Management Information Management Information SystemsSystems
(MIS) (MIS)
All information processing systems are designed toproduce information. The
taskof these systems is
arrangementand recording of the
necessaryinformation.
2
Definition of MIS as a major is “people, computing
devices,input/output terminals and the composition of
the possibilities of communication”. This system
provides reports to business management and staff for
carrying out tasks.
3
The computer is an important feature of this
system. Because manager of any establishment
can not hold all information in his memory.
4
MIS ComponentsMIS Components MIS has three components:
1. A reporting system which warns management about issues to be considered
2. Hardware and software as a computer-based database
3. A terminals network which will provide information within and outside of business.
5
Requirements For A Requirements For A SuccessfulSuccessful MIS MIS A single structure of MIS is not available to
solve problems in all organizations and businesses. There are some basic rules regardless of the business structure, complexity and selected computer system for efficient MIS.
6
The most prominent rules are summarized below:
The manager should believe this system with his desire, stability and contribution.
System should give some sort of early warning signals.
The system must be flexible and open to development.
The system should understand meaningful results quickly.
Consequently, an ideal MIS has an appropriate balance between two important functions.
7
Design Of A MISDesign Of A MIS The creation of a MIS design can be
considered at three different levels.
Simple Data Processing System Integrated Data Processing System Total Management Information System
8
1. Simple Data Processing System1. Simple Data Processing System Simple system is composed of a
combination of the functions that is named applications.
The advantages of a simple system is low initial cost, low operating costs, identifying needs in the convenience.
9
Outputs of the system in general are in multi-page reports. Therefore, there is a significant disadvantage in this system.Simple system will never develop into an integrated system.
10
2. Integrated Data Processing 2. Integrated Data Processing SystemSystem Growing memory capacities of computers,
increasing speeds and developments in the database software help design an integrated system in a variety of computing applications. Thus, the concept of a data processing system is emerging.
However, the main problem of this system is the cost of the establisment of an integrated data processing system.Due to this problem, departments can not set up their systems and they can not do their jobs here.
11
3. Total Management Information 3. Total Management Information SystemSystem Total MIS is an integrated data processing
system that supports decision making process with facilities.
Outputs are designed by the most appropriate way at the appropriate time and delivered to the appropriate management level decision-makers.
12
Important Points Important Points The source of the data should have special
care. The system must be realistic and show the
enterprise as well as the distribution of power.
An information system must respond to needs of people.
.The relationship between economics, safety, ergonomics, pedagogy, usefulness, modularity, ease of use and contradictions should be brought into a synthesis while system is being designed.
