Diesel particle filter 3The d iesel particle filter system removespolluting soot particles out of the engine
exhaust gases. The system includes aself-cleaning function that operates
automatically whilst driving. The filter is
cleaned by burning the trapped sootparticles at a high temperature. There maybe an increase in fuel consumption,
exhaust smell, and en gine cooling fanopera tion 3 during the self-cleaningopera tion.
The se lf-cleaning function cannot operate
automatically during certain drivingsituations where the engine does not reach
its normal operating temperature. An example of this would be driving only
short distances in cold weather.
If the filter needs cleaning and recentdriving situa tions did not allow the function
to autom atically operate, then control
indica tor!will flash. If this occurs, thenyou may continue to drive the vehiclenormally. The vehicle will not be damaged
and does not require service.
The self-cleaning function will
automat ic ally operate whilst driving afterthe engine has reached its normal
operating te mperature. Controlindica tor!will continue to flash until theself-cleaning operation is complete. Thismay take up to 20 minutes of driving.
The time will be shorter at higher vehiclespeeds.
