is thatthe product or service is consum-able, which means the customer isrequired to regularly buy more.

2. YOUR UPLINEThese are the people above you inyour line of sponsorship. They willbe partnering with you, trainingyou and supporting you. You willbe spending countless hours withthem. They will be in your home, and you in theirs. You may beearning them a lot of money. Youmust at least like them. Preferably, you will love, honor and respect

them. Look for people who arededicated, loyal, focused, positive, committed, generous and success-ful. Hook your wagon onto a ris-ing Network Marketing star andyou will increase your probability of success immensely. And mostimportantly, once you choose yoursponsor and upline — listen tothem. Follow their lead. Gettrained by them. Be coach-able. They can only be suc-cessful if you are successful.

3. THE COMPANYYou must be proud of and trustthe company; your mothership, and its leaders. They are your part-ners in product development, legaland financial issues, humanresources, customer service, prod-uct fulfillment, data processing, international expansion, publicrelations, ethics and culture. Theyare critical to your long-term suc-cess. Imagine working hard fortwo to three years to build a solidNetwork Marketing group, thenhaving the company go out of

AVOID choosing a Network Marketingcompany that:

1. Has distributors who promisequick income for very little effort.

2. Has distributors who promiseto do the selling and recruiting for you.

3. Is a brand-new, ground-floor,revolutionary company — unlessyou absolutely love the products, people and company and are willing to take the risk.

4. Has a compensation plan thatencourages you to “buy in”, “buyslots”, or order what seems like a“garage load” of product.

5. Says you do not have to sell(recommend or share) product.

6. Has frequent product back-orders. Backorders do happen, butif they are anything more than ararity, look out.

7. Is late with commission checks.

8. Has training, policies or promo-tions that consistently violate yourpersonal values. You will not beable to sell this opportunity withany personal conviction or power.

9. Sells photocopied literature atfull color prices.

who are dedicated,

The "Hundredth Monkey" is coming toNetwork Marketing.

Yes, it is true that building a salesorganization of on-fire volunteersis still a challenge. However, it isbeing done, and in a powerfulway. The biggest challenge is inerasing people’s beliefs and biasesabout the Network Marketingconcept and replacing them withwhat those of us who have done it know to be true. And, it’s coming…one day soon, worldconsciousness will shift and mostpeople — yes, most everyone —will in some way be part of thisdynamic, wealth-building industry.

Internationally, especially in theAsian markets, offering a NetworkMarketing opportunity is likethrowing gasoline on an alreadyburning fire. For years, billions ofpeople around the world have, atbest, been shut off from economicopportunity, and at worst, beenlocked into total poverty. Today, with increasing access to theInternet and satellite news, hun-dreds of millions of people havethe opportunity to pursue capital-ism and the good life, and theywant it badly — very badly.

The idea that, for a few hundredU.S. dollars, people can be inbusiness with a global corporationand all they have to do is sell andrecruit is mind-blowing for mostpeople around the world. Thatthey can build a network of salesrepresentatives worldwide, spinstheir heads right off! I expect theinternational markets led by Asia,India and Eastern Europe will cat-apult this $50 billion industry to$500 billion by the year 2010.That’s growth of 100 percent a year!

The Renaissance of the Familyand Community

Opportunity appreciation is notthe only factor fueling the futureof Network Marketing. It is alsofueled by people’s basic need toconnect with others, to be part ofsomething bigger than themselves, and to have a sense of community. Most of us know all too well thatthe family has disintegrated inmany segments of our country.Since family is the foundation ofneighborhoods and communities, they too have been compromised. Most of the industrialized world isdeeply entrenched in the rat race— parents with two full-timecareers, day care, career advance-

ment, soccer, music lessons, phones, faxes, e-mail, Internet, pagers, cell-phone mania — pay-ments, payments and more pay-ments. Some of us are winningthe race, but, as it’s been said,“We are still rats!”

A bumper sticker you may have seenreads:

Today, people are longing for areturn to a real, safe, relaxed time of freedom and soulful con-nection with others. People wantto play together, pray together, getto really know each other, andmost importantly, to be known by others.

We want to improve ourselves, tohave more pride in ourselves, to

love and respect ourselves. We arehungry for guidance and supportthat will help us grow to be morepowerful, more generous, moreself-assured. Anyone who hascome full circle can tell you thatthese are the things that bringtrue happiness. Happiness is“being” home.

Achieving financial success andstatus are wonderful, especially ifthe alternative is being financiallystrapped to a life of despair. Ithink we’d all be better off rich, but money is relative — the moreyou have, the more you think you need.

Or, as it has been said, “Money isrelative. The more you have, themore relatives you have.” There isa point, however, where we musthave the wisdom to know whenenough is enough.

This return to basic human valuesin business is a subtle, yet power-ful force driving the NetworkMarketing industry. By its verynature, Network Marketing is apeople-intensive business. If youpursue it, you will have people —thousands of them — super-charged into your life. You willhave your group, your upline, yourlocal area group, and your entirecompany as extended family andcommunity groups.

He had a childhoodvision that he would live anextraordinary life and would neversettle for conventional employ-ment. He just didn’t know how itwas going to happen.

When he was discharged from the military and subsequentlyentered Network Marketing, hisfamily was anything but excitedabout his decision. He recalls tak-ing his mother to a motivationalsales meeting in 1972, and getting

Over the next five years, he borrowed money from skepticalfamily members, had a car repos-sessed, was thrown out of hisapartment, and accrued substan-tial credit card debt. But, the per-sonal growth he was experiencingkept him hanging on and, in1978, he began to achieve finan-cially rewarding success.

Rogerbecame a university professor incellular physiology, but it was inhis successful dental practice that he first made the connectionbetween the distribution of prod-ucts through a Network Market-ing company and his patients’well-being.

A skiing buddy of Roger’s gavehim a videotape that describedthe scientific merits of Nikkenproducts. Roger thought only ofhis patients when he decided to make these pain-relieving products available to them.

Working a Network Marketingbusiness was the furthest thingfrom his mind. Yet in 1992, heand his wife, Judy, earned a six-figure income in their first year, without having a clue as to howto build a business.

Because of their enthusiasm, andsupport from their patients, theysoon realized that a much largerchance to help people throughthe Nikken opportunity existed. They maintain that the businesshas always had its own momen-tum because of the excellentproduct line. Once Frank joined corporateAmerica, he moved rapidly into a six-figure income, working pri-marily in marketing and salespositions. His professional lifekept him going seven days a week, and on the road most of the time. One day, Frank woke up and said,“No more!” The value of the

dollar was undermined by thevalue of time spent with his wife,Gingie, in their home.

Then, a corporate friend intro-duced him to Network Marketing. When Frank saw the numbersgenerated by geometric progres-sion, they made sense to him. He joined NuSkin, experiencedsuccess, and sold that businesswhen his stepfather became ill.

In his second Network Marketingcompany, he experienced the painof being “dropped” from his stellarposition in the company. It wasimperative to join a companywith integrity and unlimitedopportunity. He discovered that in Market America, while “putzing around” for several

in his life and business. Born inChicago of middle-class parents,he began to pursue his destinyafter graduating from high school. When he entered the real estateindustry, he earned respect andnotoriety in only four years bybeing ranked second-highest residential real estate producer in Illinois. The high stress of selling real estate gave Todd theopportunity to ask himself someessential questions: “How can Icontrol my future, spend moretime with my family, and experi-ence personal freedom?” He examined the Network Marketingopportunity, and decided it wouldgive him and his family the

freedom and flexibility they want-ed and needed.

In 1991, Todd joined RexallShowcase International, his second Network Marketing company. His first month’s checkwas $8,000; the second month$15,000; and the third was$19,000. For the next six years,Todd’s annual income exceededan average of $1 million, and forthe last three years, his incomehas exceeded $2 million per year.He credits this financial success to the six other leaders he hassupported in achieving hugeincomes. He perse-veres where othersmay be unwilling to.Stepping out of his“comfort zone” waspart of the daily gameas he built his busi-ness empire. Toddbelieves that doingthe right things, anddoing them consis-tently, are keys to success.

Todd focuses onrecruiting new peo-ple, selling products, teachingothers how to recruit and sell, andfinally, providing leadership andsupport. “Being a balanced leaderis essential,” Todd says. Thismeans being a person of integrity, continuing to master communica-tion skills, remaining loyal andconsistent with the company’svision, and following through on

commitments. “After being fulltime in this business for ten years,I will say without hesitation, thatone of the greatest keys to my suc-cess has been my focus on beingthe best leader I can be, and in

duplicating that inmy people,” Todd says.

As for the future ofNetwork Marketing,Todd maintains thatit will thrive througha marriage of tradi-tional NetworkMarketing withcybertechnology.

“The future isonline,” Todd says.“Using the Internetto build a NetworkMarketing organiza-

ife was not always so easy forRay Gebauer. As a child, he

was teased and taunted by school-mates, as well as his stepfather. His boyhood left scars — a stutterand painful shyness.

In high school, he retreated tobooks, chess, wrestling and swimming. Though he planned on studying nuclear physics in college, he put it off for a year toattend Bible college. That yearturned into five, and a degreein Theology.

A few months after graduatingfrom college in 1975, Ray had his first encounter with NetworkMarketing, via Amway. Heenrolled on three different occasions, but never managed to recruit anyone or make many sales.

Through the years, he held oddjobs, including selling insuranceand working as a janitor. Numer-ous times, the companies eitherwouldn’t pay him or would go outof business.

At the same time, Ray was in and out of nearly 50 NetworkMarketing companies. The most he made was $1,000 amonth in a company that quickly went bankrupt.

Ray attributed his “inadequatepeople skills” to his failedattempts at building successfuldownlines. His professional lifecontinued to flounder throughoutthe ’80s and into the ’90s.

By 1994, Ray was living in hisfriends’ basements. He owed$25,000 on his credit cards and

$25,000 in personal loans, and his car had been repossessed.Through it all, Ray says that heremained hopeful andoptimistic. That atti-tude paid off.

In February 1994,Ray was introducedto Mannatechthrough a friend of a former colleague.Although he’d swornhe’d never getinvolved with anoth-er start-up company,something felt differ-ent this time.

Ray convinced his mother to givehim a $1,900 cash advance on hercredit card so he could get started. From the beginning, he spoke ofMannatech as a multi-billion-dollar company in the making.

He was inspired to be “annoyinglypersistent, in a quiet, neighborly

way.” A number of distributors heenrolled in his first few monthsadmit to turning him down four

or five times beforesigning up. Now,some of those samedistributors havedownlines of 20,000to 50,000 people.

Ray’s persistence paidoff as his downlinegrew. He has becomeone of Mannatech’stop earners, with adownline of morethan 250,000. He isconstantly develop-

Life was a struggle.

Sandy was $250,000 in debt whenshe joined a Network Marketingcompany and became a partnerwith her hero of the 1960s, JerryRubin. She eventually became 80percent of his downline build. But

in the beginning, Jerry didn’tbelieve in Sandy because of herbleak financial situation. Sheignored her pessimistic mentorand concentrated on building her business with home parties, traveling the Interstate 405 free-way corridor near her southernCalifornia home in her old van to conduct those parties.

During this period, Sandy devel-oped focus, initiative and began todraw the attention of those whowanted to be in business for them-selves. She pursued a dream offinancial stability for her family. After nine months in theNetwork Marketing business,Sandy earned a $2,000 check.Nine months later, her checkgrew to $14,000. “This truly life-changing weekend was nothing I had expected, and yeteverything I had hoped for. I anticipated another high-energy, on-your-feet, loud music, at-the-top-of-your-lungs kind of gathering. Instead, Igot a deeply moving, introspective event that will change my life andresonate in my heart and soul for many years to come.”

—Kevin CraigColorado

“Richard’s total, selfless dedication to supporting, guiding and helpingus was very moving. I have never attended a retreat where I felt simul-taneously so challenged and supported. I’ve spent my life pursuing personal development, alone and in groups, and I’ve never felt so completely transformed. All of my self-imposed blockages are eithergone or conquerable, both personally and professionally. I will never be the same!”

—Bob FaheyFlorida
