«SONO RIENTRATA ora dalla prima vera vacanza dopo sette anni, mi sono ricordata per cosa è fatta l’estate», ci ha spiegato Malika Ayane (da pronunciarsi con la e muta come Zidane, una volta per tutte). Giusto il tempo di disfare le valigie e ripartire. Questa volta per Venezia, dove ha preso parte alla giuria per la migliore colonna sonora tra quelle dei film in concorso alla Settantaduesima Mostra del Cinema.

NAÏF è il titolo del suo ultimo e quarto disco, uscito su etichetta Sugar. Naïf: «Un aggettivo che rappresenta lo spirito che bisogna tornare ad avere. La realtà è fatta di crepe e cose in cui inciampare. È importante saper riconoscere la genuinità. Senza prendere tutto troppo sul serio. Ridotto ai minimi termini significa che il mio obietti-vo è intrattenere. Naïf sta per ingenuità nella sua declinazione più bella: il tempo ha una scadenza per cui bisogna continuare a stupirsi e divertirsi, cosa che negli ultimi decenni sembra non siamo più capaci di fare». Naïf. «Sì, come Paolo Conte», ci spiega Malika. Già, Paolo Conte, il cantautore di Asti: l’italiano con quella faccia un po’ così capace di stregare Parigi e riempire l’Olympia con la sua voce di ruggine, per niente melodica. Naïf, appunto. «Paolo Conte incarna il concetto precisamente per come lo intendo: si diverte. Mi ha insegnato che bisogna divertirsi. Ecco perché quando ho un disco nuovo è il primo a cui voglio farlo ascoltare. Questo il suo monito: ricordare che l’atteggiamento che bisogna avere rispetto alla musica è divertircisi, perché la musica deve restare il centro di se stessa». A PARTIRE DAL VIDEO Senza fare sul serio, a noi sembra che questa ragazza il monito lo abbia colto eccome. Coerentemente naïf. Divertita e colorata. «Detesto la prepotenza da liceo che ci vuole tutti omologati, per la quale si ride sotto i baffi appena qualcuno si discosta dal modello estetico imposto: bisognerebbe cercare di ribellarsi e fare ciò che piace a noi. Sennò va a finire che non si vive come si vorrebbe, ma come vorrebbero gli altri». Anche se, bando all’ipocrisia, «l’apparenza è importante per fare il mio lavoro. O sei un fenomeno come Adele, soprattutto in questo momento storico in cui non si ca-pisce quale sia la voce autorevole e quale non lo sia, oppure l’apparenza conta eccome: si è sempre sotto osservazione e spesso a prescindere dalla bravura».

L’APPARECCHIO per i denti lo ha messo a trent’anni. Fisso. Quello con quelle placche d’acciaio che fanno tanto adolescenza difficile – ma per lei di difficile non c’è stato niente. Lo ha mostrato senza timore alcuno ai riflettori di Sanremo: «Se hai i denti storti e l’unico modo che hai per raddrizzarli è quello… Ho iniziato a rendermi conto che avesse un impatto quando a Sanremo mi hanno chiesto perché non lo togliessi per l’occasione. Ne ho fatto una questione di orgoglio nerd», (ride). «Voglio far notare che si fanno cose tremende sulle facce della gente con la chirurgia plastica e nessuno dice nulla. Altro che apparecchio per i denti». Malika si congeda con l’allegria di chi sente che il futuro le appartiene. Di cosa non puoi proprio fare a meno? «Di viaggiare» – e le scarpe? – «Sì dai, anche delle scarpe, ma solo perché mi servono per viaggiare». ✴

«I’VE JUST COME BACK from the first real holiday I’ve had in seven years. A holiday that reminded me what summer is for» Malika Ayane told us (her name, let’s say it once and for all, is pronounced with a silent e, like Zidane). Just in time to unpack her bags and be off again. This time to Venice, where she was a member of the jury for best soundtrack at the 72nd Venice Film Festival.

NAIF is the title of her fourth album, released by Sugar. Naif, naïve: «An adjective that represents the spirit that we should return to. Reality is made of cracks and obstacles one might trip over. It’s important to recognize genuineness and to learn not to take everything so seriously. Bluntly put, what I mean is that my goal is to entertain. Naif is about ingenuity in its most beautiful sense: time has an end, so we should let ourselves be surprised by what’s around us and have fun, something that we haven’t been so good at in the last decades». Naïve. «Yes, like Paolo Conte», explains Malika. That’s naïve. «Paolo Conte is a perfect embodiment of what I mean: he enjoys himself. He taught me that one must enjoy oneself. This is why whenever I have a new album, I want him to be the first to listen to it. He says one must remember that the right attitude towards music is to have fun with it, because music must remain the center of itself».

JUST BY WATCHING THE VIDEO of Senza fare sul serio, we can tell that this girl has un-derstood Conte’s advice very well. She is consistently naïve. Playful and colorful. «I hate that high-school bullying kind of attitude that would want us all homologated, that laughing-up-your-sleeve whenever someone goes off the beaten track in terms of mainstream aesthetic canons. We should try to rebel against all this and choose what we like. Otherwise instead of living life on our own terms, we end up trying to live up to other people’s expectations». Although, let’s face it, «looks are important in my job. Either you are a phenomenon like Adele – especially in this particular moment in time when it’s hard to understand who is the most influential voice and who is not, or otherwise looks do play a tremendously important role: your appearance is always scrutinized often regardless of your talent».

MALIKA started wearing braces at thirty – those full-on metal bracket braces instant-ly creating that troubled-teenage-years kind of look. There was nothing hard about it for Malika who nonchalantly sported her braces on the stage of the Sanremo Music Festival: «If your teeth are crooked that’s the only way to straighten them… I started to realize my braces had an impact when in Sanremo I was asked why I didn’t take my braces off for the event. At that point it became a matter of nerd pride for me» (she laughs). «I’d like to point out that people have the most dreadful things done to their faces with plastic surgery, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. Braces are nothing compared to that sort of thing». Malika takes leave with the cheerful attitude of those who feel the future is theirs. What can’t you live without? «Travelling» – and what about shoes? – «Ok, yes, shoes too, but only because I need them to travel». ✴
