Introduction
The Directory is a listing of programs and services for Manitobans diagnosed with breast cancer. The information in this Directory, although not exhaustive, is accurate as of the date on the front cover.
We have included information about a wide range of resources, some of which may be particularly helpful in the early days of diagnosis and treatment. If you have questions about additional services, please contact your nurse or another member of your health care team at CancerCare Manitoba (throughout Manitoba), Winnipeg Health Region Breast Health Centre (Winnipeg), the CancerCare Manitoba Breast Cancer Centre of Hope (Winnipeg), South Central Cancer Resource (Morden), Health Resource Centre (Brandon) and the Community Cancer Resource and Support Program (Eriksdale).
You are not alone. Others have been down this path before you. There are many well-informed professionals and survivors ready to help in finding the information and support you need.
If there are any errors or ommissions, or changes in telephone numbers, please contact the Breast Health Centre directly at 204.235.3906 or toll free at 1.888.501.5219. Products and services listed in this booklet are for your reference and are not endorsed by the Winnipeg Health Region.

Bras and Protheses
Manitoba Breast Prosthesis Program
The Manitoba Breast Prosthesis Program offers eligible women across Manitoba a wide selection of prostheses and surgical bras, sized by experienced and certified fitters. To be eligible, a woman must have a valid Manitoba Health card and have had a mastectomy and/or surgical procedure resulting in a significant loss of breast tissue.
Did you know…• It is recommended that the surgery site has had time to
heal before a prosthesis is worn. Every woman is different and healing time varies from woman to woman. Talk to your surgeon, physician or nurse practitioner before wearing a bra and/or prosthesis.
• It is important to replace the weight of the removed breast by wearing a properly fitted bra and prosthesis. This provides balance for the shoulders and spine.
• Prostheses come in different styles, sizes and shapes. Some can be worn in a bras with a pocket while others can stick directly onto the skin.
What to do…1. Get a prescription for a prosthesis and a surgical bra from your
Manitoba surgeon, physician or nurse practitioner.2. Speak with your nurse or contact CancerCare Manitoba
