The MANIFOLD VALLEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The Society was formed to foster competition and fellowship within the rural

community of the parishes bounding the course of the River Manifold.

Generally, entrants at the Show are limited to those who reside, own or rent property

in these parishes. There are exceptions to this rule for the Heavy Horse section, the

Rare Breeds, a number of the Cattle and Craft Classes and for all of the Pet Classes

and Driving section.

It is hoped that this policy will encourage local youngsters and new entrants to the

showing world.

Membership of the Society has many advantages, including free admission to the

Show for you and your family, the use of the Members Marquee and it’s bar. There is

also the benefit of reduced Entry fees.

More information about membership and an application form can be found on the

inside back cover.

THE GEORGE RICHARDSON MEMORIAL BURSARY

George Richardson was President of the Society for ten years and had been involved

since the creation of the Society twenty four years ago. In memory of his contribution

the Committee decided that it’s annual Student Bursary awarded to students about to

embark on a higher education should be renamed the “George Richardson Memorial

Bursary”. The amount awarded is generally in the region of £300-£400 per year.

Applications are now invited for the George Richardson Bursary for 2017. Any

interested students should contact Mark Simcock on 07971 961570 for full details.

Application forms are also available on the MVAS web site.

Students should be local, that being resident in one of parishes bounding the course of

the River Manifold, as listed on the inside of the front cover. Applications should

reach the secretary no later than 30th September 2017.
