The Nova SBE Management Acceleration Program will provide you with a solid background in the building blocks of modern business, as well as a personalized development plan enabling you to maximize your potential, overcome any current limitations and ensure that your learning will be effectively deployed on the ground. With the help of our experienced faculty team, we will help you master your ability to speak the language of business to all of those in your company’s ecosystem who might play a part in moving your career to the next level.

The journey begins

Your journey on the Management Acceleration Program begins with you. At Nova Executive, we appreciate that while you have a good deal in common with your fellow participants, your specific skills and needs are unique and require individual attention. Before the classroom phase begins, we will ask you to complete our pre-program questionnaire, which will form the basis for a series of one-to-one interviews with your personal learning development tutor. Your tutor will help guide you throughout the program and beyond, with advice on your unique learning and development needs, and on how to leverage your newfound knowledge to maximum effect in building your career.

The academic program

During the program, we will follow four complementary development pathways. These pathways include elements of analytical learning, as well as the all-important know-how which will enable you to apply your knowledge on the ground.

As you progress along the pathways, you will apply your learning incrementally to a team-based business challenge project which will run throughout the program, culminating in a final presentation pitch. We have found that this process of continuous applied learning is the best way to ensure that your newfound knowledge and capabilities are solidified and strengthened, and that you remain driven to succeed and shine throughout. As you collaborate and negotiate with your teammates, the applied learning project also enables you to put into practice some of the core learning in teamwork, negotiation and communication, and provides ample opportunity to share knowledge and skills with people from varied business backgrounds and sectors.

Journey’s end?

At Nova SBE, your learning journey does not end with your successful completion of the program. In your program exit interview, your personal learning development tutor will help you to plan concrete steps in your future development path, and guide you to get the most out of your newfound status as a member of the worldwide Nova SBE Alumni family.

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF MANAGEMENTGood management is undoubtedly a judicious blend of science and art, and like any complex discipline, needs to reflect a changing society. We will address the four core management activities: Planning, Organization, Direction and Control, and in each case will compare traditional approaches with new paradigms for organizations in the modern business world.

MY PATH TO LEADERSHIPPreconceived notions of leadership which view it as an innate quality possessed only by the few are no longer seen as valid. The truth is that leadership can be studied and learnt, and that different leadership styles suit different circumstances and environments. By leveraging the positive aspects of our personality as others see it, we can all find the leader within and recognize the strengths we can bring to organizations and teams.

LEADING HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAMSAs the most common working unit of modern business, any manager needs to understand the potential and the difficulties inherent in team work. The role of the team leader is a delicate balance between direction, facilitation and motivation, and getting that balance right is the key to understanding the power of the team.

HOW PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONSRecent advances in the fields of behavioural economics and neuro-science have given us valuable new insights into the human decision-making process. Knowing what factors influence the decisions of your team-mates, your boss, your peers and, more importantly, your customers, can give you an enormous head-start in understanding their motivations, and in persuading them to make the right decisions for you.

QUANTITATIVE BUSINESS ANALYSISOur ability to analyze figures and data and to make substantiated decisions or recommendations is paramount. This refresher module on the key maths and statistical models needed for management will review the basic language of business mathematics, before addressing probability, and particularly the use (and misuse) of normal distribution curves in analysis and prediction.

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF ACCOUNTINGWhile not every manager requires in-depth understanding of the complexities of business accounting, an ability to grasp the interrelation among the three principle accounting documents is crucial to understanding legal responsibilities, interpreting core data and analyzing trends.

THE PRINCIPLES OF FINANCEHaving gained a solid understanding of the principles of accounting, we take you on a practical journey through the ins and outs of setting up a new company, and the key financial information needed to help you avoid pitfalls and ensure success. Through a business simulation, we will see that profit is not the only variable to consider in business decision-making, and can even lead companies to fail.

THE ESSENCE OF STRATEGYProbably the most overused and misunderstood term in modern business, strategy can in fact be boiled down to a small number of simple, essential concepts. Getting these right from the outset will make or break a business, but even the most coherent strategy will fail if people are unable to apply it on the ground. This module takes a practical view of strategy as a process involving four simple questions whose answers and application will define the success or failure of any business project.

BUILDING KEY RELATIONSHIPS Most management textbooks will discuss people management from the perspective of managing peers and subordinates. But this approach fails in most cases because it neglects the crucial relational factor in hierarchical relationships – that your boss also needs careful managing! This module will help prepare you to deal with all aspects of the organizational hierarchy, but will be especially useful in improving your current and future relationships with your bosses.

THE ECONOMY WE COMPETE IN Consumers and firms in competitive markets have to make decisions about how to allocate their scarce resources. This affects the supply and demand of goods and services, which in turn affects the price you are able to charge and hence your profitability. A solid notion of the key variables in the economics of the firm will help you to plan, predict, price and analyze more confidently.

MARKETING FOR IMPACTWhere to sell, who to sell to, how to sell it and at what price are vital questions for the success of any business venture. We take a practical view of the modern marketing process and how it can impact on the sales, profitability and sustainability of any venture.

NEGOTIATION SKILLSAn ability to negotiate the best deal possible is key to improving your performance and credibility within your organization. But it is also vital to remember that one-off deals are rare, and that ongoing relationships are the deciding factor in sustained business success. This seminar will enable you to strike the right balance between optimizing value for your organization and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships.

COMMUNICATING FOR SUCCESSPerhaps more than any other skill, the ability to persuade through communication is key to your personal future success. From persuading a team to go beyond their limits, to persuading your boss to give you that challenging new project, to persuading a customer to sign a deal, the art of persuasion can bring benefits in every walk of life.

Our application process has a written phase and a personal interview phase with our academic team. The written phase is exclusively online, through the Management Acceleration Program dedicated page, which you can access through our site: exed.novasbe.pt

There are three simple stages to the process:

1. Complete your application form online, and upload with your current Curriculum Vitae.

2. You will be notified of acceptance and will be asked to fill out your online personal development questionnaire.

3. We will contact you to set up your one-to-one interview with a member of our academic development staff, where we will discuss your suitability for the program, as well as your personal learning development path.

In order for us to consider your application for the Management Acceleration Program, there is a refundable* processing fee of €250.

This fee is deducted from the total amount of your tuition fees if your application is successful. Should your application be unsuccessful, we will refund the full amount within 30 working days.

* We regret that if your application is successful and you decide not to take

the program, we can not refund your initial application fee.
