a Message From Your Seminar

leader, Tinashe Blanchet

Dear Colleague:

With lesson plans, grading papers, calling parents, and many other classroom responsibilities, it is often difficult for teachers to find time to research the latest tools we have available to support classroom instruction. Additionally, for most math teachers, it is a struggle to get many students truly engaged in learning. It’s been my experience that most students are not typically excited about fractions, equations or functions.

If you are fortunate enough to have one or more iPads in your classroom, I know that you want to make best use of them. The good news is, most students are so excited just to have an iPad in their hands, that it really does not matter what you teach, they will be engaged. The challenge most math teachers face is that because iPads are so packed with features they can become a distraction. In this case, it can be difficult to keep your students engaged and on‑task during your math lesson.

There’s more good news – there are tons of great free and low‑cost iPad apps available that will get your students excited about coming to your math class every day and keep them on‑task. In my class, students have used iPads to solve problems and share their work, explore graphs of functions in 2‑D and 3‑D space, to watch and create instructional videos, and much more!

I look forward to sharing what works and what doesn’t based on my experience using iPads with math instruction at the secondary level. I will provide you with a comprehensive list of all the iPad apps I have used with my students as well as tips and tricks to save you some valuable time and effort. It is my sincere hope that you leave this seminar pumped about returning to your classroom to try something new!

I look forward to meeting you!

Educationally yours,

Tinashe Blanchet

P.S. You will receive an extensive mathematics iPad technology resource handbook filled with descriptions of the best iPad apps for math and practical ways to use them in your classroom.

I look forward to sharing what works and what doesn’t based on my experience using iPads with math instruction at the secondary level.”
