Week 1: Introduction
• Overview of Program
• Logistics
• Ice-breaker
– What does it mean to be a man? (pre-test) (From Young Dads Program)
• Setting group and individual goals
• Develop ground rules
• Pre-test sexual attitudes and behaviors scales
Week 2: Choices
• The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (15 minutes)– A collection of vignettes told from the perspective
of three teenage boys, dealing with issues of passion, pregnancy, peer pressure and STI’s.
– Discussion to follow
• The Choices We Make– Young lovers struggle to make the right decision
about becoming parents.
– Discussion and exercises to follow – (Total= estimated 50 minutes)
Week 3: WIC Services
• Guest Speaker: WIC
– Representative comes in to talk about services
– Tour of WIC Center
– Q&A
• Men write up questions for Legal Aid Representative
Week 4: Legal Services
• Guest Speaker: Legal Aid
– Talk about rights and responsibilities as young fathers or expectant fathers-Answers questions-Open forum for Q&A and/or discussion
Week 5: Family Planning
• Reproductive biology
– Male and female diagrams
– Anatomical Models
• Contraception
– Birth Control Methods
• Charts and samples available
• Skill Building: Condom Demonstration– Male and Female Condoms
Week 6: STI’s
• STI Education– CDC Video: Why does it matter: Street Stories (3 min)
– CDC Video: What is it? (5 min)

– STI Roulette Game
• Representative from clinic comes in to talk about services CHC provides
• Field trip to Caring Health Clinics
Week 7: Sexual Communication
• Sexual Negotiation and Communication Skills
• Sexual Violence Prevention
• Talking with Partners• Simulation Scenarios
– Movie clips leading up to sexual situations
– Discussion about what happens next? What could have been done to make this a safer situation? What was done well? What’s missing? Etc.
(Based on FLASH lesson plans)
Week 8: Review
• Reviewing and Summarizing experience
• Providing resource information
• Post-test
– Re-visit “What it means to be a man?”
– Sexual Behavior and Attitude Scales
Week 9: Personal Improvement
• Guest Speaker: GED and job opportunities
• Exercise: List at least 5 skills you’ve learned
– What can you offer to your partner or child?
– Do you feel you’ve made personal growth and development over these last 9 weeks?
