RE: CITY CAPITAL PURCHASE

Water Treatment Plant

Acid Feed Pump

Two chemical feed pumps used to add sulfuric acid to the treatment process, primarily for odor

control. Both acid pumps are approximately 10 years old, have been rebuilt several times, and

are at the end of their useful life. Also, the existing pumps are not properly sized to the

application (feed rates) necessary for optimum efficiency. They are oversized and have

difficulty maintaining target pH levels on a consistent basis. Operators have experienced

fluctuations in pH results due to losing prime and not feeding proper amounts of acid. The

existing pumps operate at very low percent stroke (6% at 3.5 gallons per hour), whereas a

smaller size pump would achieve the lesser required gallons per hour at more efficient

operating percent stroke. This would allow operators maintain proper pH levels and keep

hydrogen sulfide odor levels to a minimum.
