Manilla Central School Newsletter K-12 Newsletter No 31 Monday, 24 th September, 2018 Secondary – Phone: 67 851 184, Fax: 67 852 138 Primary – Phone: 67 851 599, Fax: 67 851 705 A big thank you to everyone who made a purchase at the book fair. From this year’s sales we were able to keep books for our primary library to a value of $485.00. Despite sales being down this year, we are understanding of the hardships many families are currently experiencing right now as a result of the drought. And so we are truly appreciative of the support still demonstrated at our book fair. The primary library will now be preparing for a stocktake to be held at the beginning of next term. So if all students could take the time this week or during the holidays to search for any library books and please return them to the library. Heidi Hawley Rural Fire Service On Thursday, last week, the Manilla Rural Fire Service came and spoke to 4/5 Bandaarr about fires. Bradley from RFS did a presentation, it showed the different types of fires, the fire triangle which is made up of fuel, oxygen and heat. The RFS showed us the uniforms that they wear when fighting fires. The RFS showed us the fire engine, we got to walk through where some of the RFS members sit in the fire engine. We got to have a go at the hoses and we saw how the front hoses worked by trying to spray Mr Ward, we only got his shoes and the bottom of his pants. We enjoyed our visit from the RFS and we hope they can come again. Meaghan Hawley – 4/5Bandaarr From the library.... Last week the primary held its annual book week celebrations. The theme this year was “Find Your Treasure”. Leading up to book week students helped contribute to the display poster and they looked at a number of the CBCA shortlisted books for 2018 in various categories. It was fantastic to see so many students and staff getting involved in the book parade that was held on Wednesday. It was great to have along visitors from preschool, daycare and playgroup. Awards were presented to students in each class for the love and commitment they have displayed to children’s literature. Congratulations to Seith West, Archie Martin, Soul Mackie-Moss, Eavie Rollason, Tyler Barrett, Sophie Maxwell, Addison Buffett, Jack Ormiston, Sekora Daley, Jade Kesterton, Abbey Kelly and Jamie-Lee Dodds.
