Sustainable Land Management, Desertification, Biodiversity &
Adaptation to Climate Change (LDBA)
An integrated AMCEN/AU/NEPAD Flagship Programme

Goals of LDBA
• Build an effective knowledge base & network • Support the development of adaptive capacity for
climate change • Provide support to existing platforms for policy
dialogue • Promote innovative actions & strategic
projects/interventions • Establish and document linkages with environment and
ecosystems to economic growth and poverty reduction
LDBA Will Contribute to:
Millennium Development Goals
LDBA Expected Outcomes & Impacts
• Increased awareness, interest and knowledge of stakeholders
• An integrated approach• Wider use of more
effective and sustainable management of ecosystems
• Better coherence and a more streamlined climate change adaptation activities
• More resources available for land, climate and biodiversity related activities
• More robust M&E

LDBA Implementation Strategy
• A complex and cross-cutting programme, including:– A logical framework indicating the objectives, impact, outcomes,
outputs, performance indicators and activities – as well as M&E – Strategy of risk assessment and mitigation measures
• Strong resource mobilization to ensure sustainability
• A Multi Donor Trust Fund for the LDBA (and other Flagship Programmes), with resources from country, continental & sub-regional contributions as well as from partners
• Actions responding to MEAs – contributions from various relevant funding
How can the LDBA support integrated landscape management in Africa ?
THANK YOU.
