Forward:

Dear User,

While I use Studio One 2 as my primary DAW but it lack's tools that I feel are essential to my work flow in the form of MIDI sequencing. I have other tools that I can Rewire into Studio One that make up for this deficiency however it would be more helpful to use the tools in Studio One to start with. Fortunately with the addition of Macros Studio One can be customized with a little Elbow grease.

What I've done is created a set of Macro's that will set up and open a blank Piano Roll as either a full 2 Bar 8 track Pattern building Lab or a 2 Bar, 4 Bar or 8 Bar single Pattern Labs and a Utility Macro to add Patterns to all of the Labs. With these patterns set up it is just a matter of dragging and dropping the instrument right on to the Pattern either before or after you play or input the Notes.

These Macro's are an update of my previous Macro's “Add MIDI Track Open Piano Roll” set and should be easier to use on their own now however I hope you can use all of them.

Thank's and let me know what you think at the Presonus Forum,

Charlie

Installation:

#1.Unzip content to a new folder or your desktop.

#2. Copy the Macro's from your new folder to your Presonus Macro folder located where your Songs, Sound sets and Preset are stored:

#3. Open Studio One and then open the Empty Song Template:

#4. Open Macro Bar Press the Action Button, Scroll down to “C.T.'s Pattern Builder Kit” and choose “MIDI Pattern Kit Full” after it's loaded it should look like this:

You can now go to work either loading Instrument's or adding Notes to the Piano Roll. Snap is set, Input Quantize is on, notes are Quantize to 1/16 notes and the loop is on. The piano roll is set to the first track, the tracks are named and the Start and End Markers are set to the Pattern length.

Of course you can change these to your liking as you wish.

Note: You can use the Utility Macro “MIDI Pattern Builder Add+1” to add another track and Pattern( this is explained at the end of this document).

Single Track Pattern Macro's:

You may choose to build only one Pattern to start with so I included a 2 Bar,4 Bar and 8 Bar single track Macro's.

Here is what the 2 Bar look's like:

Here is the 4 Bar:

Here is the 8 Bar:

It is set up and ready for your input. What I normally do is add the Instrument than start the transport and add the Note with my keyboard or mouse on the Piano Roll. It's up to you in how you want to use these Macro's.

The Utility Macro: I've Included a Utility Macro that can be use with set or as a stand alone Macro but before you use it you have to understand that it will use the length of the Loop points as it's guide and you must select the last channel physically for it to work properly, what I did was assign a Keyboard action to it but you can always open the macro Bar if that work's better.

Here is a short tutorial of what I set up:

#1. First open your Keyboard Shortcuts editor in Studio One menu Options:

(see Photo on next page)

Scroll down to the “Macro” action:

Choose”MIDI Pattern Builder Add+1”:

Assign a Keystroke you can remember and press Assign than OK and your done.

Using the Utility(IMPORTANT):

When ever you use this Macro it is important that you select a clip in the Clips pane for it to have the best results as shown:

Of course you are more than welcome to modify and upload these Macro's.

Enjoy.
