South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co Ltd has added key assets of the UK water and wastewater treatment engineering company Enpure to its water business portfolio.

Founded in the early 1970s, Enpure is a process engineering company with design and fabrication capabilities related to pre-treatment and water/wastewater treatment systems and plants. Enpure has core technologies and patents in dissolved air flotation (DAF) and dual media filtration (DMF). In 2011, Enpure had more than 250 project references, revenue of £55.6 million and around 160 employees.

With the acquisition, Doosan Heavy Industries &

Construction expects to improve its competitiveness in both the reverse osmosis and water and wastewater treatment businesses.

“The desalination industry is now expanding through the development of RO technologies,” said Seokwon Yun, CEO of Doosan’s Water Business Group. “With the acquisition of Enpure, Doosan has further strengthened the competitiveness of its RO technologies in addition to creating a platform for accelerated growth in the water/wastewater treatment market through engineering know-how based on the company’s long list of project references.”

Mann+Hummel has announced plans to acquire Bosch’s 50% stake in their joint venture Purolator Filters NA LLC.

Purolator, which makes filters for the automotive OE/OES and aftermarket, is based in Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA. The company had sales of US$240 million in 2012 and employs 1000 people.

Mann+Hummel and Bosch set up the joint venture in 2006 after buying the company from Arvin Meritor.

Mann+Hummel to take full ownership of Purolator JV

Maine Manufacturing LLC has bought the laboratory filter and membrane assets of GE’s Water and Process Technologies business.

The acquisition includes the Cameo brand of syringe filters, capsule and cut disc filters, transfer membranes, and flat sheet and roll stock microporous membranes. Maine Manufacturing will continue to make these products at the Westborough facility in Massachusetts, USA, which was previously operated by GE. The life science and diagnostics manufacturing firm has also acquired the polycarbonate and polyester track etched membranes

that were previously produced in Bryan, Texas.

GE sells lab filter and membrane business to Maine Manufacturing

PMFG Inc has won two separation equipment orders, together valued in excess of US$5 million.

The first order is for steam separators to be installed at a nuclear power plant in the US, with delivery expected in late calendar 2013. The steam separators, which will be manufactured at the PMFG plant in Denton, Texas, are replacement units for a BWR reactor as part of the plant’s relicencing process.

The second order is for production separators for a South American natural gas project, with delivery expected in late summer 2013. PMFG will

fabricate the equipment in the US.

PMFG CEO Peter Burlage said: “Opportunities to provide replacement steam separators both in the United States and globally in connection with relicencing of nuclear facilities represents a significant opportunity for the company. We believe nuclear power generation will continue to play a material role in the generation of electricity globally. We expect the demand for replacement units to rival or even exceed the demand for steam separators in emerging markets such as China over the foreseeable future.”
