In addition to this, Esco Power developed a complete Hybrid Electric Solution Package HESP. This package consists of a compact efficient electric motor, a complete electrical cabinet with installed frequency inverter, PLC and diesel engine control box. All hybrid functions are controlled and shown on a 7’’ or 15’’ touch screen. A high quality lever head and mode select buttons give you an easy and perfect hybrid command.

When choosing ‘diesel mode’, PHT clutch will be engaged and conventional way of diesel navigating is selected. Your lever

leads you from idle to maximum diesel power and speed. When choosing ‘electric mode’, PHT clutch will disengage diesel

engine from driveline. Your lever gives full movement with E-power only, up to maximum

allowed with the installed E-power. When choosing ‘automatic mode’, you select a unique HESP operation mode : Your lever operates first with a limited movement in E-propulsion up to what is maximum allowed with E-power installed and then switches automatically, after synchronizing diesel speed, to diesel power, and can go with continued lever movement up to maximum diesel power and speed.When in diesel mode or in diesel operation, the generator mode can be selected to generate power to the batteries. When selecting marine gear override, you can generate power to the batteries at quay or at anchoring, keeping marine gear in neutral position.Last but not least, the HESP system provides a Back-Up mode ! To secure operations, the hybrid system can be switched off and you can operate in the conventional way as emergency system.

Batteries, battery management system and shore connection can be offered in association with a battery specialist partner. Of course, we can complete the solution package with a proper Twin Disc marine gear, preferably a QuickShift® model for the extremely soft and fast engagements.

Parallel Hybrid Solution with PHT

As part of the Belgian Esco-group, Esco Power is known for solutions in transmissions for industry and marine applications. It’s logic that they were asked for hybrid solutions for these markets. Looking to the market, they didn’t find any optimum proposal. So Esco Power decided to develop a complete new and unique concept, especially for heavy duty applications. The Parallel Hybrid Transmission PHT was born!

The Parallel Hybrid Transmission PHT unit can be easily built in with SAE connections between the diesel engine and the marine gear, is equipped with elastic coupling to connect diesel engine flywheel and has a strong electro-magnetic clutch 24 or 110 VDC to connect or disconnect diesel engine from the driveline. The PHT has an extremely efficient helicoidal gear train. The unique integrated ratio of 1,47 or 1,70 makes your E-power more effective at the driveline. Due to this your installed E-power with PHT is the most effective of the market! Power curves confirm this. Many customers recognize happily the value of PHT !

PHT ratio makes your installed E-power completely available on the propeller driveline !❱ More E-power performance on the propeller curve.❱ More reserve on use in the entire E-power range.❱ Smaller E-power installation package can be considered.

Comparing different hybrid solutions, we can conclude that the performance with PHT ratio is the best :PHT-ratio 1,7: E-power 75 kW/1800rpm will be able to propel up to ±1000 rpm (before marine gear)Hybrid-no ratio: E-power 75 kW/1800rpm will be able to propel up to ±750 rpm (before marine gear),Hybrid with high speed E-motor and no ratio is not able to operate by E-power above ± 600rpm (before MG).

Due to the unique feature of our ratio, we can optimize the speed for generator/electric motor to get optimum efficiency where you need it. We are benefitting of this ratio by having more torque at slow speed at the driveline, exactly what slow speed cruising vessels are looking for! Thanks to the ratio with a much smaller E-power package we can have similar results at the driveline. Parallel Hybrid Transmission PHT

Important : More input/output torque per model can be accepted after approval of our application engineers !

The Parallel Hybrid Transmissions PHT are designed for heavy duty applications to transmit a maximum torque following our clutch recommendations, have a built-in 24VDC electro-magnetic clutch, working independently from any other part of the transmission to engage and disengage the diesel engine from the driveline. The PHT has a SAE input housing and elastic coupling for direct connection to the engine housing and flywheel or can be equipped with a high elastic coupling for freestanding installation. The output housing & flywheel make it possible to mount the PHT directly to the marine gear.Very strong PTO/PTI: up to 1500 Nm. Unit is executed with ratio of PTO/PTI 1.47 or 1.70.

Our hybrid electric solution package, or short called HESP, gives your application a full operational electric system in combination with a PHT model and an electric energy supply.

Scope of supply

Electric motor/generator to mount on the PTO/PTI of our PHT units ranging from 10 kW up to 300 kW and from 1500 rpm up to 2600rpm. Thanks to the ratio of the PHT we have the ability to reduce the size. These compact, high efficiency motors are 400 Volt AC nominal (requires 560 VDC batteries), water cooled and equipped with encoder for speed pick up and temperature sensor. To be connected at the PTO/PTI of the PHT.

Built in Frequency drive with DC line 530-700 VDC in IP55 locker with air cooling. In DC feeding mode the inverter is 4 quadrants, through this the motor can work as a generator or motor. Built in PLC, controlling all hybrid operations and communications (see hybrid power control software) Built in Control box for diesel engine and marine gear: Electronic control of Diesel engine & marine gear and connections to lever head control. The electric motor drives themarine gear or transmission directly through the PHT gears with a ratio (1.47 or 1.7) which decreases the electric motor rpm and increases torque. PHT clutch is disengaged to disconnect diesel engine from driveline. Lever position 0% ->100% for electric operation (100% = max prop speed for electric power). Diesel engine can be switched off.

Standard diesel engine propulsion, with clutched PHT. Lever position 0% ->100% for diesel operation (100% = full diesel engine power/diesel engine speed),Option to generate at the same time.

Starting in electric mode, with similar procedures, but lever position 0% ->40% for electric operation. (40% = max prop speed for electric power), automatically switching to diesel operation, after checking diesel needs and synchronising engine with E-motor, and with similar procedures as diesel mode with lever position 40% ->100% for diesel operation.

Boost Function (optional)

When diesel engine is in operation, with clutched PHT, generator can be active. At quay or anchoring, Generator mode can be active after override of marine gear (lever head).

When there is a problem in the hybrid system, any kind, which cannot be solved immediately, a secured Back-Up button is available. Standard diesel engine propulsion, with clutched PHT. Lever position 0% ->100% for diesel operation (100% = full diesel engine power/diesel engine speed). No hybrid functions, as generator, available in this mode, as PLC & hybrid software are bypassed.

In the optional function Boost, chosen from the touch screen, the PHT clutch is engaged so the diesel engine is running. The electric motor is also running synchronised with the diesel engine and adding the torque to the driveline at input of the marine gear. The electric motor takes his power from a generator set or from on board batteries. This way you can reduce diesel engine size when max power is only used for a short time or save fuel by running the diesel engine at limited power and adding power from the electric motor.
