As our town gears up for football season, its only appropriate to celebrate how our TVs can do thesame. There have been countless lms made about sports, from the inspirational to the hysterical, andfootball lms are certainly the highest-ranking among them. As you don your Sooner gear for the fall, pop in a few of these movies before the game comes on to get you in the right mood. Take a look atwhat happens o the eld and on the set.

Remember the Titans (2000)If you havent seen this, drop the magazine immediately andget yourself a copy. This inspirational tale of an integratedfootball team overcoming distrust of each other, hatred fromthe town, and powerhouse rival teams is sure to leave youmoved. Denzel Washington stars as Coach Boone.

The Longest Yard (1974 & 2005)Both the 1974 and the 2005 versions of this lm will leave

you laughing. The story follows a former pro quarterback wholands himself in prison and organizes a team of inmates to play

against the guards. The original version stars Burt Reynolds,

who then reappears as the coach in the 2005 remake withAdam Sandler.

Rudy (1993)If at rst you dont succeed, take a lesson from Rudy. Sean Astin stars asRudy, the little guy who wants, more than anything, to play football forNotre Dame. He takes on extra jobs, seeks out academic help, and gives hisall at every practice and tryout that he can to get his chance to run out ofthat tunnel wearing blue and gold.

Invincible (2006)The NFL seems like an unreachable dream to most, until the Eagles get a new

coach. He opens up tryouts to anyone, and a local bartender and teachernamed Vince Papale decides to give it a try. He makes it onto the team,

inspiring fans everywhere who have dreamed of making it onto the eld thatthey love to watch.

These are, of course, only a small sampling of all of the lms that have been made about football. What are your favorites? Gather a few friends and pull them together for anything from the inspiringtrue stories of underdogs who made it to the top and dierences that were submerged by the need tounite, as well as new stories of how players make it to the end zone.

    Real Estate

Housing MarketWhat is the best way to measure the economy? Take a look at the housing market. Home prices and sales have been at thforefront of the daily news for the past few years. Media outlets have reported almost daily of the dismal home sales an

falling home values. Home sales and prices have always been the pulse of how our economy is performing. Great newAccording to the June reports from Real Estate Stats Navigator, homes closing in Norman are up over last year by 22%, thmedian sales price is up 2.98%, and the median asked-to-sales ratio is up .13%, giving Norman an overall 98.04% list priceto-sales-price ratio. Home mortgage rates are at an all time record low! Rates for mortgage loans have been hovering aroun3.25% for months. Interest rates on home loans have not been this low in 40 years, which makes now an opportune time tpurchase a home.

Norman has had continuous growth in the housing market for the 2012 year, and the trend is expected to continue. Any area that is experiencing growthwill bring with it career opportunities. Growth in the home sales and sales priceareas open the doors for many people who have been considering a careerchange or who would like to explore the possibility of increasing their income.A career in real estate can be very appealing due to the fact it does not requireyears of formal training and the initial investment to get started is relativelylow. And, as a real estate agent you can maintain a exible work schedule, which is also a draw to the profession. Keep those things in mind if you arethinking about a new career; real estate just might be your true calling.

The 2nd Friday Circuit of ArtFeatured Artist: Curtis JonesVisual Artist & Screenprinter

The Norman Arts Councils 2nd Friday Circuit of Art is acollaboration between artists, art organizations and businessesthat takes place, unsurprisingly, on the second Friday of everymonth at sites all over Norman.

This incredible celebration of local art and artists is fun forboth children and adults, and Main Street Magazine stronglyencourages you not to miss the next 2nd Friday on September 14.If you couldnt make it out on August 10, heres a glimpse of whatyou missed.

    Meet Curtis Jones.

I hadnt met him until I walked into the gallery on Main Streetthat night, but our photographer, an art student at OU, recognizedhim immediately as the professor of screenprinting at the Schoolof Art. As we waited patiently for Curtis to nish a conversationwith a fellow admirer, I got lost in one of his pieces on the wall asthe photographer discovered that another piece responded to him blowing on it as if to put out a candle. When it was our turn to express our appreciation of hiswork, we shook hands and snapped a few photos, and we left knowing how lucky Oklahoma is to have recruited such a master of his craft.

Curtis is the youngest of six children born and (mostly) raised in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. His fathers job moved his family everywhere from Philadelphiato Anchorage, Alaska, but Curtis returned to Washington where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from the University of Washington. Upon

graduating, he was determined to maintain his artistic values and worked odd jobs that landed him in at-shirt shop. There he was able to learn a lot from having to work with deadlines and picky designers. In2000, he moved to California where he was accepted to and graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts from theCalifornia College of Arts and Crafts in San Francisco. Then in 2005, he applied to the University of Oklahomawhere he still works today.

His mother introduced him to painting when he was young, and there is only one other traditional artist inhis family, an uncle that still makes a living as a naturalist painter. However, its his grandfathers hobo artthat inuenced Curtis artistic style. He was a farmer, carpenter and cabinet builder whose workshop was halfpractical, half devoted to what Curtis referred to as hobo art.

He worked with his hands. He made wind ornaments like

spinning cowboys, you know? He would buy old silverware atthe market and turn it into jewelry. That kind of stu.

I was interested to hear his response to one question in particular I asked him, Did the move to Oklahoma impact your artistic style? Curtis explained that the visual culture ofWashington and Oklahoma are not that dissimilar, both drawing inuence from Native American art. However, SanFrancisco was dierent as the artistic community related more closely to an international movement than regionalism.

Curtis Circles and Squares exhibition began 18 months ago, and he is excited to see how the narratives evolve. Checkout more of his work at curtisrayjones.com.

    NFL Predictions

You can follow Chris Joseph on ...

    @chrisjoseph1400

And listen to his show 360 Sports on Sports Talk 1400from 5-7 P.M. Monday through Friday.

ts that time of year again when Fantasy Football players get all geeked up and are preparingfor the big drafts for their teams. It also means it is time for REAL football to be underway.Last year in the Super Bowl the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots, PeytonManning is no longer a Colt and Tebow is a Jet -- that being said here are my predictions for

what I think will happen in this NFL season.

NFC EAST: This has traditionally been one of the toughest divisions from top to bottom. Thisyear is no dierent with returning Super Bowl champs the New York Giants, the wannabe dreamteam in the Philadelphia Eagles, the pressure growing on Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboysand the future in RGIII with the Washington Redskins. I feel the Eagles will play as they wantedto last year and win the division, and the Cowboys improved defense will help the Star make itinto the playos this year. Washington will improve but they join the Gi ants in not making theplayos this year.

NFC WEST: This division to me is really a t wo-team race, but only one team will make the playos. The San Francisco 49ers made a return to greatness last year under Jim Harbaugh with goodquarterback play from Alex Smith. They added Randy Moss and Brandon Jacobs to that oenseand will continue to dominate the West. The Arizona Cardinals are building a very good defensebut will struggle on the oensive side of the ball. The Saint Louis Rams led by Sam Bradford willcontinue to struggle moving the ball as well not obtaining any receiver help for Sam. The SeattleSeahawks with the new uniforms will look good but play horrible. The 49ers will be the onlyteam to make the playos from this division.

NFC SOUTH: This Division may be the most improved this year with likes of Cam Newton atCarolina and the young Bucs at Tampa Bay. The New Orleans Saints have the most to overcomewith players and coaches being suspended for the Bountygate issues. Drew Brees is signed andis going to make a ton of money, but can he lead the Saints marching back to the playos? TheAtlanta Falcons, still led by Matt Ryan, look to get back to a 12-win season. From this division Ihave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning and moving on to the playos.

NFC NORTH: The black and blue division returns to greatness with three really great teams andan average team in the Minnesota Vikings. The Green Bay Packers have a great oense and a baddefense. The Chicago Bears can be the most dangerous team this year in the NFC if Jay Cutlercan stay healthy; the window is closing on linebacker Brian Urlacher. Detroit and Matt Staordwelcome a host of Sooners and look to build on a playo run last year but fall a little short. I havetwo teams making the playos with the Bears winning the division and the Packers making thepost season.

NFC Playos: San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears will have the byes in the rst round ofthe playos. The Cowboys lose to the Packers and the Lions beat the Eagles. I have the Packersbeating the Bears and the 49ers beating the Lions, setting up a Packers-against-49ers NFCchampionship game and the 49ers punching their way to the Super Bowl.

AFC East: This has been a one-horse division for years, and the New England Patriots look tcontinue their dominance. The Bualo Bills look to be improved with better defense and a soliground game. The New York Jets are a circus while adding Tim Tebow, and with the cornerbackthinking they are the best receivers on the team, the green fall at on their face. In Miami thDolphins are still a subpar team and Ryan Tannehill will struggle as the quarterback. As thPatriots and Bills punch tickets to the playos this year, the Jets will be left wondering what thhell happened.

NFC NORTH: This is the strongest division in the AFC. The Pittsburg Steelers quarterback BeRoethlisberger says he has a partially-torn rotator cu not good for a quarterback to haveThe Baltimore Ravens have a slimmed-down Ray Lewis and still a mash-you-up defense, andRay Rice and Joe Flacco will nally pull it together. Cleveland has Brandon Weeden and TrenRichardson to lead an up-and-coming oense. The Bengals in Cincinnati led by Andy Dalton ana group of talented receivers including Jermaine Gresham are good but not good enough thi

year. The Steelers and the Ravens will battle it out again and make it to the post season.

AFC WEST: This division boasts some of the best rivalries with the Denver Broncos, OaklanRaiders, Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers. Denver has Peyton Manning aquarterback and a solid defense. Oakland is still Oakland and will not just win. The Chiefs wilstruggle as will the Chargers. The Broncos will stampede into the post season.

AFC SOUTH: No more Peyton Manning with the Colts. The Houston Texans made thebreakthrough last year with a solid ground game. The Jacksonville Jaguars had problems witMaurice Jones-Drew and getting Justin Blackmon into camp, and the struggles will continuduring the season. Tennessee will be better but not quite good enough as the Texans play bettethan the Andrew Luck-led Colts and they will make the postseason again.

AFC Playos: The Patriots and the Ravens have the rst-round byes. The Steelers beat the Texanand the Broncos beat the Bills. Second-round actions sees the Patriots beating the Steelers anthe Ravens knocking out Peyton and the Broncos, setting up Patriots against the Ravens for theAFC title. I have the Ravens making it to the Super bowl by beating the Patriots, setting up thHarbaugh Bowl.

Super Bowl: The 49ers and the Ravens will square o in the Super Bowl -- the head coaches arbrothers and both teams have amazing linebackers. I predict Alex Smith will make a few morplays than Joe Flacco and the 49ers will win another S uper Bowl.
