SantaBarbaraCA.gov/ParksAndRecThese locations were chosen because they represent some of the Citys original parks and so provide a window into park management and maintenance throughout the entire lifespan of the Parks department. Understanding the historical intent and vision of the parks and plazas included looking at tree plantings and removals through time as well as identifying original plantings that still stand today.2

SantaBarbaraCA.gov/ParksAndRec3Informing tree replacement plans includes understanding what tree species were historically in the parks, what species still exist in the parks, and what species could potentially be introduced into the parks.

The similarity with the 2015 aerial suggest that canopy cover has not changed drastically in the intervening seven decades. 9
