Miss Man Show CompetitionSure to be the highlight on Saturday at 8pm is the Miss Man Show Competition on the Co-ors Light Stage! Local girls will compete for a chance to win prizes to jump start or boost their careers in the modeling industry. Come out and vote for your favorite contestant and help de-cide who gets crowned Miss Man Show!

Nicole Behar RacingSpokane’s own Nicole Behar is a NASCAR Next driv-er, and will be at the show throughout the weekend signing autographs. Also, her Toyota K&N Nascar will be on display.

Rock CrawlingBack by popular demand is the Rock Crawling ex-hibitions brought to you by Mountain Mafia En-tertainment and Rock Placing Company. Watch the area’s best off road

machines showing off on the obstacle course made of boulders. These guys never grew up, their toys just got bigger and more expensive!

Drift TrikesBrought to you by Lethal Customs these aren’t your ordinary trikes. Very few people have seen them before and even fewer have had an opportunity to ride one, until now. Hop on & put your drifting skills to the test!

Dirt Go KartsWatch Sunset Speedway’s Junior 1, Junior 2, and Adult classes battle it out on the dirt oval track.

Car BashingBack by popular demand is the Destruction Zone. If you’ve never smashed a car with a baseball bat or a sledge ham-mer, chances are you’ve thought about it. Now here’s your chance. Ev-eryone feels better after a good car bashing session!

Diesel DynoBrought to you by Diesel Power Products and Hur-ricane Diesel Performance and Repair. See the area’s biggest and baddest trucks competing for prizes and bragging rights. Or enter your truck in either a stock or modified class and see what kind of power you’re putting to the pavement. Representatives from ATS Diesel, Industrial Injection, Dynomite Diesel and BD Diesel will be there showing their newest products and answering questions. 3 Ways to register:

1. Go to www.DieselPowerProducts.com/p-13843.aspx (Pre-register)

2. Stop by the shop; 5204 E Broadway Ave Spokane Valley WA 99212 (Pre-register)

Rock Climbing WallOne of the favorites for the kids is always the Rock Climbing Wall brought by the Army National Guard.

Nerf WarsBrought to you by Strike Zone Arena. Enter a huge inflatable maze of bunkers armed with a nerf dart gun and see how long you can survive.

Helicopter RidesA thrilling experience like no other! Fly with Inland Helicopter and see our city from a birds eye view. A rare opportunity that you don’t want to miss! Rides are $35 per person, or 3 people for $90, all three days of the show (weather permitting).

Beer GardensOf course it wouldn’t be a Man Show without a cold beer and beautiful women. Enjoy craft beers in one of our two beer gardens with top notch service provided by Borracho Tacos & Tequileria located in downtown Spokane.

Indoor Halloween Haunted MazeEnter if you dare into a maze filled with haunting ghosts, scary monsters, and zombies from beyond the grave. While lost in the maze you will encounter inter-active attractions, freaky displays, and real live crea-tures out to get you. If you don’t get caught you may make it out alive!

Spokane Shock CheerleadersSee live dance perfor-mances on the Coors Light Stage by the Spo-kane Shock Dance Team. Meet the cheerleaders, get an autograph, or have your picture taken with them. Be sure to stop by the Spokane Shock booth any time throughout the weekend and enter to win Shock season tickets.

Live MusicJoin us for live music Fri-day and Saturday after-noons on the Coors Light Stage. The beer garden will be rock’n with lo-cal bands including The Nixon Rodeo!

FundraisersAt the Man Show, we and our vendors strive to give back to the community. Bring a can of food for the Sec-ond Harvest Food Bank and receive discounted admis-sion into the show. Get a haircut at the Man Shop booth and the proceeds will be donated to the Wounded War-riors. Rescue the teddy bear from the burning house and contribute to Firefighters for Kids. Participate in Pro Builds Action Course and donate to the Suicide Prevention Fund. If you’re thirsty visit one of the Beer Gardens and order a drink to contribute to the Spokane Lions Club. Any one of these options is a great way to help people who need it the most in our community.

MMA MatchesWatch local amateur fighters go toe to toe

in the cage presented by Warrior Camp. Full contact matches will be held at various times throughout the weekend.

Longhorn Barbecue’s Battle of the Pits BBQ CompetitionLonghorn’s 3rd Annual Battle of the Pits is Spokane’s pre-mier BBQ event hosting the best competitive teams from all over the Pacific Northwest. In this PNWBA sanctioned event the teams will be competing for $5,000 in cash, bragging rights, and overall 2016 PNWBA rank-ings. Come out and talk with the pit masters and learn what they do and how they do it!

Several Styles!

Most of us have mastered our home theaters, inte-grating a nice surround sound system with the

TV, adding in a Blu-ray player, an Xbox or a Playsta-tion, possibly even a smart TV box like AppleTV or a Roku. This leaves us all in the same boat, multiple remote controls for all of our devices, and wives who will never know which remote operates what device. We start thinking of that one amazing remote control that will control all of our devices perfectly...and there are some out there, but while we are at it, why not real-ly take that new remote to the next level and add some home automation? We’ve seen what home automation can do on shows like MTV Cribs (back in the day), touch one button on the remote and the window shades go down, the lights go down, music comes on, and maybe even a gas fire-place starts burning. These things are no longer reserved for the Rap Roy-alty, or the Pro Ballers, but are now something that we can pick up on our next outing to the hardware store.

We’ll cover some of the home automation kits that will control heating and cooling, lighting systems, securi-ty, and even voice activated security. We’ll also cover some of the smarter Universal remotes that will not only take the place of some remotes, but also let you program events that show off the true power of your home automation system.Entry level light systems are pretty easy to install. You can buy a kit from many of your local big box stores that will give you a remote and a dimmer switch to mount in the wall. I chose a system from Lutron, and it was very easy to install, however the remote was large, bulky and ugly. But as most people do, I was able to use my smart remote to learn the features and take the place of the stock remote. One other thing that you will want to keep an eye on: with some of these systems you will hear a buzzing from the lightbulbs when you turn the lights up. It took me a little time to

realize that not all light bulbs are created equal. Make sure that you purchase bulbs that are specifically made to be dimmable, and you won’t have to deal with the annoying buzzing sound.Home Automation kits - There are so many ways you can go, but if you are serious about automating you’ll want to start out with a system that will allow you to keep adding on and growing. In this case you’ll pur-chase a hub that will control Light Switches, Thermo-stats, Door Locks, Garage Doors, Water Valves, Energy Monitors, Environmental Sensors, Cameras and the list keeps growing. One of the highest rated models for 2015 is the HomeSeer HomeTroller-SEL. Not only will this control the household items you want, but it is even compatible with Apple and Android Smart-phones and tablets, in essence turning your phone into your remote control. If you want home automation, but feel the install is a little outside of your wheelhouse, you still have op-tions. Xfinity (Comcast) offers different packages for your home, and they will also install it for you. Some of the common features available through Xfinity are: fire and carbon monoxide monitoring, remote lighting control, thermostat control, appliance control, live vid-eo surveillance, security cameras, alarm systems and real-time text and email alerts. Keep in mind though that a service like this will incur a monthly charge, you’ll just have to weigh the convenience and peace of mind against the price to see if it makes sense for you. A super easy addition to your home theater that has incorporated automation are the new generation of Smart TVs and devices. With the new AppleTV, Am-azon Fire Stick and Roku all now offering voice acti-vated searching, the days of slowly moving the cursor around a screen selecting your keyword letter by let-ter “Ouiji Board Style” are long gone. Now you can simply hit a button and say “Ralph Macchio” and find any movie he has appeared in. You may be surprised to know that he has been in more than just the Karate

Man Cave Essentials: Home Automation Options

A Hub for your Home Automation system is no harder than plugging in an HDMI cable for picture and an ethernet cable for connectivity.

Kid movies. As with the AppleTV, they have already built in the ability to control the device if you already own an iPhone. If you don’t you can still program your remote to control the SmartTVs as well.At many point in this article I have hinted at using an all in one remote control. Now I‘m not talking about the all-in-one remote that you see hanging in the checkout

lanes at Target. They do serve a purpose, but they are not for the likes of the Technologically Advanced such as us. Not even the Cadillac of remotes will serve our purposes. Let’s focus our attention on the “Millenium Falcon” of remotes. Behold the Logitech Harmony Ul-timate Home remote.I have been a fan of the Harmony remotes for a long time, and they just keep getting better. The new gen-eration with the Harmony Hub connects to your home wifi network, so you do not need IR or line of sight to control your device, which means you can turn up the music from the next room. I suppose you could also turn down the music from the next room as well...but why? This remote will integrate with Lutron lighting sys-tems, Playstation, Xbox360 and Xbox One, Blu-ray Players, receivers, DVD players, you name it. Many times you can download the code from the internet for your device, but for some obscure devices you may need to point the remotes head to head and teach the Harmony the buttons on your other remote. One of the features I use the most are the one-touch activity commands. For me, hitting the power button will turn on my projector, receiver, Blu-ray player, all in one touch. When watching a movie in a dark room, I can press the pause button, and not only does it pause the movie, it also brings the room lights up to 50%, so

you don’t blind yourself with the bright light. You can create many different events to suit your needs.Logitech also offers a free app for Android and iPhone users, so if you forget to charge your remote control, then you always have a backup with your phone.Home automation can be had at many feature levels and many price points, all you need to do is decide what features you need and start building.
