THE MABLETHORPE AREA PARTNERSHIP: Open Networking Party at Holivans on Wednesday 27th June from 7pm
Last month’s AGM of MAP resolved unanimously to dissolve it as a c.i.c. but then to re-form it as a constituted community group going back to its original vision… as a partnership helping businesses, community groups, charities & statutory authorities all work together for our stretch of the coast, from Anderby to Theddlethorpe.
The government is acutely aware of the difficulties & opportunities of England’s coastline & so has set up COASTAL COMMUNITY TEAMS & is now each week alerting them to initiatives, to new funding & to the sort of things happening in our coastal communities. The teams are numbered from Cumberland round to Northumberland with us as number 98.
To make our Team as representative as possible we are inviting the members of MAP to nominate to it people who can speak for the different sectors of our community. And to keep MAP & CCT98 working along parallel lines they now have the same officers: Chair: Cllr Helen Matthews; Vice Chair: Gareth Rowlands; Treasurer: Janet Stubbs; Secretary: Adrian Benjamin It is useful that Gareth & Janet are also Directors of our Business Improvement District.
To join in this effort for our area do come along to the party at Holivans detailed above!

A CLASSIC DAY OF CLASSIC FUN
ABOVE: One of the many classic cars that fascinated crowds at the gloriously sunny Family Fun Day on May 20th.
Mablethorpe & District Motor Club were thrilled that almost 300 classic cars & motorcycles along with approximately 2,000 visitors enjoyed the free family fun day alongside a static vehicle display on King George V Playing Field. Chairman Gerry Blythe praised all those who had promoted our event to help make it a resounding success , & wished to say a special thank you to Steve Palmer, our newly elected Mayor & his Mayoress Cllr Pauline Palmer for opening the event & presenting the trophies later on in the afternoon. NB The date for next year’s show is Sunday 19th May 2019.

THE AGM OF THE BIG LOCAL COASTAL COMMUNITY CHALLENGE Wednesday May 23rd 2018 in the Community Hall: Extracts from papers presented then:
Feedback after the independent assessment on the Plan for the next three years: “The demographics have worsened ~ health, education, housing outcomes are poorer now than in 2013, worklessness is higher. Benefits changes have impacted negatively on local people & public services are collapsing. The partnership is keenly aware of these shifts & tries to work with the Town Council to address some of them… “There is a lot in this Plan & it’s ambitious & broad. The partnership is much better organized now & more outgoing & they seek to work with a wide range of partners, & they are persistent in seeking to forge relationships… “The partnership has a relatively long list of “Legacy” projects & it’s important to remember that not everything that is achieved will be visible, especially as some of the legacy will be more in improving & transforming lives, creating jobs & supporting new businesses rather than in physical changes.”
Chairman’s Annual Report: “We have worked on several new exciting projects, for example, with the Marisco Patient Group in conjunction with Magna Vitae, the facilitation of an exercise referral programme to encourage & enable patients to improve their health. We have also worked closely with Hope House by commissioning a pioneering pilot initiative for the homeless within our community…. “Over the past year we have worked in partnership with the Community Payback team. Each week the team has worked with on community projects from clearing sand off the promenade, disabled ramps & steps, to cutting back & clearing St Mary’s Park whilst working in the gardens of many of our community building, plus Trusthorpe Cemetery. This has been at absolutely NO COST to Big Local. This is just one example of how we are working in partnership with many organizations. We have worked in partnership with the Town Council, ELDC, County Council, Mablethorpe in Bloom & Mablethorpe Art Group...”

Pictured left: Our MP Victoria Atkins recently met Cllr Tony Howard, Chairman of the Lincolnshire Association of Local Councils, ELDC Chairman & one of our Town Councillors in Parliament to discuss a range of issues affecting our town & parish councils.
In particular Tony raised concerns as to how the new data protection laws could place an undue burden on Parish Councils.
Following these discussions, Victoria lobbied the Minister responsible for introducing these new laws & was then later pleased to be able to announce that an exemption has been granted to ensure that small Parish & Town Councils are not tied up in red tape with GDPR.

BALLOONS (&MORE!) to celebrate a very special birthday…
I am Debbie Prince, the Scheme Manager of Reverend Bill Baker Court, Sutton-on-Sea which is part of Anchor Housing.
Frank Fischer who is a resident at Marisco Court, Anchor Housing came to me last year as his wife Lilian has dementia & he wanted to do something for the Charity. I knew Frank loved to walk but he had given it up to look after his wife. I suggested a half marathon walk which we did on 6 July 2017, which was his wife's birthday. After the walk we did a presentation to The Alzheimer's Society for £753. Frank said at the time if he lived to be 80 then we would do the walk again this year. So, here we go again! On Friday 6 July 2018 we will be walking the half marathon again for The Alzheimer's Society. We will be setting off from Marisco Court at 10am.
This is just such a huge achievement for a 80 year old. Frank would love to raise £1,000 this year so if anyone would like to sponsor us, please pop into Rev Bill Baker Court or contact Debbie on 01507 443 431. If you see us out & about doing the half marathon walk that Friday, please give us a cheer & a wave because Frank is truly an inspirational person.

Need your help please... you probably saw on TV the Blooming Marvellous show in which Mablethorpe In Bloom featured. What was it they said was our main downfall?
IN BLOOM: CHAMPIONS FOR MABLETHORPE UNITE!
Yes… the High Street, its untidiness & lack of blooms. We've upped the blooms this year, but need help with the clearance of weeds, unsightly areas, & general tidying up.
This will be a weekly meet until judging early July when the judging will take place. So can anyone who's free from our wonderful community, please meet us in The Louth Hotel at 6pm on Thursdays. It will only be for an hour. All equipment will be provided.
Do help us gain a Gold this year & put us back on the map!
And if you can help at any other time contact the Mablethorpe In Bloom Chairperson Susan Sheekey leaving a message at the Coastal Centre.
Or simply DO IT YOURSELF: If you see a weed weed it & if you see litter pick it up & drop it in a bin!

HORSE POWER OR HORSE SENSE? A man was driving from Louth to Mablethorpe at the dead of night. Withern of course is pretty dead in the daytime & it is even deader at night so it was pretty well disaster when the car engine started to cough & splutter. Slowly it died away, leaving him stuck on the side of the road in total silence. And his mobile’s battery was flat as well. He opened up the bonnet & looked to see if there was anything that he could do to get his car going again.
Unfortunately, he had a limited knowledge of cars, so all he could do was look. And he couldn’t see much anyhow as the moon had gone behind some clouds. He cursed his luck. Suddenly, through the inky shadows, came a deep voice, "It's your fuel pump." The man turned round quickly, striking his head on the underside of the bonnet. "Who said that?" he demanded. There were two horses standing in the fenced field alongside the road & the man was amazed when the nearest of the two horses repeated, "It's your fuel pump. Bang it with your mobile phone & try it again." Confused, the man did as the horse suggested & sure enough, the engine roared to life. He muttered a short thanks to the horse & screeched away. As soon as he came in sight of the lights of Mablethorpe he made straight for the Book in Hand dying for a drink & anxious to off-load his tale. “Am I crazy?” He asked when he had finished. “Nope, not mad, just lucky,” said Dave Lascelles who happened to be propping up the bar. “Why lucky?” the man asked. “Well,” said Dave, “It was the black horse that told you what to do, not the white one?” “I think so,” said the man. “Hard to tell as the moon had gone behind a cloud.” “Must have been,” said Dave. “As I said you’re lucky. The white one hasn’t a clue about cars.”
