CHAPTER – 1INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
Ever since early man discovered fire and cheered an end to raw meat, celebrations have united human communities in honoring momentous events, rites of passage, religious observances and more. Celebrating as a group bestows a sense of belonging, something crucial to human fulfillment. From birthdays to funerals, there is no end to the celebrations of who we are, where we came from, what we’ve done, what we worship and even who or what we’ve lost.
In the modern world, celebration has become a part of one’s life. There are many celebrations all over the world. Some of them are funny and interesting, some are traditional or religious. No matter what they are; without celebrations we can’t enjoy our life fully. There is something deep inside humanity that loves to celebrate the best things in life. We love to celebrate the occasions that mark special holidays or family traditions.
There are many important things in life. Learning, growing, loving, and exploring are all things that each person should take time for. Celebration is another important thing for this list as it adds excitement and a lot of fun to life.
Celebrations make life more enjoyable and interesting. Celebrations are the occasion where we express our love and affection towards a person. It reminds the people of important days or great time in the year. It gives a chance to know the unknown persons in our family, to meet the old friends, to meet new people, etc…
People miss no opportunity to set mundane matters aside and join with family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike to feast and have fun, to renew the home and the heart. A celebration in a family gives pleasure to all the members of the family. Friends and relatives also attend the occasion and share the pleasure.
Celebrations are perhaps more impressive and varied from different religions, different areas of people, communities, etc... Every celebration is centered on the rituals of prayer, seeking blessings, exchanging goodwill, decorating houses, wearing new clothes, music and dance, and feasting.
Food and beverages are must in nowadays occasions. Alcohol or liquor is an unavoidable aspect of every celebration. Irrespective of age and
gender, all are involved in enjoying alcohol during the special events. Taking dress materials, distributing gifts to near & dears, renovation & painting of house,
jewellery purchase, arrangements of decorations, meeting of family members, relatives and friends, night party reception, music, dance, DJ party, etc. are also very important in celebrating special events.
There are cultural, religious as well as traditional celebrations in the world. Today, all are celebrating each and every moment irrespective of their religion and customs. Nowadays, unfortunately, a festival means people get a holiday, and we’ll wake up only at twelve noon and eat a lot and go for a movie or watch television at home. It wasn’t like that earlier. A celebration meant the whole town would gather in a place and there would be a big merriment.
Celebrations allow us to relax and unwind in the midst of our mundane lives. We use them as an excuse to gather with the friends and family that mean most to us. As we celebrate, we allow the stresses of life to fall behind, energizing and recharging with the change of mood.
Celebration can happen for a variety of formal or informal reasons. Probably most people have gone to a celebration in honor of someone’s birthday, wedding, or the birth of a new baby. There is something deep inside humanity that loves to celebrate the best things in life. Celebration doesn’t have to be reserved for the biggest events or holidays of the year though. Because the majority of our days are spent doing trivial tasks like working or cleaning our homes, we all need things to look forward to.
As India is a secular country, full of diversity in the religions, languages, cultures and castes, it is always crowded with the people involved in celebrations. Celebrations highlight various aspects of a society. We love to celebrate New Year, birthdays, Valentine ’s Day, festivals, Onam, Diwali (festival of lights), Eid, Christmas, Holi, accomplishments, achievements, acquirements, deaths, weddings, anniversary, acceptance into schools, winning the game, scoring the most points, getting the trophy, making it to the top, moving into a new apartment, buying a new pair of shoes, etc…
There is something about a great celebration that reminds us of the purpose of our life and of the power of our closest relationships. By celebrating the completion of every small step, we leverage the powerful energies
of gratitude and momentum. Thomas Edison taught us that “even each mistake along the way is cause for celebration”.
Life is all about the journey, and that means that every step, as well as reaching our destination, is part of our journey. Celebrating at every juncture is recognition of a life well lived and well worked. Celebration builds self-respect and helps to keep respect to others too.
Celebrations are meant to rejoice special moments and emotions in our lives with our loved ones. They play an important role to add structure to our social lives, and connect us with our families and backgrounds. They give us a distraction from our day to day, exhausting routine of life, and give us some inspiration to remember the important things and moments in life.
CHAPTER – 2RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The methodology followed in conducting the project has been described. Details regarding the research design, data collection questionnaires, sampling plan, area of study and statistical data have been given.
RESEARCH DESIGN:
A research design is an arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure.
In this project, we follow descriptive research design.
Descriptive research is a study designed to depict the participants in an accurate way. More simply put, descriptive research is all about describing people who take part in the study.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To find on which celebration does the money is spend more.
2. To know whether the people are demonstrating celebrations from films.
3. To analyze whether celebration increases consumption of alcohol/liquor.
4. To identify whether celebration strengthens family relationships.
SAMPLING METHOD:
In this project we followed convenience sampling method. Convenience sampling is a non-probability sampling technique where subjects are selected because of their convenient accessibility and proximity to the researcher.
SAMPLE SIZE:
The sampling size of the project is limited to 20 students of ADI SHANKARA BUSINESS SCHOOL, KALADY.
PRIMARY DATA:
Primary data is the data collected about the topic from original source in first hand. Information has been directly acquired through involving opinion of the students. Primary data was collected by providing questionnaire to 20 students. The questions are printed in a defined order in the form of a schedule. The schedule contains 20 questions like multiple choice and objective types.
SECONDARY DATA:
Secondary data is the data that have been already collected by and readily available from other sources. It is collected in order to obtain some more detailed information through internet, books of famous authors, magazines, websites etc...
LIMITATIONS:
1. The scope of the study was limited to the 20 students of ADI SHANKARA BUSINESS SCHOOL.
2. The secondary data collected was not much informative and reliable.3. The accuracy of the study depends upon the response of the students.

CHAPTER – 5FINDINGS AND SUGGESTIONS
FINDINGS
The survey was conducted to find out the results of our objectives.
1. Most of the respondents to the survey were of the age group 20-30.2. Majority of the respondents were male (65%).3. 70% of the respondents were from the Hindu community (70%).4. As most of them were from Hindu community, best part of the respondent
celebrates Onam (60%).5. 80% expends below 10000 for celebrating the events and none spend
1, 00,000/-.6. Majority agrees that alcohol is avoidable during the occasions (50%).7. 70% had the opinion that alcohol consumption is more among the youth.8. Most of them shared that decorations are not must for celebrations (50%).9. Majority of the respondents spend only below 10000 (80%).10.Majority (50%) responded that all the family members/relatives visit the
events.11.Most of the respondents attend all the functions conducted in the family
(80%).12.Majority chose family members/relatives to celebrate the functions (50%)
and the next majority prefers friends (40%).13. 60% of respondents prefer normal kind of celebration.14.Majority (45%) says that somehow films influence the mode of celebration.15.Only 30% demonstrate celebrations from films and TV shows but majority
(50%) says that they are not demonstrating the same.16.Most of the respondents spend more on jewellery items during the
occasions (60%).17.75% expend below 50000 on reception and night parties.18.Most of the respondents assure that celebration helps in strengthening the
relationships (85%).19. Major part of the respondents guarantee that celebrations have a positive
impact on making relation between people (85%).
SUGGESTIONS1. The gifts provided must be something which will be useful to them in life.
For e.g. books of famous authors. 2. Organize a taste of cultural events instead of spoiling the celebrations with
DJ party.3. Celebration can be made healthier and happier by providing charity to
charitable organizations or to the people who are required in need of meeting their livelihood.
4. Avoid the consumption of alcohol or liquor as it is injurious to the health and the body.
5. Make the celebrations as normal and simple as possible.
CHAPTER – 5CONCLUSION
CONCLUSIONToday the life style and standard of living has totally changed. Celebrations have become one of the routine habits of everyone’s life. Celebrations have a very special part in our daily life and human spend a lot of money on various occasions. They are expending a lot mainly for the preparation, decorations, jewellery, textiles, food and beverage, etc… Today, people celebrate each and every moment irrespective of religion, communities, tradition and custom. Celebrations are markers in our lives just as rites of passages are. Celebrations have a very crucial role in building and maintaining of healthy and positive relationships.
Celebrations are the occasions where people relax their mind and body and forget their busy life and routines for sometime or a day or more than that. The families are nuclear today and celebrating events will make the young generations to know about their unknown relatives and meet the old ones also. It further helps them to maintain affection, love and care with all of them. Celebrations have become very luxurious nowadays. The young generation is fond of celebrating even a single incident happen in their life. Most of the new gens are demonstrating the celebrations from films, TV shows, etc… They are so much influenced by the DJ parties and beverages consumed by the celebrities in films.
In contrast of all of these, we all have to remember one thing; there are a lot of people who are unable to eat, drink, or even do not have clothes to wear. We are celebrating each and every incident in our life, wasting a lot of food, spending lavish money especially on dress, food and beverages, jewelers, gifts, etc… But the poor ones are not enjoying any of the luxury available in the earth. So, let’s celebrate along with the poor one’s to make them happy and to see the smile on their faces.
