*Monday March 2 7pm: Mysteries On Main discusses The Fox by Frederick Forsyth. (Cheney) *Tuesday March 3 7pm: From Bean to Coffee. Daybreak Coffee Roasters of Glastonbury will bring a sampling of their coffees for tasting, as well as talk about the difference between commercial and craft coffee, the process from bean to cup, and flavor notes in locally sourced coffee. Bring your favorite coffee mug! Registration is required; call 860-645-0821 to register. (Cheney) *Thursday March 5 7pm: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book Club discusses Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. (Whiton) *Saturday March 7 2-4pm: Holi Festival Party. Ring in Holi, an ancient Hindu holiday also known as the Festival of Colors, with this all-ages party. We will have colorful crafts, food, and music to get you dancing. Bring an old t-shirt to be decorated with fabric paint. (Cheney) *Monday March 9 7pm: Jordan Freeman: The Right to Set People Free. Historian Kevin Johnson will reenact the life of Jordan Freeman, the African-American servant of John Ledyard and the body servant of Col. William Ledyard during the Revolutionary War. (Cheney) *Tuesday March 10 6-8pm: Paint a Garden Planter. Are you looking forward to spring and planting season? The Firestone will lead a garden planter painting session for adults at the library. Registration is required through The Firestone’s Facebook page, @TheFirestoneCT. This program is FULL. (Cheney) *Wednesday March 11 6:30pm: Medicare 101. Vincent Errico, Medicare Benefits Consultant, will guide you through the Medicare process. Learn how Medicare works, the difference between Supplement and Advantage plans, and about Medicare Prescription Drug plans. Registration is required; call 860-645-0821 to register. (Whiton) *Thursday March 12 10am-12pm: T-Shirt Tote Bag Craft. In collaboration with the Manchester Senior Center. Join us as we recycle t-shirts into tote bags. Bring a special t-shirt that you don’t want to part with or use one of ours. Participants must be a Senior Center member to participate in this program and register by calling 860-647-3211. (Manchester Senior Center) *Friday March 13 2pm: Cheney Cinema. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, rated PG, 1 hour and 49 minutes long. (Cheney) *Saturday March 14 12:30pm: Recipe Readers cook The Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer. Participants must call and register for this program and indicate which recipe they are bringing to share. (Cheney) *Saturday March 14 2-4pm: St. Patrick’s Day Wreath Craft. (Cheney) *Monday March 16 7pm: Adult Book Discussion Group reads Inland by Tea Obreht. (Cheney) *Tuesday March 17 7pm: Twenty-One Truths About Love: How An Act of Desperation Gave Birth to a Novel. Internationally bestselling author and 45-time “The Moth” Storyslam Champ Matthew Dicks will speak about the writing and stories behind his latest novel, “Twenty-One Truths About Love.” Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing. (Cheney) *Wednesday March 18 6:30pm: Back to Manhattan: A Life in New York. Local writer and lecturer David Garnes will speak on his latest book, a collection of memoir essays about his life in New York from 1963-1981. Copies of "Back to Manhattan" and Garnes' other books will be available for purchase and signing. (Whiton) *Saturday March 21 2-4pm: Sassenachs and Scots. Step through the Stones and celebrate your love of all things Outlander! From 2-3PM we'll have food, crafts, games, coloring, and quizzes, and from 3-4PM test your Outlander knowledge with trivia. No registration required for this adult program. (Cheney) *Monday March 23 7pm: The Basics of Home Brewing. Brewer and owner Adam DeLaura of Labyrinth Brewing will give an informal talk on the beer brewing process, geared towards beginners. (Cheney) *Wednesday March 25 7pm: Not So “YA” Book Club discusses The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. (Whiton) *Thursday March 26 1-3pm: Seniors Game. In collaboration with the Manchester Senior Center. We will have a variety of classic board games available to play, and board game guru Jenn will be one hand to teach new board games. This program is for seniors age 60+. (Cheney) *Thursday March 26 6:30pm: Local Author Book Talk: Juliet Grames. Grames, a former resident of Hartford county, will discuss her debut novel The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna, which was published by Harper Collins in 2019. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing. (Whiton) *Saturday March 28 12-4pm: Census Program. Come to learn more and ask your questions about the U.S. 2020 Census. (Whiton) *Monday March 30 6:30pm: Introduction to Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing). Alexandra Lowry of The Wisdom Alliance will talk about the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, also known as forest bathing, and will teach you how to intentionally connect with nature, unplug from technology, and spend more time outside. (Whiton) *Tuesday March 31 6:30pm: Dare to Teach: The Life and Legacy of Prudence Crandall. Historian and Assistant Principal of Shelton High School Carolyn Ivanoff will tell the story of Prudence Crandall, Connecticut’s State Heroine, who opened a school in Canterbury in 1833 to teach African-American girls. (Whiton)  

Programs  for  Teens    

*Tuesdays 3-4:30pm: Make It, Take It. (Grades 5-8) March 3rd: Scratch Paper Art. We will make our own scratch paper and then make designs on it. Come satisfy your itch for fun art! March 10th: Upcycled Dog Toys. Make a dog smile and help the environment by creating a dog toy from old t-shirts. We will supply the shirts. March 17th: Lucky Shakes. We will make delicious festive shakes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. March 24th: DIY Optical Illusions. Things are not always as they seem. Join us as we create optical illusions with everyday things that can be found in your home. (Cheney) *Wednesdays 6-8pm: Middle School Gamers. (Grades 5-8) Join us for some friendly competition as we play Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Wii. Computers will also be set up for Minecraft and Roblox. (Cheney) *Saturday March 28 2pm Learn to Make Ravioli. (Grades 6-12) Katie Shepherd RD from Food Explorers will teach teens how to make ravioli from scratch. Registration is required; call 860-645-0821 to register. This program is FULL.
