The cancellation request must include: the name of the course, name of the person registered, name of the person requesting the cancellation, and the reason for the cancellation. No refunds will be issued after Friday, October 5, 2018. The UNC School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education Program cannot be responsible for the refund of any part of the registration fee as a result of emergencies, unforeseen circumstances, or events beyond its control after the cancellation date.

The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will present the updated and current recommended management of permanent tooth trauma in children. The speakers will address complicated and uncomplicated dental fractures, dental intrusion, avulsions, concussions, luxations, alveolar fractures in the mixed and permanent dentitions, and orthodontic management of dental trauma.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

1. Utilize the most up-to-date fundamentals for the diagnosis of dental trauma in permanent teeth in children and adolescents.

2. Employ current concepts of splinting luxated and avulsed permanent teeth including those associated with alveolar fractures.

3. Manage traumatic pulp exposures by relying on evidenced-based concepts.

4. Identify treatment strategies for avulsed teeth using a clinician friendly flow-chart based on the best current evidence.

5. Evaluate new concepts and how to integrate them into your practice regarding pulp regeneration and decoronation.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST: In accordance with the ADA CERP Standard V., everyone involved in planning or presenting this educational course will be required to disclose any relevant financial relationships with commercial interests and this information will be made available to participants at the start of the course. The Friday Center is located on Friday Center Drive just off Highway 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. A continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided with your paid registration.

Dr. John Christensen received his DDS degree from the University of Iowa and completed specialty MS degrees in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD). He has made numerous contributions to the peer-reviewed professional literature and reference text books including being an editor of the 6th edition of Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy Through Adolescence. In addition, he has been an invited speaker at many local, state, national and

international meetings and CE courses. Dr. Christensen has a private practice of both specialties in Durham, NC. He also holds an Adjunct Professor appointment at the UNC-SOD where he teaches both didactic and clinical orthodontics to the pediatric dentistry residents.

REGISTRATION FEE AND CREDITThe registration fee is $300 for dentists and $160 for team members. The UNC School of Dentistry designates this course for (up to) 6 hours of continuing education credits.

Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson graduated from the University of Iceland with a DDS. He came to the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD) and completed a residency in endodontics and was awarded both a certificate and MS. He remained at the UNC-SOD and taught there for twelve years, including serving as the Graduate Program Director of Endodontics for seven years. In 2004, Dr. Sigurdsson returned to Iceland where he maintained a private practice of endodontics

in Reykjavik and in London, UK. In 2012, he moved back to the US and became an Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Endodontics, New York University College of Dentistry where he continues to serve. Dr. Sigurdsson is a past-President of the International Association for Dental Trauma and serves as the Editor of the International Association of Dental Trauma website, in addition to serving on numerous other journal editorial and scientific advisory boards. He has authored over 98 published papers in peer reviewed journals, contributed 20 chapters to reference textbooks and given invited lectures in over 43 countries. Dr. Sigurdsson is a Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Jessica Lee is the Demeritt Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD). She has previously served as the departments Graduate Program Director. Dr. Lee received her DDS from Columbia University and a MPH from the Columbia School of Public Health before completing a residency in pediatric dentistry at UNC-SOD. She also earned a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the UNC-CH

Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Dental Research and on the editorial board of many others. Dr. Lee has had a long-standing research interest in dental traumatology and has published over 100 papers in the refereed literature in addition to contributing five chapters in textbooks on the subject. Dr. Lee is a widely sought after CE speaker both nationally and internationally.

1. Utilize the most up-to-date fundamentals for the diagnosis of dental trauma in permanent teeth in children and adolescents.

2. Employ current concepts of splinting luxated and avulsed permanent teeth including those associated with alveolar fractures.

3. Manage traumatic pulp exposures by relying on evidenced-based concepts.

4. Identify treatment strategies for avulsed teeth using a clinician friendly flow-chart based on the best current evidence.

5. Evaluate new concepts and how to integrate them into your practice regarding pulp regeneration and decoronation.

TIME & LOCATIONThe program will be held at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. Check-in will begin at 8:30am. The program will be held from 9:00am – 4:30pm. The Friday Center is located on Friday Center Drive just off Highway 54 on the east side of Chapel Hill. A continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided with your paid registration.

Dr. John Christensen received his DDS degree from the University of Iowa and completed specialty MS degrees in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD). He has made numerous contributions to the peer-reviewed professional literature and reference text books including being an editor of the 6th edition of Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy Through Adolescence. In addition, he has been an invited speaker at many local, state, national and

international meetings and CE courses. Dr. Christensen has a private practice of both specialties in Durham, NC. He also holds an Adjunct Professor appointment at the UNC-SOD where he teaches both didactic and clinical orthodontics to the pediatric dentistry residents.

REGISTRATION FEE AND CREDITThe registration fee is $300 for dentists and $160 for team members. The UNC School of Dentistry designates this course for (up to) 6 hours of continuing education credits.

UNC School of Dentistry is a nationally accredited provider. Regulations may differ from state to state based on current legislation and/or various certifying organizations. Individuals are responsible for verifying acceptance of credit hours by their state boards or other licensing agencies. Individuals should check with their licensing boards/agencies for specific questions.

This continuing education program is presented by the University of North Carolina

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson graduated from the University of Iceland with a DDS. He came to the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD) and completed a residency in endodontics and was awarded both a certificate and MS. He remained at the UNC-SOD and taught there for twelve years, including serving as the Graduate Program Director of Endodontics for seven years. In 2004, Dr. Sigurdsson returned to Iceland where he maintained a private practice of endodontics

in Reykjavik and in London, UK. In 2012, he moved back to the US and became an Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Endodontics, New York University College of Dentistry where he continues to serve. Dr. Sigurdsson is a past-President of the International Association for Dental Trauma and serves as the Editor of the International Association of Dental Trauma website, in addition to serving on numerous other journal editorial and scientific advisory boards. He has authored over 98 published papers in peer reviewed journals, contributed 20 chapters to reference textbooks and given invited lectures in over 43 countries. Dr. Sigurdsson is a Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Jessica Lee is the Demeritt Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD). She has previously served as the departments Graduate Program Director. Dr. Lee received her DDS from Columbia University and a MPH from the Columbia School of Public Health before completing a residency in pediatric dentistry at UNC-SOD. She also earned a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the UNC-CH

Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Dental Research and on the editorial board of many others. Dr. Lee has had a long-standing research interest in dental traumatology and has published over 100 papers in the refereed literature in addition to contributing five chapters in textbooks on the subject. Dr. Lee is a widely sought after CE speaker both nationally and internationally.
