ITINERARY

Wed. July 19 – 6:30 a.m. – Depart from the Houma – Terrebonne Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Blvd., Houma, on our comfortable motor coach and begin our New York Summer Spectacular journey. We travel to the Atlanta area and overnight at Fairfield Inn & Suites, Atlanta Gwinnett Place.

Thurs. July 20 – We arrive in Charlotte, NC, around lunch time and visit the Billy Graham Library, a 40,000-square-foot experience where you’ll discover the life and legacy of America’s Pastor. Take part in Journey of Faith, a tour designed to reflect Billy Graham’s passage from a humble farm boy to an international ambassador of God’s love. Lunch is on your own at the Graham Brothers Dairy Bar. We overnight in Durham, NC, at Hampton Inn and Suites.

Fri. July 21 – Today we travel though North Carolina and Virginia and arrive in Washington, DC around noon. You’ll have free time to explore a Smithsonian Museum of your choice – National Air and Space, Museum of Natural History, American History Museum, or the American Indian Museum. We’ll overnight at Hilton Garden Inn in Mount Laurel, NJ.

Sat. July 22 – Mid morning we meet our NY guide for a ferry ride to Ellis Island, a place which is likely to connect with more of the American population than any other spot in the country. Visit the immigration museum and see where over 12 million immigrants were processed as they entered the US. On our cruise to Ellis Island you’ll have the best view of the Statue of Liberty. Lunch is on your own in the cafeteria at Ellis Island. Next we visit the 9/11 Museum. This moving, historical exhibition tells the story of what happened on 9/11, including the events as the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the story of Flight 93. Late afternoon check-in at the Novotel, New York located in the heart of the theater district at 52nd and Broadway, with a beautiful large outdoor patio overlooking Broadway. Dinner is included this evening at a small Bistro just 1 ½ blocks from the hotel. The rest of the evening is free; perhaps you will purchase tickets to a hit Broadway musical.

Sun. July 23 – Breakfast is on your own. Our guide will suggest local venues or you can eat at the hotel. This morning enjoy a comprehensive driving/walking Tour of Manhattan. See this fascinating city’s highlights and various neighborhoods. Enjoy lunch and shopping on your own around 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Center. A visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral will be included. Later we visit Radio City Music Hall for a backstage tour. (Please note there are two small series of steep stairs). Learn about this historical famous music hall and meet a Rockette! Midafternoon we return to our hotel and the rest of the evening is free. Perhaps you will try a trendy restaurant, reserve tickets for a comedy or jazz club or maybe just shop and people watch.

Mon. July 24 – After breakfast on your own, we check out of the hotel and depart for the United Nations for a guided tour. Interact with one of their multilingual tour guides while learning about the work of the United Nations. Visit the newly renovated General Assembly Hall, the Security Council Chamber and other areas. Lunch is on your own at Grand Central Station before we depart for Penn Station where we board an Amtrak Train for a scenic and relaxing ride along the Hudson River to Poughkeepsie, NY. Late afternoon we check into the Hampton Inn and Suites in Fishkill, NY. Dinner is at a local’s favorite.

Tues. July 25 – This morning we depart with a local guide for a full day of touring the Hudson Valley. Travel to Hyde Park and explore the lifelong Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, America’s only 4 term President. Our visit will begin at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center with an introductory film. Next enjoy a guided tour of FDR’s home and take a self-guided tour of the Museum. Lunch today is included at the famed Culinary Institute of America, after which we have a guided tour. This afternoon we visit Madava Farms where Crown Maple syrup is created. See the state-of-the-art facility and learn first-hand about the artisan practices that make pure maple syrup one of the earth's most precious natural products. This evening dinner is on your own in Rhinebeck, NY.

Wed. July 26 – After breakfast we depart again with our local guide and travel to West Point. Enjoy a 90 minute guided tour of this famed Military Academy. A buffet lunch is included at the Thayer Hotel. Later we enjoy a cruise on the “Rip Van Winkle” along the Hudson River. Dinner tonight is at Mohonk MT House. This Victorian castle was built on spectacular cliffs above the deep blue waters of Lake Mohonk in 1869. Their grand hotel has welcomed families for generations.

Thurs. July 27 – We check out of our hotel then visit Philipsburg Manor, the welcome area for touring Kykuit, a Classical Revival-Style Villa completed in 1913 for John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil Company, and home to 5 generations of Rockefellers. After touring the villa, lunch is on your own at Philipsburg Manor. Next we visit the Union Church of Pocantico Hills. View stained glass windows created by Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall. A docent will offer a presentation on the windows and their history. This afternoon we say goodbye to New York and travel to Lancaster, PA. Dinner this evening is at Miller’s Smorgasbord. Our home tonight is Heritage Hotel in Lancaster.

Fri. July 28 – Today we venture out onto the “Roads Less Traveled” though the heart of Amish farmlands. Enjoy picturesque scenery as we meander across country roads viewing Amish farms, one room school houses and farmers working the fields with their horse or mule-drawn plows. Stop at a quilt and craft shop right on an Amish farm. Next visit Kitchen Kettle Village. Stroll through this village of 42 shops and restaurants built around a nationally celebrated jam and relish kitchen. Shopping here is like a treasure hunt with everything from handmade quilts to Brighton leather goods and so much more. Lunch is on your own at the village. Later we make our way to Roanoke, VA, and our hotel, Hyatt Place. Dinner is on your own.

Sat. July 29 – Today continue traveling through Virginia and Tennessee and overnight in Gadsden, AL, at Fairfield Inn & Suites. Breakfast

Sun. July 30 – We make our way back to Houma today with wonderful memories created during our fabulous New York Summer Spectacular journey.
