These students earnt their position to this fantastic event via their presentations of their Agrifuture’s proposals of the Hydrocrate and Eperb Pouch. Millie, Meegan, Rayah, Jess and Chalm travelled down to Sydney on Thursday for an early start on Friday at the Business College of Sydney University. The girls participated in University style workshops with industry leading professionals and entrepreneurs, learning how to critically think outside the box, and solve complex issues. To finalise the day our girls had to present their pitch to four judges and a lecture theatre full of strangers and other competitors. A somewhat terrifying thought for our girls. But as usual, with a lot of preparation and some words of wisdom from Mrs Taylor and myself, the girls shone like diamonds, really stepping up to the occasion. Although the judges only announced one winner, the four judges approached our girls after the event and whispered ‘you were both sharing a very close second place..... how amazing.... A colossal effort and a credit to their character and personalities. It was so good to see our girls rubbing shoulders with so many schools from all over Australia including multiple exclusive private schools from around Sydney. And as per the judges’ comments - ‘beating those schools in their respective presentations’. I trust the girls had a great time visiting the beach, walking in the shoes of those Sydney Uni business students and learning from industry leading professionals who gave up their time and resources to make the event happen. I would like to thank Agrifutures and startup business for this opportunity and Jess Taylor for giving up her time, helping with transport and supervision. I would also like to thank our local CWA branches for helping fund our Agrifuture’s program this year. Jessica WiseGood morning Mr Windred, teachers, students and visitors. I would like to welcome you to the captain speeches of 2019.Hi, my name is Jessica Wise, I am in year five and I am standing in front of you today to explain why I want a position as a 2020 school captain. I have attended Manilla Central School for six years so my whole schooling has been done here. I have achieved many things over those six years that I am very proud of. This includes state swimming, an education week award, achieving a spot in the 12’s representative netball team and also achieving the major prize in the Andy Griffiths writing competition. So as you can tell I’ve been quite busy. I also participate in extracurricular activities, this also includes the ANZAC Day March every year and also art with Mrs Dixon and band with Mr O’Neill. I always try my hardest to participate in everything that I can.As a year five student you must demonstrate positive behaviour, integrity, honesty and respect. Respect can go a long way, respect for self, others and the environment. I demonstrate these three things. I always display initiative and leadership and I will always have the ability to make decisions for myself. I listen and follow through with every instruction that I get given by teachers. Every time I wear our school uniform I wear it with pride, I am always happy to say I come from an amazing school full of amazing people.I’m running for school captain not because it looks fun, but because I want to help make changes and improvements to our school. I have seen what school captains are involved in and I am determined to be a part of it. I am willing to fulfil the job expectations as a captain and I won’t let you down.

Sekora DaleyGood morning Mr Windred, teachers, fellow students, family and friends. My name is Sekora Daley and I would love to be your school captain for 2020.I have been a student at Manilla Central School since kindergarten. I have represented the school in many sporting events, performed in CAPERS, school excursions, achieved a platinum award, and I try my hardest in class and love being with my friends. In this time at Manilla Central School I have become familiar with the school emblem’s motto “I begin, I strive, I achieve’.To me the role of school captain is more than a badge, popularity or a fancy title. It’s the privilege to have the honour and the chance to make a positive influence on the students, as well as the teachers. I believe I have all these qualities and if not, I am willing to learn them and grow in the process.I promise to dedicate myself, work hard and be the effective leader that you would be proud of in the school.I will uphold and obey all rules, assist teachers and students in any way possible to the best of my abilities and become the role model that you can look up to.I strongly believe that I’m respectful, a good listener, trustworthy and a good friend which all these qualities are very important in everyone’s life.

Thank you listening to my speech and remember I’m not perfect but I do believe that the position is perfect for me.

If elected as a school captain I will lead by example, be respectful and be there to help students, teachers and helpers. One thing I would like to change as school captain is make the school uniform the sports uniform all the time because it’s comfortable, looks smart and shows people we belong to Manilla Central School.I have been at Manilla Central School since kindy in 2014, I love this school and would be proud to represent this school as a captain in 2020.So Vote 1 - Jade Kesterton. Thanks for listening to me today.

Meaghan HawleyGood morning teachers, students, parents, caregivers and visitors, my name is Meaghan Hawley. I have attended Manilla Central School since kindergarten. During my time at Manilla Central I have made lots of friendships with my peers and other students in the school.I have participated in numerous things at Manilla Central School. I have been in the netball schools cup, the school hockey competition that was on Tuesday afternoons and a lot of other different sports. I have even participated in sports that I don’t normally play like tee-ball, soft ball and league tag. I may not be the best at all sports but I always give 100% in everything I do. I am in the primary band and I represent the school not only in sport but through other activities like capers and going to the ANZAC march in Manilla. I participate in extra school activities like choir and going to art club. I also play in the Manilla Central School band and sing the choir at the Community Christmas Carols each year.On Wednesdays I assist the canteen ladies with breakfast club. I help give out food and I help by taking all the dirty items into the canteen so they can be washed. I always wear the correct school uniform on the days that a certain uniform has to be worn. I do these things because I believe that a good leader leads by example. Some of the goals I would like to achieve whether I am a school captain or not are to be a good role model to all students. To work well with students and staff to make our school a safe and happy place, and to be a kind student. I will do my best to demonstrate the three school PBL expectations respect for self, others and the environment. If I am elected as a school captain for 2020 I will do my best to fulfil the job expectations and to be the best person I can be for all students. Thank you for listening.

Dakota McInerneyGood morning students, teachers, parents and care givers, my name is Dakota McInerney. Even though I only started here in July I have already been involved in many aspects of athletics and participated in school events, also camps. At these events I have always tried my best and pursed the school motto as well as displaying respect.I would like to be school captain because I would absolutely like to lead the whole school to be respectful to teachers and others. I would also like to represent Manilla Central School in the best way possible and put something back into the school which has given me so many opportunities. If I am elected, I would make a great school captain as I enjoy helping others and I will listen to all ideas and suggestions. I will always set a good example for other students both inside and outside the classroom. I like to try my best at anything and everything I do. I also enjoy contributing to the school any way possible. I understand I have to give up my time to make this commitment to the school and I am very happy to do that. Our school motto is: I begin, I strive, I achieve and Respect grows and flows. I believe as school captain I will be a good role model and leader for the younger students. I am a good learner, I am respectful, honest and I have a positive

Northern Schools Steer CompetitionRecently our MCS show team ventured to Glen Innes for the Northern Schools Steer Competition. There was approximately 270 students, 16 schools and 60 steers at the show. Our students participated in the Junior Judging and Parading and had a great time and learnt some new skills. Dylan Walker achieved a fantastic 3rd place in the senior division and Chalmonie collecting a 7th place. A fantastic effort against so many competing kids.

Overall our students and steers performed brilliantly. I’d like to thank those who made this possible, especially Richard Chaffey for donating his steer which weighed in at massive 624kgs. We are now awaiting the hoof competition results. Thanks again to the parents who helped along the way and Angus Faulks for helping with transport and supervision overnight.
